Excellent venue, ran entirely by volunteers. The people here are great and the atmosphere tends to be really positive and tends to be positive and upbeat.

As a performer this venue is great because there is both a backroom and a separate upstairs are for bands, the upstairs area has a microwave and a jug for making tea and coffee, a toilet, some couches and a bunch of power points and room to store your stuff.

Great atmosphere in an artist run venue. Feels like someone's place, more than a venue, but really professionally setup. Will definitely go back. Small enough to be intimate, but large enough to have a great sound for live shows.

Such a wonderful venue with a BRILLIANT concept behind it! It was a nice comfortable venue (even had a couple of couches around the space) with a bar (can't comment on that as I was not yet 18 when I went) I'm looking forward to trying to attend more gigs here! It's easily accessible with parking on surrounding side streets and it being within a short walking distance of both train stations and bus stops.

Excellent LGBTQI-friendly venue that hosts awesome events! Great performance space, and a nice quiet sit down area upstairs if things get too loud. Drinks are fairly standard price, and staff are hard-working and lovely.

Great space and local community space supported and run by volunteers. We really enjoyed the magic show from the V-Club and would be happy to support any future shows you do/help in anyway?! The kids loved it and it was so unique in it's offering - Sydney should have more spaces like this!

great venue with nice atmosphere. bar is cash only. all staff are volunteers so clean up after yourselves!
the aircon works really well. i was stood under a vent(?) and was actually quite chilly. really refreshing as usually venues, especially those on the smaller side, are sweaty af.

Great venue! Good size, cool atmosphere. Layout is really cool like an old theater style with antique chairs, couches, and lots of red colour ❤

A lovingly created community space that holds events that wow and amaze. People who may at times experience prejudice when out and about have not only a safe space at the Rat but a place where they can be celebrated and encouraged to be even more amazing. And, they serve tea at the bar. That last fact alone is worth 5 stars for this non-drinker, but really, I think the Rat is incredibly special. Highly recommended!

The best venue. A safe space for the queer community and always busting with diverse and incredible events. The best parties and shows that I've been to in Sydney have all been at this venue!

Small, independently run theatre in the heart of Marrickville. Great for small, independent productions. has little seating, but very comfortable couches and a bar with reasonably priced drinks for a theatre of it's size
