Love this bakery. The curry scallop pie is the best. Whenever I’m in the area I stop here for lunch. The custard tarts are also fantastic. The staff are great and even when it’s busy they get to everyone quickly. You won’t be disappointed.

It was quite busy when we went. But the pies were good and reasonable priced. We tried their curry chilli crab pie and the Cambodian fish pie. The seafood was great, I wasn't 💯 with the flavours. The plain beef pie was on point. 😍

These pies are falling continuously into the prices for good reason. You don't have to sit down here for the atmosphere, and you might feel a bit rushed while getting take out pies, but the quality is absolutely worth it. I will take a 30 minute detour every time I'm driving out this area. The pies are better than the rolls though.

We decided to try the award winning pies based on their reputation as the home of Australia’s best pie!
The queue to order varied while we were there from 12 - 6 people waiting at any time, although the queue did move quickly.
The many award certificates and trophies are on display and the pie selections should accommodate anyone.
We left with our bellies full and tastebuds tingling.

Since moving to Victoria I’ve noticed that just about every second bakery you drive past has won the coveted Australian Pie of the Year award. I’ve had some absolute rippers so on a recent drive to Melbourne, we simply had to stop in to try the latest winner, Country Cob Bakery and the Cambodian Amuk Fish Curry pie. We visited the Kyneton store and the line for service was out the door. Besides the fish curry pie, we bought a caramelised pork and pepper pie, a cowboy beef and a mushroom pie that I can’t find on the menu online. They came second place with their vanilla slice as well so it would’ve been rude not to indulge. Let’s start with the big winner. I wasn’t sure about a fish flavoured pie and I can’t lie, the first bite was a little bit strange to wrap your head around that flavour in pie shaped form. I’m happy to report that each subsequent bite yielded an explosion of happiness on my tongue so you did not want it to end. The pie form held together nicely so there was no mess besides my salivation splashing everywhere. An incredibly pleasant surprise and not a flavour I would have contemplated buying in the past. All the others we got were wonderful. I think they’ve all won awards from the previous few years. The caramelised pork and pepper is right up my alley for pie flavour (I’m a pepper steak kind of guy). Delicious! The cowboy beef: Delicious again! Even the mushroom pie knocked us for six! No meal is complete without dessert, but if you blinked, you would have missed that we even got the vanilla slices. It was like a magicians trick how quick we devoured them! Well played, Country Cob. The awards are well deserved in our opinion.

I visited the famous bakery in Kyneton. I spoke to a few locals and they recommended the scallop pie. The cafe/bakery is a typical country type place, but they have a huge selection.

The scallop pie was had four or five scallops in, which I thought was great value. They were meaty, the mornay sauce was great and it was a really enjoyable pie. I had the beef pie too, it's a great beef pie, but the scallop was the winner for me.

They have loads of traditional country bakes here, as well as pies. I spotted jelly slices, neenish tarts, vanilla slices etc. I got a pie for lunch, then looped back and had one on the train.

It was a good experience and a good day out in Kyneton.

Always enjoy my pies here. Schnitzel burger didn't have coleslaw this time and was served in a brioche or milk bun instead of the sesame roll...

Best pies EVER from here, & such a great variety to choose from it makes for a difficult choice! :)
Service with a lovely smile as well.
I would go out of my way for miles to buy a pie from here!
Highly recommended.

Extensive selection of pies. Might not get your favourite or special of the day. But anything else you fancy will be great.

Bought 5 to take home and they included a cheat-sheet with graphical representation of which pie is what.

Country Cob Bakery has to be one of Victoria’s biggest gems when it comes to puff pastry and service.

The variety of pies on offer is superb and the quality is second-to-none.

I forced myself to have two, simply because it’s impossible to choose.

I had their Australian Pie of the Year 2023 — Cambodian Fish Amon. This was a restaurant-quality meal inside the most perfect, flaky puff pastry. It was packed with flavour and something everyone should try.

I also decided to get the Beef Cheese Chilli Jalapeño, which was one of the Pies of the Month. Again, this was one amazing pie! The beef was perfectly-cooked and chunky. The jalapeño was sliced in nice pieces, which gave it a very decent kick.

I couldn’t help myself and got four pies to go, which we’re going to have for dinner tonight — a plane Mince Pie, Mushroom Pie, Egg Cheese and Bacon Pie, and a Cowboy Beef, which has BBQ Sauce, Mushrooms, and Onions.

Do yourself a favour and go for a drive on a nice day — it’s worth the trip!!

Best pies i have ever eaten. We came back the next day to try more flavours. Pies had real proper ingredients, it wasnt the usual reconstituted mush that most pies have.

We tried the cambodian fish amok, singaporean chilli crab, beef chilli cheese jalapeno and the black forest mushroom truffle. All of them were bloody incredible.

Absolutely keen to crack into the Cambodian Amok pie & the Chili Crab pie. (Pictured)

The moment you walk in, you are greeted as locals by the staff who are smiling happily behind the counter eager to serve you.

Both were absolutely stunning and can easily understand why Country Cob are the winners of so many awards.

The sweets they had on offer again were award worthy! Didn’t have time to snap a photo as they were eaten so quickly.

Definitely a recommendation to pop in and try a pie! Much more worth the drive than other bakeries ;)

I spent the first week of 2024 travelling around central Victoria, visited a lot of bakeries, and Country Cob Kyneton had easily - and I mean easily - the best pie of the bunch. I ordered the beef cheese chili jalapeño pie from the specials board and from first bite I knew I was onto something special. The pastry was perfect, the pie was properly spicy, the meat good quality, and the cheese not obscured by the other flavours. My friend ordered the Cambodian fish pie and was similarly impressed, remarking that it captured perfectly the tastes she remembered from visiting Cambodia. I wish this was my local bakery! Lucky Kyneton.

Most amazing pies I've ever tasted! Both pastry and filling were top notch. I had a plain beef, and can really see why it has so many awards. My partner had chicken, ham and leek and said it was also amazing. Only down side was that they were so busy.

Amazing! Truly the best pies in Australia! Creative exotic flavours and polished traditional favourites can be found in their expansive menu. Each flavour is encased in a flaky pastry that's strong enough to hold together but goes down oh, so well. Truly a must for any pie gourmand.

The Plain Meat Pie is a multi award winner for a reason, perfect consistency and flavour of beef mince filling.
Pastry on all of the pie, outstanding.
My only gripe would be the Potato Top Pie being standard, and a bit dry, but given the selection...
The awards and trophy walls says all there needs to be said.
Worth the visit.

We drove two hours to try their famous pies and it was worth the trip. The pepper pie is a league above the rest. The spice mix is more complex than a regular pepper pie, with the addition of chillie peppers. The slightly fruity taste of the chillies elevate the pie to award winning status (of which it has won several). And of course, I had to try their curry scallop pie (featured on Masterchef). It was delicious! The scallops were fresh and buttery, not the rubbery kind you find in imitation pies. The curry was surprisingly sweet and delicious. The only pie I did not enjoy was a chillie crab pie that was a special at the time. The crab tasted like it had come from a can and the meat did not have much texture. Apart from that, I strongly recommend their pies. I used to write a blog about pies so I've tried a few. Country Cob is in my top three list for pies. Go try them.

GOOD VANILLA SLICE AND AWARD WINNING MEAT PIE!
This lovely little town has an award winning bakery having won best meat pie 2022. I had to have one and it was good. However, the vanilla slice was definitely a step above the rest.
Worth a stop on a road trip any time!

The mushroom pie was amazing. I never really considered why people don’t make this the de facto vegetarian/vegan pie, it makes so much sense in a rich gravy instead of some weird textured vegetable protein. The frangipani tart was also amazing, but I couldn’t figure out what the relationship with frangipanis was. Will come back and try their other veg flavours.
