A difficult but rewarding walk, this is one of the best walks in NSW, and the country.
You will get a great workout across a variety of terrains on this walk. This track caters more toward active people and you should set aside a full day.
Doing the loop, you will start on mostly flat land before ascending to the lookout.
Arrive early in the morning and you will likely see kangaroos along the start of the track and in the carpark. If you are lucky you may see wedge tail eagles around the summit of mount Exmouth. Keep an eye out for snakes.
There is plenty of parking available and the fee is payable at the visitors centre unless you have a National Parks pass. If you arrive before the visitors centre is open, they will leave a reminder on your windscreen to pay upon completing the walk.
This track is not suitable for strollers/prams and is not suitable for bicycles.
be sure to take more water than you think you need, this is a strenuous walk especially on a summers day.

Great walk, 4.5 kms steep walk then over 1000 steps. Well maintained by council. We started 6.30 from the parking and were back by 11.30am.

A top ten walk in Oz. A must do! It's being upgraded at great expense which makes the hike easier for less fit peeps.
Whatcha out for snakes in the heat of day near creek crossings especially in the western spire valley

This was a fantastic walk. You have to be reasonably fit because there's lots of steps and the rocky section at the top is steep. And don't go if you have a fear of heights 😜 All that being said, the views are incredible and well worth the climb. There is a toilet half way up and a good car park, with toilet, at the start of the climb. Give yourself 6 hours to do it, but might be less if you're fit and walk fast.

The walk to the Grand High Tops is a moderate climb with most of the way on a well formed or sealed path. The last bit is a bit steep and rocky but very manageable. If you have time, take a detour to Bluff Mountain, it's the tallest peak in the Warrumbungles, a bit more strenuous but we'll worth the climb.

An absolute gem of a hike! This is the reason we came to visit Coonabarabran. Unfortunately, it was rainy/misty on the day when we came to hike, which diminished our views a bit, but the hike was fantastic.

We did the 12.5km circuit along with our 7-year-old daughter. It was the perfect mix (for us) of challenging (scrambling over rocks and walking up stairs) and relaxing (ample flat walkways with kangaroos and wildlife).

Ticked this off our bucket list! But we might have to do it again when sunny :)

Awesome hike with amazing views. I recommend doing the round circuit rather than going up and back the same way. The circuit is about 14 km. Don’t add on the Gould loop unless you want an extra 2.5 km though the view at Matcha Tor is nice.

I’m not a hiker but I LOVED this hike. The views up the top are amazing and it’s a great place to have a mid-walk picnic. I’m not fit at all (27f) but found this walk very doable (had to stop a lot to take a break though). I wouldn’t recommend this walk if you have injuries as a large portion of the walk is man-made or natural stairs and the last 1% is steep and you have to climb the rock face.

There also aren’t too many people on the hike which is nice. If you’re lucky too you might spot some goats :)

This remains one of my favourite walks. Have just done it for the second time in less than a year. So be careful on the way down due to the loose rocks and pebbles on the tracks. The official website recommends 5-6 hours, but we managed to do it quite comfortably in 4 hours (including a considerable break at the summit for lunch and to take in the panoramic views). Will be back!

Spectacular!
If you've got bad knees, this may not be the walk for you. Also, doing the full Spirey creek loop may be too much for some older folk as all those stairs and climbing up may stretch things. (someone got into trouble when we were there, wasn't feeling good due to the climb but continued anyway and then needed assistance).
The walk itself has spectacular scenery, probably some of the best in Australia, so pack plenty of water, refreshments and lunch. Take a torch just in case you take a wrong turn and are out longer than you planned. Some of the sign posting isn't clear enough.
Don't get going too late if you are doing the Spirey Creek loop as you could end up walking in the dark.
The Spirely Creek West section is a lot more gentle if you want to spare your knees on the way up.

Quite a challenge but totally worth the effort of doing it. Going under the breadknife rock was like walking beside an ancient Great Wall, nature windows here and there, where you can see through, and saw wild goats up the mountains- how amazing!

Right up there as one of the best walks I’ve ever done. Wonderful unique sights. A strenuous walk. Take enough water and food. There is drinking water near the breadknife. Also I found it really helpful to be able to see exactly where I was and the location of lookouts and water by using the maps.me app on the iPhone. Free app and offline maps with a focus on walking tracks.

This is an experience. The Warrumbungles National Park is one of the best areas to explore in NSW.

I recommend starting the hike at Pincham Car Park and go to the Grand High Tops Summit via the Grand Stair Case and The Bread Knife. After you've soaked in the amazing views, I'd suggest a return to Pincham Carpark via Dadga Saddle. For an extra special treat, see if you can do the 6km hike to the Grand High Tops to watch the sunrise. It's gorgeous.

Amazing hike! Don't turn back before you get to the High Tops 360 degree views at the top of the rock or you will miss the best bit!

Excellent walk on very well maintained track. The track does get rougher towards the top. Make sure you bring water, as there is no reliable water on the track!

Beautiful hike in one of the most beautiful Nationalparks in New South Wales. You hike throug the forest and climb a set of stairs up next to the bread knife. The top witch you can reach in about 1.5 hours depending on your fitness offers amazing views of the NP. Since it can get very hot in the summer months it is recommended to do this hike quite early in the day. This whole National Park is an insider's tip, since it is quite off the ordinary tourist routes but quite famous to lokals. So if you want to get off the tourist swarmed routes on the coast, it might very well be worth the couple hundred k of detour.

One of the best hikes we have done in Australia! Absolutely stunning. Steep in parts but not overly technical as long as your are happy to scramble on some rocks.

Currently travelling around Australia in our VW van.

Great track which is well maintained. Track itself is not hard but moderate to steep climbs. Also mostly covered but bring lots of water.

Very long walk, took 5.5h. Take the way that is signposted, don't do the reverse: rocks are easier or climb uphill than stairs. The view from the top is gorgeous.

This is a fantastic walk.
It starts off very gently but after a kilometre or so the climbing begins, and doesn't ease off till you reach the top.
The views are incredible, and it's wonderful sitting at Grand High Tops, having a bite to eat and taking in the panorama. The Breadknife is an amazing rock feature that you walk around and also look down on from the top.
One of the best walks!
Remember to take sufficient water.
