Would've given minus 5 stars if I could.

I wanted to revamp my backyard with artificial turf, and agreed with him on the price of $8,300 for buying the artificial grass(the better quality ones in Bunnings are about $7,000), but the quality of the finished product does not reflect the high cost at all. It looked fine at first, but started to fall apart just 1 year later. Bald patches, exposed seams and uneven sections.

I’ve been trying to contact him for repairs, but he said it’s already past the 1 year warranty, even though the one I paid for $8,300 should have a 7-year warranty. It was only then I realized that I’ve been scammed, and the turf wasn’t the one I intended to buy. He probably spent less than $3,000 to buy poorer quality turf, trying to pass it off as quality ones.

Is this how their business works? Agree on a product and later switch it out for a cheaper one?

I paid $12,000 in total, thinking it would mean no more mowing, but I may as well have hired professional mowers for 10 years!

For those who are interested in hiring him, I strongly suggest you have a written contract laying out everything down to the smallest detail (costs, prices, materials, etc.) up front, so he doesn’t take shortcuts or use fraudulent behaviours later. Don’t just tell him or rely on what he says, make sure it’s set in writing. Trust me, you’ll save yourself from a load of trouble later on, as I found out the hard way.
