The UQ GSRF is the largest and most sophisticated facility for pilot-scale systems-level PV research anywhere in the world. It contains a 3.275 MW CdTe array, bespoke Central Supervisory System, Data Hub, Research Building and Battery Storage Research Station. Three different PV tracking technologies are working in the plant to provide energy for the campus, and data for meaningful research. In addition, a 600 kW/760 kWh Li-Polymer battery is installed in the plant to do energy and demand charge management, peak shaving and valley filling, and ramp-rate control of the PV production.
