Best Peruvian place I've been to. Best restaurant in Sydney . Amazing food with good flavours. The swordfish was cooked to perfection. The cerviche is tangy and fresh. Def need to come back next trip.

Beautiful set menu, as always. Fish incredibly fresh, the flavours and how they’re combined are like a symphony in your mouth. Love Nikkei and their creativity, mixing and matching classic with modern.

Flavoured packed modern Peruvian Japanese. Everything from grilled wagyu, tiraditos, skewers are excellent. Good vegetarian menu. Also has a few outdoor tables which are dog friendly. Great pisco sours and cocktails in general.

First time here with a group of friends and it didn’t disappoint. Lovely ambience, decor, food and service! Shout out to the innovative payment system where you scan a QR code and split payments are possible - no fuss and great when dining out with a big group.

Omg...this is a great place. Met a friend, and we had the chefs special menu for lunch. It's a short walk from Central Station. The food is delish, and the cocktails are divine.

I honestly cannot fault Nikkei. The restaurant is so beautiful, it has a great atmosphere and the staff are lovely. The cocktails and food were probably the best I've had in Sydney, everything was amazing. I'm not usually a big seafood person but the oysters, mackerel and civiche were incredible! I'd heard good things about Nikkei before but was genuinely surprised by just how good it was. This is my new place favourite place.

Good place for a drink after work. Nice atmosphere and good service. The bar looks extremely busy at Friday night, so I waited a bit longer for my food.

Food was sooo good, everything was super flavourful and balanced. Recommend the oysters, the cheese bread, the soft shell crab.
We would have ordered more drinks if the waiter had come around more

A fusion which was beyond our expectations!
Our friend and I didn't know what to expect of Peruvian food but we found it to be a delight of flavours balanced with perfect spice.
The first dish was a chef's surprise (which I won't ruin for others!), but it was full of flavour and umami! My eyes lit up immediately with the first taste!
I cannot pick a favourite dish of the night because, in all honesty, they were all amazing, and mouthwateringly delicious.

I have allergies which we noted when we made our reservations - I really need to give the highest praise for how attentive the staff and chef were with my allergies, ensuring everything my friend and I ate was plated separately to ensure there was no 'contamination' of my food with the allergens.

Our sommelier/server, Phill, must have a special mention. We asked for wine pairing with our set menu. My goodness, we were not disappointed! Phil was patient, passionate and very knowledgeable in the wines he paired for us. Many surprising pairings with a great variety of international and local choices. One of the best and unique wine pairings I've experienced (ever).

If my mini essay isn't a testament to how amazing Nikkei is as a dinner spot for a special or casual night, we synced our calendars and made another booking immediately whilst eating our dessert!

Went in for dinner on a Friday night, and the vibe was warm and welcoming. We were looked after from the beginning - the staff were very friendly and prompt with taking our orders and serving food. We were seated at the counter, right next to all the kitchen action which was a delight to watch.

The menu was absolutely incredible - every dish felt perfectly balanced and tasty. Props to the chefs, they did a great job. Will definitely be back to try all the dishes we didn’t opt for, simply because we couldn’t fit any more in.

Lovely ambiance, food is well thought and executed. We had asked for a relaxed seating time on Friday evening and they were extremely accommodating. Would recommend and we had ordered across the menu so it was perfect.
I wished they had a tempting dessert option. I am h in ist not a fan of sorbets and ice-cream on a cold night.

Great menu, wine list, decor and staff. The fusion of Japanese and South American creates genuinely unique flavours. Highly recommended.

👀 A foodie friend Pete invited me here and id always wanted to try Peruvian so I thought id give it a go!! I got street parking right out the front $, and had the most amazing dinner. The name Nikkei refers to people of Japanese ancestry living abroad as citizens of other countries. It also specifically refers to the cuisine of the Japanese-Peruvians which started more than a century ago when the first Japanese immigrated to Peru in the late 1890s. Nikkei presents beautiful, eye catching dishes that immerse us into the Peruvian culture.

💥 The fit out is so beautiful, I love the huge wooden table down the centre of the restaurant, that looks like a huge chunk out of a tree. It feels so warm and inviting and I love that we sat at the bar!

💁🏼‍♀ Because we did sit at the bar, we felt the service was amazing, we got to talk to the chefs and bar staff and they made the night memorable.

🍸 Pisco Sour of course!! $22 del parral pisco, lime, aquafaba, amargo chuncho bitters, it is a must try when you dine here.

They have cocktails and an extensive house soda menu too! Teas, beer, sake and heaps of wine.

🍴We picked things from the piqueos / bar food menu including:

hokkaido scallop ceviche, leche de tigre verde, sweet potato, spanish onion, cancha corn, this wasn’t just eye catching it was delicious!! $23

papas rellenas de hongo, mushroom croquettes, $14 corn, olives, aji amarillo (2pcs) (vg) Papas rellenas translates as stuffed potatoes these potato croquettes are filled with mushroom, corn, green olives and aji amarillo (Peruvian yellow chilli), fried in panko crumbs and served alongside Japanese curry sauce for dipping. So different and delicious!

hiramasa kingfish tiradito with an acevichado-style sauce of aji amarillo and lime, topped with shiso salsa, simple but absolutely fresh and delicious.

sweet corn, smoked paprika, shichimi butter, 16 the perfect side to our steak dish, ditch the fries and get these instead.

Angus beef short rib was slow-cooked so it melts in your mouth, with a tangy anticucho spiced sauce and wasabi leaf chimichurri. Such perfection I love me a short rib and this was incredible, just look at those colours!!

&& the star of the show was the dessert: suspiro de Nikkei: miso manjar blanco (aka dulce de leche), port-infused meringue, sesame crumb and pitaya (aka dragonfruit), this was seriously amazing, every element the crunch the fruit the sweet and tartness of the meringue - incredible!!

I think they’ve since taken the dessert off the menu but all the fresh, bar food look incredible, ill have to go back when im not pregnant and can eat raw fish again.

✨ This is such a cool place for a group of friends or date night. Get cultured and get some Peruvian cuisine.

Fantastic, enjoyed dinner hear before a show at The Capitol Theatre. Superb set menu allows you to taste a variety of Peruvian-Japanese influenced meals - enjoyed something similar in South America & Nikkei would rate very high compared to that. Excellent service, have good insight to the choice of ingredients & had great choices to complement wine with the meal. This will definitely be a regular for us. Highly recommend it, different from the usual stuff, very enjoyable.

Came for a new experience of flavours and that's what I found. First time trying Peruvian x Japanese fusion and wasn't too sure on what the profile would be like. It was a great mix of grilled and seafood. Extensive wine list, very filling portions and a reasonable price for the set menu - $95pp plus add ons e.g. oysters. For the money the food had the potential to maybe be a touch better but overall it was faultless with exceptional service and great vibe.

Returned to Nikkei after a long break - was impressed with every dish. Great flavours that celebrate Peruvian cuisine. Friendly staff - including the chef. Relaxed place that appears to be a hit with locals.

A friend invited us to celebrate her last day working near by and we're glad we joined her as it was absolutely delicious!

We went for the set menu and left with full belly's, the range and quality far outpaces it's $95 asking price, hard to pick a favorite out of the lot, even the quinoa was amazing, I mean, quinoa, no one expects the side for a perfect strip of wagyu to be anything more than something to fill it's shadow but it clearly wasn't taking second place!

Service was great, everyone was welcoming and friendly, even though every table was taken they managed to stay prompt and attentive throughout the night, with food coming out at a great cadence, barely a wait between the courses.

Top night, will be back!

My first time having Peruvian-Japanese food and I was blown away! Such interesting mix of flavours in all the dishes that I had. Service was excellent, each item in the menu was explained thoughtfully when we received each dish and they knew all the answers to our questions about ingredients. The set menu was definitely the right amount of food (for 2 ppl) and we got *just* full. The highlights for the current set menu were the ceviche, the verde sauce was limey and delicious!! The add-on oysters were also a treat and every drink I had was delicious. I'd say it is much more Peruvian with dashes of Japanese flavours (I think they really like shichimi :P). Would go again!
