Have lived in Clare area for 8 years and it was the first time I have seen it. Mum and I enjoyed the visit and the lady that gave an interesting and informative information about it and about Horrick himself. Just watch head height due to low areas.

John Horrocks Cottage at Penwortham in the Clare Valley, South Australia, was built in 1839 by pioneer and explorer John Ainsworth Horrocks; one of the first white men to take up land in the area. He founded and named the village of Penwortham after his home in Lancashire, England.

The cottage is the oldest stone building north of Gawler, has been recently restored and is presented in as near original state as possible. Adjacent to the cottage is a restored stone out-building with a collection of photos and books depicting the history of the cottage and the local area.

Cottage is open to the public on the first Sunday of each month from 2-4pm.

Something to do, if you're travelling through. The house is well maintained for its age but not as interesting as some of the others we have seen like from similar eras like Moonta Mines, Severnhill etc
