A great day hiking to Larapinta Falls and the Stinson Plane wreckage. Quite a humbling experience knowing what took place here almost 90 years ago. The trail that follows the river is fairly straightforward, otherwise rock-hopping up the river is another option. I'm not sure how accurate distances are according to my Garmin watch and AllTrails, I'd like to know true distances.
I recorded:
6.55km from carpark to Larapinta Falls (1hr 48mins)
11.76km from Larapinta Falls to Stinson Wreck to carpark (3hrs 22mins)
Total: 18.31km (5hrs 10mins).

Be careful going after the floods. Go early. Hard to find the path usually. Even harder as most of it destroyed. Fast flowing water. Waterfall is amazing after the rain.

Awesome walk! Can either use the track which runs along side the creek, or a if you feel more confident you can rock hop and use the trees and follow the river up!

We got there about 1200. I'm not fit but I did the hike with my 14yr old son. A beautiful hike with one easy creek crossing. The track was easy to follow, although we lost out way but found the "tape" again, keep the creek on your left heading up. Take enough fluids, sunscreen, and insect repellent. A few snacks help. We took our time with a few breaks. Very picturesque in places. An amazing hike, we were back at 4pm. Well worth it. Drive carefully on the narrow road up to Christmas creek. You'll also meet some amazing like minded people. We'll be back.

Was a great walk. Challenging in sections... Thought we got lost a couple of times but found track again...

A good hike starting from the end of Christmas Creek Road and it follows the creek most of the way with less chance of getting lost . Lovely swimming spots too. No marked walking tracks along the route .

This being a memorial site for Westray as he attempted to traverse the harsh environment to try and find help after the Stinson plane crashed during a storm in the 1930's unfortunately only to meet his death.
There were Two survivors from the plane crash who had to survive under harsh conditions. I would suggest you watch a movie ... Stinson which is based on this event along with the man who located the plane wreck by the name of Bernard O'Rielly a true bushman and hero.

Did Larapinta Falls, the "track" is really sketchy asfter Westray's. But over all it was amazing

Looks like the place has been vandalised which is real shame.

Very nice place to walk to as part of the Stinson Point Lookout Hike.

A nice 3 or so hour walk into the forest with many swimming holes along the way in Christmas Creek if you have thick enough skin to cope with the cold water. The grave site is in pretty good condition but it doesn't have any info to explain who Westray was or how he got there. In case you didn't know, which I didn't at the time, he was a survivor of the stinson plane crash nearby and left to find help. Regrettably he was found dead beside the creek near this site presumed to have fallen down a waterfall.

We are a couple aged 62 and 56,not overweight and faily fit.We found this walk quite demanding .Put out of mind any similarity to the walks at Binna Burra and O’Reillys, this is bare nature.Count on losing the track and getting lost at least twice on the way there, however it is no drama as the track hugs the creek fairly closely so turn back towards the sound of the creek. However such detours will add to the time ,in our case by about half an hour.We took 2 hours ten minutes there, one hour thirty five minutes back. Some say to allow three hours there and back. This would only be possible if you knew the track and were very fit in our view.
There are some magic views of waterfalls and rock pools and of course the solitary grave in the shadows of the forest ,causing us to reflect on the stirring story of the Stinson ,the heroism, and the tragedy.

Got a big wrap as a good walk from a big hiker, but I found this walk slightly disappointing. Lots of lantana near the start and then very closed in walking in thick rainforest with little to see. Gravestone has a long inscription that is hard to read. You can continue by rock hopping in the creek up to waterfall.
