Planning a Surprise wedding was a lot more difficult than I thought it would be, but for the help of Shelley and Brides & Beauty! She was able to help me keep the surprise from my 2 best friends and my mother and kept me calm. Shelley from Brides & Beauty was an absolute dream!

So.. I had my first meeting with Shelley when she did cosmetic tattooing for me which was a huge success.. then when meeting her I also found out that her talents expand to hair and makeup, I got her onto my best friends wedding. I was in the bridal party and we all loved her makeup. My closest friend getting married - lots of tears.. etc.. but the makeup held up till the wee hours of the night. Shelley is now my go to beautician for makeup and tattooing. You cannot get any better. I am also a makeup artist myself but did not to work myself on that special day. She looked after all of us and had a lot of fun getting ready with her. Cant recommend enough!!!!!

Such lovely attention to detail.

I was very happy with the make up Shelley did, but was not pleased with her demeanour while doing it or her communication in the lead up. I also don't think the make up lasted that well throughout the day, granted it was difficult conditions as it was a hot, humid and rainy day. In our initial correspondence Shelley said that she would do airbrush makeup which my understanding is that it lasts longer, however she never mentioned that again. To be fair, I didn't ask (honestly because I wasn't sure what the difference was until someone was talking to me about it the other day), but I still think it's weird to offer a product and then deliver something different.

Shelley had some reasons for her poor communication and I believe I cut her a fair amount of slack, but found it continually frustrating. When I booked my trial with her I emailed her a question a couple of days beforehand, only to find out that she hadn't booked the hair stylist for the trial so she cancelled and rescheduled me. I didn't realise that they were separate trials and Shelley never clarified that to me when organising it originally- as the professional in this situation I would have thought she would have. Not a big deal, but a bit irritating.

When we did reschedule the trial I received a text in the morning asking if I could arrive half an hour earlier. I didn't mind and so did so, only to receive a frantic call that she was running late which left me waiting on the side of the road for her to arrive. Shelley appeared flustered and rushed after coming from an off site job, and I think perhaps she should have scheduled herself some buffer time between appointments so as to appear calmer and more professional. She also spent quite a bit of time on her phone during the trial which I thought was odd, but I was really pleased with the make up she did and thought that as this was just the trial she would surely be more attentive/less distracted for my wedding day.

When confirming with Shelley, I notified her that the time I needed to be ready by on my wedding day had changed and was now earlier and she altered her start time accordingly. She did not, however, communicate this change of time with the hair stylist she had organised, nor did she tell the hair stylist what the address was to get ready at. This meant that the hair stylist messaged me the night before my wedding in order to ask the address and happened to mention a much later time to arrive than I expected. I was very fortunate that the hair stylist was accomodating of this last minute change of time, however I found this miscommunication about timing unnecessarily stressful. As Shelley was the one organising the hair stylist I feel that it is her responsibility to notify the hair stylist of changes to the booking. Failing that, she should have told me that I needed to let her know. Another frustrating miscommunication.

While Shelley was doing everyone's makeup she spent a lot of the time checking her phone and especially talking loudly on it. She told a client that she was already booked on a day but she would take their booking anyway, and then spent the rest of the time trying to find someone who would cover her now cancelled original booking for her, among other things. I don't recall her making any conversation with my bridesmaids, mother or myself that wasn't about her. Overall, she was quite a disruptive presence to be in the room. Shelley didn't seem focussed on the job at hand and was more focussed on her phone and booking other jobs. I never felt like we were the priority and I do think that on the morning of my wedding, for the few hours that she was with us, that Shelley could have prioritised us and the task at hand.

Let me say once again that I was pleased with the makeup she did and the speed with which she did it. She is clearly a very experienced makeup artist. However in my case her professional communication and demeanour was lacking and extremely disappointing. I always felt as though she was juggling several things and that I was not the priority.
