Such lovely and welcoming staff and guests! Great and cosy atmosphere with an awesome kitchen, updated and clean facilities, and a real cool lounge area. Super chuffed how affordable it was to stay (with $4 a night parking in a secure area) yet its really good location with St Kilda Esplanade only a 15 minute walk or so and a tram stop right in front for easy access into the city. Became quite comfortable especially for having only stayed a few nights, would definitely recommend and return!

A fantastic place to stay. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The location is amazing as it's not far to the beach and only 1 short tram ride in to the city centre. The room was clean and very comfortable. Having tea and coffee facilities in the room was very appreciated.

Fun hostel with really great staff! All around great vibe - not too quiet but not too crazy. We stayed here a few times over a couple months, and each time was consistently good. The kitchen is big and regularly cleaned. They sell alcohol in the main lounge, but it’s not a bar. They also have activities every night (trivia with free drink prizes, karaoke, bar hopping, etc). They also have a secure parking lot for $4 a night. Best part is that they’re very sustainable and eco-friendly! Apparently they’re a carbon neutral hostel! Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for budget accommodation in Melbourne.

Great place to stay in this area! The staff are incredibly kind, positive, and helpful. Easy walk to many different shops, restaurants, and other things one may need while traveling (post office, groceries)
Nightly events organized by staff allows you to be involved and meet others if you so choose. Rooms are clean, space throughout had good energy, and easy Uber pick up spot out front.

One of the best hostels I have ever stayed in. Most people who are staying here are on a working holiday visa and are all excited to meet new people. Everyone has a story to share and can help you find work. The staff is super friendly. I recommend staying for 1 week at a time as you get a discount coupon and a slightly cheaper rate. Anyone coming to Melbourne on a working holdiay visa, this is the place you want to be. And its right near a tonne of fun bars and pubs too.

I've only been there for 2 nights but from what I've seen it is a great hostel! Rooms are clean, bathrooms are huge and well equipped, the free breakfast is alright (just get up early to grab a couple slices of toast and some cereals) and the kitchen offers enough space for everyone. The free WiFi wasn't too fast and disconnected when changing floors (might have been my phone) but at least it's free and you can top up really cheaply!

Of course you don't have that familiar family feeling like you have it in smaller hostels but there's always people to do different activities with, may it be playing soccer in the park, having a nice chat with other travellers or simply enjoying one of the hundreds of movies in the TV room.

All in all I really enjoyed my short stay and will definitely go back if I come to Melbourne again.

This is the best hostel I experienced for sure. The staff are amazing and become just friends to you. It's a great place to meet people. It's very social but is not a party hostel which for me was perfect. It is clean, offers plenty of activities and is environmentally friendly which is a big plus. Locationwise is also amazing, there is a Skybus from the airport that will drop you right outside, short walk to beach and shops and has a tram stop to the city literally over the road. More importantly it's a home away from home. Over my 3 years in Australia I probably spent nearly a year there on and off. I made friends for life (including staff) and really couldn't recommend a better place in Melbourne.

This is by far the best hostel I have stayed at, and I've devoured a few hostels. I stayed here for about 5 months back in 14/15 and it was awesome, the rooms and kitchen are clean and nice and the staff is helpful as well. The main thing that I liked about this hostel is the public room, which is quite large making it fairly easy to communicate with fellow backpackers. If you're looking for a chilled out hostel with a lot going on, this is definitely the place! 5/7 would recommend.

I stayed with my teenage daughter for her to compete in a State swim carnival. On arrival I thought we might have made a mistake and there would be a lot of noise at night. I was so wrong! We didn't hear a peep. The room was nicely appointed with a 'new' feel. The shower was fabulous! The bed was very comfortable. The shared kitchen is very well appointed. Whilst it was busy with young people from all over the world, they were a lot of fun. Carparking behind the secure gate was very inexpensive and I was very much surprised how much we enjoyed out stay. We often travel to Melb for swim competitions and will stay with Habitat HQ from now on. We've even passed on this little gem to swim friends!

One of the best hostels so far! I stayed in habitat for 7 weeks. I slept in different rooms and the beds were always comfortable. All positive:
- clean
- big kitchen
- good vibe
- free wifi
- near to public transport
- close to the supermarket, city and beach.
I definitely recommend this place!

Clean washrooms, spacious rooms with ample outlets, and large common area. Close to the heart of St. Kilda and other hostels, superb location. Easy to meet people. My favourite hostel thus far. Would come back and stay again if I am in Melbourne. Thanks!

First time I go to Melbourne, first time I stayed in a hostel and it was at the best. So I think anywhere I stay after this can't compare to HQ. I was really shocked at everything, everything was so convenient, useful, easy to use, the staff really love to serve. The facilities were to many that I just couldn't make use of them all. I intend to bring others back in the future to show them what we can learn from such a great hostel.

Great staff/available 24hrs, various activities, professional backpacker environment, very clean. Parking - don't be cheap and get a ticket - just park on site.

One thing turned into another and I ended up staying at this hostel for a little over 4 months. Things might be a little different during the summer peak season, but I would highly recommend this place based on my April - August stay.

This hostel is just amazing. Very good for socializing, chilling or party.
Everything is very clean and the staff is just super friendly. They help you out with whatever is needed.
Especially Ray and Juan are the nicest receptionist I ever meet!!!

This is one of the best australian hostel i ve stayed in.

The staff is friendly, smiling and chill (in a stressfree-get-things-done-problem-solving kind of way) and they have someone at reception 24h a day! and yes, even at 2 am they were super nice, relaxed and helpful. Special "hi" to James, Simone and Itai!

The place is spacious and welcoming. Original, fun and tasteful decorations. There are guitars, a piano and a fire place in the living room(!). Lots of space to meet and gather but there are also more peaceful corners like the tv room and the terrasse.

Facilities: bathroom VERY CLEAN and again, spacious + plenty of them. Awesome showers with pressure and plenty of hot water. Didnt use the kitchen much but it looked well kept.

Location: very good. Near tram station.

Rooms: clean, not cold in winter. Good beds (comfy and not squeaking). Storage boxes under the beds.

Parking: i payed the extra 4$ for the hostel parking and it was worth it. Need to buzz to enter so it felt secure.

Activities: something s happening everynight if you feel social !
(I needed rest so i asked for a peaceful room and i couldnt hear the downstairs noise:))

What else..
-Lockers are available in the reception area
-Waschine machine and dryer working fine!
- muffins are a few food are sold are reception
- drove there from the GOC and it was quite straight forward

I am currently staying here and is by far a GREAT hostel!
Everything here is well done. The service is excellent and the staff and people are friendly. All in all a good hostel to be in. I hope that the people here read this review. I have been in many hostels and this is by far one of the best.
Keep up the good work! :)

The hostel itself is clean, looks more like a hostel than any other hotels we've been in so far which is refreshing compared to the unorganised, small places you usually find.

Staff were really friendly and welcoming which again is nice. Bathrooms and kitchen/dining areas are big and there's always plenty of room.

TV room is very small though so don't expect to find a seat! Vending machines are extortionate but that's the same for most place just go and buy your own stuff from Aldi across the road.

Perfect location for public transport and some really nice food places nearby.

Our room was a massive let down compared to the rest of the hostel. Firstly it smelt really bad but that's probably because of the other people in the room, dirty towels left out and the window constantly closed, I had to get my own airfreshner.

The beds were also ridiculously loud and squeaky! Every single one in the room you can literally hear it when people in other beds move the tiniest bit. It started off funny and we made some jokes about it with room mates but then it became really annoying.

Would stay again but would definitely request a different room and I wouldn't pay anymore than the low season price that we did.

Very friendly staff and clean rooms. The location is not the best, but regarding the price and the tram stop right outside the door it didn't bother much. Car Parking available in the secured lot for 4$/day (good deal).
WiFi was the only downer...

Great hostel with friendly staff!
Especially love the 3 persoons rooms (if you're working) and the garden is lovely in the summer :)
They have a pool table, good and clean showers, an on site bar and lots of activities going on.

Very cute hostel with a super interesting vibe! It is one of the best hostels if stayed during my travels through Australia. Itbis very clean, has a big kitchen with a lot of fridge storage room, fast wifi, a very artistic coomon area and hallway. They even provide music instruments, a nice inside launche with a hugh tv. Also there are many places to sit outside and it is located very central in St. Kilda. I felt very comfortable, so I recommend this for everyone who wants to have a nice time there and maybe wants to meet new people, too!
