Slate Restaurant

Came in December '22 with a different chef....went again tonight. I wouldn't say it's a significant change because the first time was so lovely. We were greeted by a very friendly wait staff and taken to our table with glee even though we were running late (give them a heads up).
Instead of going to the feed me menu we decided to go our own way and select À la carte.
I personally had the oysters (absolute blast of flavours), the Carpaccio I shared with my partner (which I'd order again....and again) and then the duck for dinner (beautifully cooked - although could have fallen off the bone better).
Anytime we come up to Clare this will be a must. Looking forward to visiting Pikes tomorrow

Our table on the timber decking blended effortlessly into its surrounds as our uninterrupted view of the vineyards was a constant reminder of why we drove to Clare in the first place.

The menu options were plentiful, so our only choice was to order many and attempt to share hahaha

Zucchini Flowers w/ Prawn Mousse, Braised Octopus w/ Squid Ink, Pan Seard Mulloway, Pork Jowl and Duck Fat Potatoes were just some of the plates we thoroughly enjoyed.

One thing that stood out for us, was the attention given to Gluten Free options.
As a Coeliac my wife quite often misses out on simple pleasures like bread but not at Slate. The house made GF bread was incredible, so much so we asked if they would sell a loaf.

Special shout out to our waitress Monique. Her bubbly personality, infectious laugh and passion for people only added to what was already a wonderful day.

Everything was utterly delicious and beautifully cooked. Setting lovely, waiters friendly, wine very affordable . Such a delight and so much nicer than our meal yesterday at The Watervale Hotel.

Awesome from start to finish. Beautifully designed building and striking art work to boot. The degustation was fantastic and the views from the terrace just mesmerising. To top it off the service from the girl who served us was amazing. I can't remember her name but she is studying to be a vet 😊 great work Pikes team 👏

I enjoyed a delightful slow lunch over 2 hours with my partner. We thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, service and high quality food on offer. Of particular enjoyment was the use of native ingredients. Pairings such as saltbush with Kangaroo were simply divine. Make sure you take the time to enjoy your experience and savour some excellent wine before and during your meal.

Recommend Slate restaurant, service was good, Pikes GSM wine went really well with the steak. The steak is one of the best we've had (all 4 of us had the steak - and all agreed), very tasty, and the sides were lovely, then the chef came and had a chat to us. Well done Slate Restaurant.

I had the best food in Australia ever. The staff were very friendly and made great recommendations. The chef also was super friendly so absolutely we will come back here again!!

Absolutely incredible, we had sourdough and olives, celeriac and squid, cabbage and sirloin, and the passion fruit tart and affogato. Couldn’t fault it, the dessert was possibly the best I’ve ever had. Amazing wines and service too. Thank you so much!

I went for dinner and it was incredible, every dish was a winner. I can't recommend it enough. The wine pairings were some of the best matches I have ever had & should be considered a must!

Incredible menu with each dish capturing the best of Clare Valley produce. The smoked and charred octopus dish was amazing. The slow cooked beef ribs with pickled mushroom and crispy kale was also outstanding. Would definitely recommend!

Absolutely superb food, wines and service at this gem of a restaurant, perfectly situated in the heart of the Clare Valley. Recommend highly for a special occasion, night out, or client function. We will be back, for sure, thanks!

Love this place. The venison and lamb were both very delicious, as well as the bread and broccolini.

We overheard someone recommending Pikes winery and Skate restaurant and we’re so glad we eavesdropped 😁The food was stunning - compliments to the chef -and our wine was at no charge as we waited for about 15 minutes before ordering (we were warned about the wait as they were very busy). Jade was a fabulous waitress. She was very attentive and accommodating. Highly recommend Slate and we will definitely be back!! Thanks for a great afternoon 👌

Wow. 6 of us ate here and what an experience. Great food (kangaroo tartare was out of this world), great wine and great beer. Service was excellent, very attentive, timing was spot on, not intrusive, good recommendations. Leave time for a wine and/or beer tasting (and a designated driver!)

Lovely welcome from Greeter/Covid Marshall. We had a wonderful time at Slate. The service was exceptional, staff friendly, helpful and attentive. Food absolutely delicious, could not fault a thing. We are locals, we are spreading the word and will definitely be back soon.

A delectable lunch in this fine restaurant. My partner and I both loved each course. Starting with home made soudough bread with cultured butter and parmesan oil, on to the "five spice duck breast" to the "Spanish style seafood hotpot" and the "braised lamb neck with gnocci" with a side of "honey glazed Brussel sprouts with almonds and pancetta". We finished with the "ginger and cardamom spiced pana cotta". Each serving absolutely delicious. Lovely Pike's wines rounded out a truly unforgettable experience.

Should be 2 hatted. Service was excellent, not rushed or intrusive, just spent over 2 hours for lunch there and everything was lovely. Started with wine and olives and a few fresh oysters, shared an entre of quail which was deboned and delicious followed by the barramundi hotpot for me whilst my wife had the duck breast entre as a main with a side of Brussel sprouts and finished with the panna cotta,a beautiful meal at a reasonable price. Get the Brussel sprouts.

Pikes wines and beers have long been a treat for us, this restaurant continues the tradition. Liked everything about it, food, atmosphere and the low key, attentive staff. Will definitely be returning.

Enjoyed a wonderful lunch today. Everything from the house made bread and butter, entrees, mains, sides and desserts were delicious. Staff were friendly and service was great. Definitely worth a visit.
