Fab homewares store easily accessible on high st. Loads of fresh stock in addition to sale items if u r looking for a bargain. Beautifully curated with friendly customer service. It's definitely worth a look if in the area.

The Hive is a beautiful gift shop with a lovely selection of products, great for gifting or purchasing yourself a little treat! The team who work in this store are delightful and go above and beyond to help. I called them to organise a gift for my colleague and I really wanted to support a lovely local gem like The Hive. I’m unable to shop in store due to being in hospital currently. I was so thrilled with how kind Tara was and so incredibly helpful. She organised a gift certificate, a gift and wrote the card for me. It was convenient to pay over the phone and the gift will be hand delivered tomorrow!

At approximately 2 pm on Tuesday, 24 January I entered this guft store in Ashburton…… A young girl with brown hair was standing behind the counter I made I contact with her and gave a slight smile and was met with absolutely nothing. No greeting no smile no nothing just a blank stare through me. I am a local, well presented, 50-year-old educated woman so I’m pretty much the target market for this store. Last night I had looked on the website and there are a few things in stock that I wanted to buy so I spent a few minutes looking around during those minutes I also looked back at the girl 2-3 times to see if ‘anyone was home’. There wasn’t. Each time she looked directly at me but did not engage in any way, did not say anything, did not smile- it was very very weird. I could see the things that I wanted were in stock but there is absolutely no way I was going to make a purchase under these circumstances. I ended up leaving after around four minutes because it was just a very very awkward vibe. As a business owner I feel compelled to make the owner of this store aware of this situation . If that was my store I would be utterly mortified. If you have to tell someone to greet the customers or smile at them or at least give a basic acknowledgement then there is a real real problem. that’s not something you can teach !! Nor is manners or common sense. The girl was NOT busy cleaning or putting stock on shelves she was literally just standing at the counter looking through / at me but ignoring me. Wow. That was my first trip to The Hive and it will be my last.
