Came here because I heard the tonkatsu was good, but also ordered the hai nan chicken because I am a sucker for it. We arrived and had to our names down to wait for a table. It not an overly big restaurant/cafe but has a decent amount of tables. Very nice vibes inside the restaurant.

The tonkatsu was very nice. The meat was very tender. I think they could improve the breading a bit more but overall a pretty good tonkatsu for Sydney. I had the upgrade loin cut of tonkatsu. The hai nan chicken was not your standard typical hai nan rice set. Came with ginger shallot sauce on top and the light grilling on the top of the chicken adds a different type of flavour to the dish.

Desserts were not bad. The matcha tiramisu was as expected. I liked it but the sesame warabimochi was pretty nice. It's not my go to dessert but it had song pretty nice flavour especially from that brown powder on the top.

Overall pretty good restaurant service was neither quick nor slow but acceptable. Parking on street is available. Definitely come back here to try the other dishes.

One of my favourite Japanese places in Sydney. It is a small menu but all dishes and drinks are made really well. I have never left this place disappointed. I would recommend trying the Wagyu, Tonkatsu or Hainan chicken and the desserts.

Lovely space and staff. Came for lunch. Had the hainan chicken bowl. Subtle flavours, nice and fresh and light with succulent perfectly seasoned chicken. I didn’t try the tea or desserts but they seem very popular. No it’s not cheap, $24 for essentially chicken and rice, but the food is high quality and you can see the chefs crafting each bowl of food with care and precision. Will have to come back and try the other dishes.

about $30-$40 per person, but quite worth it for the calming atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious food.

Limited menu (just 4 bowls) but every single bowl was incredible. They were unique, attention to detail and beautifully presented, in fact the whole set up was simple yet quaint with the use of timber and neutral tone. 🙂

They have the match your tea with bowl approach which you can order the matching tea per recommendation on the menu, similar concept to matching wine. 🙂

We ordered all four bowls and two desserts. Everything was so delicious. I loved my Wagyu Bowl, it consisted of thinly sliced perfectly slow cooked fatty wagyu on the bed of al dente rice, topped with a free range onsen egg. It was so beautifully presented like a flower. The onion sauce on the side had the right amount of sweetness, saltiness & umami. 😋

Hainan Chicken was a fusion dish among the rest. The poached chicken was spot on, it was tender and juicy and with a non traditional twist, the skin was blowtorched allowing to get some extra charred flavour. So clever and innovative. 🤩

The crispy and crunchy Tonkatsu was so morish, the thick cut pork fillet had the perfect amount of fattiness. 🙂 Unagi Hitsumabushi aka Unagi Don was a fun bowl to eat. There was the silky tornado omelette topped with shaved halloumi, beneath lied the succulent, juicy grilled eel mixed with flavoured rice. To mellow down the flavours a pot of hojicha dashi was ready for you to pour it in. 🙂

Ended our lunch with two great desserts. Matcha Sakura Tiramisu had a lovely airy and light matcha cream, layered in between chiffon sponge. I couldn’t taste much sakura in there as the matcha already had a strong flavour. 😏 Warabimochi was soft and slippery with a hint of sweetness from the whipped cream & syrup. It would be a great summer dessert. 🙂

Love the attention to the detail menu. The interiors of the restaurant are cozy and elegant. We had a special of the day Tonkatsu, and Wagyu. Perfection (muah). Will definitely come back for Hainan chicken and unagi next time.

The matcha tiramisu is quite nice! We love the presentation. It looks really nice in the wooden box.
We ordered wagyu bowl and we added shredded truffles for the topping because we're greedy. We have to add few more bucks $$ for that, but to be honest it doesn't make much difference for the flavor. Idk maybe just my tounge.
Besides wagyu bowl, we ordered tonkatsu bowl as well. They were okay.
But overall, nice experience.

Tonkatsu is really good here! It is quite pricey where they ask you to spend at least $30 per person, but a nice place to have a treat every one in a while.

Amazing rice bowls here. Great hospitality and service. $30 min spend per person on the weekends.

We tried the wagyu rice bowl ($25) and the unagi hitsumabushi ($29) with matching tea. The wagyu was sliced really thinly and tender. It was the sauce for me that elevated the dish, paired with the garlic butter rice, just creates a really well balanced and umami dish. Perfected really well even with the temperature of the rice where it wouldn’t further cook the meat.

Though the unagi wasn’t the star here, it was still a great dish nonetheless. Adding the dashi mid way through gave it a different texture, more roasted and fishy flavour almost like a whole different dish.

Carefully curated menu and very nice homey Japanese restaurant located in Redfern. The moment we enter the restaurant, we are greeted by very welcoming people and even the chefs are the one serving the food on your table. This is Japanese hospitality at it’s best! Food is absolutely delicious, will definitely come back and bring my friends in!

a bit pricey
but worth it !
the rice just done it right, good taste and presentation as well.
a very balance concept of serving authentic Japanese menu with recommendation of pairing teas ;)

menu doesn’t have many choices I guess they wanna keep it in good quality which is right !!! I like this !

One thing I needa criticize was the booking, I made a booking online, but when we arrived there they seems didn’t know how to put customers on right seating, I don’t mind sitting at the bar table but I felt like not been taken care.
I think they should learn how to put hospitality on their list too

I've been waiting to go here for 4 years and I was everything I imagined. I arrived 10mins before dinner opening and it was already gathering people. The best is hands down the matcha tiramisu, I ate way more than my half. Presentation is beautiful with very reasonable pricing

I was initially very disappointed with my experience. After getting settled, the staff made us move to another spot, and they seemed indifferent to the inconvenience this caused. However, they later acknowledged the issue and made efforts to make up for it, which was pleasantly surprising.
