Great vista from high up on top of the range. A geographical marvel - this area was formed by volcanic eruptions, creating the many pools some dry, some filled with water.

Also of historical significance as this is around here where William Buckley, the convict who escaped lived with the Wathaurong indigenous tribe for 32 years .

Easy drive up to the summit, which was great as I had a little one with me - there were a few steps to get to the peak viewing platform but not many (less then 50 steps). Recommended as a stopover if you have the time

This has amazing views of the surrounding scenery - lakes and farms. The craters look absolutely incredible! Perfect spot to watch the clouds pass by, see the sunset or drink a hot cup of tea with your sweetheart. Go there now!

Incredible views from this old volcanic vent. This and several other vents have erupted on and off right up to 4000yrs ago. They flooded the area with basalt covering the old gold bearing river valleys. They blocked rivers, forming the huge lakes in the area. Today, there is a free car park with fab views on top of the Red Rock vent. Best time to visit is the evening with the sun setting, which picks out the structural features and creates reflections off the waters.

This geological reserve is a humbling site for contemplation. So much time. Hopefully when you visit you will be the only one, gazing across the volcanic plains 360 degrees. The weak minded often leave rubbish at the top. Pick it up and put it in the bins at the bottom picnic ground. Go well good souls.

Amazing place, on so many levels..
A 360 degree view of the district, on a volcanic scoria hill.

The view is fantastic, and you can see just how big the lakes are, and the view is just amazing.

Access: drive west out of Colac and follow the signs. A tip.. dont fang it... most of the roads are 100, but there are a great number of 80 and 60 zones.

Once you make the turn off, the road is single lane tar all the way, with a sealed parking area.

For the adventurous, there is a 25m set of steps to the summit.

Facilities: no toilets or water.
Wheelchair access to the carpark.

Hazard: snake hazard exists.
Beware of high fire danger days, as the grass is right to the edge of the carpark and the summit.

Less known tourist location but you can visit this easily on your way back from twelve apostles to Melbourne. The volcanic lakes make beautiful landscapes . Great views. Parking is available and it’s a small hike to explore around.

This is a wonderful nature site to visit!
Red Rock has the perfect lookout to view the enormous volcanic craters in the ground. There are information boards highlighting the significance of the area and information about the eruptions.
Very easy to get to and only approximately 15 minutes from Colac.

With a sense of how old this planet is, it's hard to imagine the forces at work to create the landscape that lie in front of you at this lookout.
We can only imagine the volcanic rock that is under foot now covered in dirt and grass.
There are a couple of lookout points around so be sure to check out the other places nearby.

Absolutely stunning 360 degree panarama of the most beautiful countryside. Not to be missed if you are anywhere in the vicinity on your travels.

Volcanic mounds in middle of nowhere. Most people skip them and drive straight to Port Campbell, but it is a good stop to have a big view of large vistas around you. Though it is a little off the main highway.
