Old Fernvale Bakery & Cafe

I stop here a lot when riding the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail. I popped in yesterday - Saturday - and they had 6 people serving to whip through the customers. With over 100 pies to chose from and a wide variety of sweet treats, breads and scones, this is one of the very best bakeries.

I got a family pie - beef, bacon and cheese - and my beautiful wife described it as the best pie she had in a very long time. The Kit Kat doughnut didn’t last the ride home… 🤣

You certainly don’t go here for the “atmosphere. The pies/pastries are what it’s all about.
I had a steak/tomato & onion pie. Fantastic.
I can only give it a 9.5. Although, I might be tempted to give it a 10.
My partner had a plain steak pie, which was a 9.5.
So well worth a visit.

The most delicious pies and cakes available at Fernvale bakery. There is always a huge queue out the door, but do not let this deter you as they serve you very quickly. It’s definitely worth the short wait in line. Large variety of pies all made on site. Don’t drive past without trying one if you’re in the area.

What a lovely place! Recently visited here with some family for lunch. Everything was wonderful! You MUST try one of the meat pies with chips- you will not regret it and you will not leave hungry. We went to the bakery next door and stocked up on some baked goodies as well and they were all fantastic.

The food is amazing and great range and price. Service in bakery was wonderful but left a little to be desired in the cafe. Waited 11 minutes to be acknowledge and order my chips and gravy to compliment our amazing pies.

Favorite place for us to get pies and milkshake anytime we went to Esk.
Love their decorations, very vintage ,old school style and definitely valued.

First time here and was amazed by how good just a simple beef and mushroom pie was. I was so tempted to get another one but this large pie priced at only $6.75(?) started filling me up. Can’t wait until next time to go back and try other flavours. Wished I knew this place earlier though as it was well worth the 50 min drive.

Absolutely the best steak pie and meat pasty we've ever had. Plenty of country charm and indoor/outdoor areas to dine, relax and enjoy. Will definitely be back.

What a treasure of a place to visit! The kids scoffed their treats too quickly to photograph but my gosh - spoilt for choice! So many great fresh baked options, tender pies and some of the best hot cross buns!

Hands down the best pie I have eaten to this date. Generous content, crispy pastry and spot on spices.
I would highly recommend the curry pie if you'd like a bit of heat and a lot of flavour.
We had to queue up and the restaurant is very popular. Service was speedy and well managed.
The location is also great. Being on the side of a relatively busy highway and also in a town which attracts a lot of cyclists and hikers for Brisbane Valley Rail Road.

We went to the cafe today for lunch. Big thick shakes in the huge traditional metal containers. So tasty. Had the eggs Benedict. 3 eggs, perfectly cooks, beautiful sourdough bread, and lovely homemade benne sauce. Everything was well priced, service friendly and prompt.
Will definitely be returning.

Helping the In laws move out here has been quite tiring work.

The upside to being out in the sticks is this beautiful Bakery.

I have been twice this week and haven't been disappointed.
The staff are wonderful, cakes and food delicious!

I recommend a chocolate thickshake if You're after a sweet drink.

Huge range of pies. All are super tasty and don’t skimp on the meat. You can pre-order frozen pies in advance (especially their fancy pies or game meat).
Bread is fantastic, and good range from cheap basic white through to olive sourdough, dark rye, and a low-carb loaf.
Great fast and kind service. Long hours, and staff are super nice if you cycle through at night.
Staff manage well with busy crowds.
They did well with distancing through the pandemic. Lots of community support.
Love their fun approach to events, flavoured hot cross buns, rainbow bread.

This place is amazing. Best pies! Their selection of game meat pies is awesome! Absolutely love going there and stopping in on our travels. Great variety, great service, friendly country faces to make your day!

Arrived feeling cold from a brisk start to our day. Was warm and staff welcomed us with smiles and happy good morning. Coffee was great,.food spot on. Like a good old fashioned country breakfast. Loved the old retro style. Will be back. Thanks team.

The food is really delicious!! There are always crowd in this small shop, but thanks to plenty of staffs here, don’t need to wait for too long.

We tried the pie and understood why it was so popular immediately! The pie skin was really soft and delicious !

We will love to come back and try other stuffs on the menu next time !

We enjoyed superb steak and kidney pies from Fernvale bakery today. The pastry was light and flaky, moist without being greasy, the filling delicious and generous. The young lady who served us was also very helpful and polite. If we lived closer we would be shopping here every week. You deserve your success. Thank you!

Stopped in here on my way home, and after a pleasantly painful decision on what to choose from the aray of delicious sweet goodies, I finally chose an apple turnover. The service was fast as they have enough staff to accommodate the constant flow of customers and so I was served within seconds of entering the bakery. Their apple turnover is by far the best I have ever had. In the last decade or so, my memory of an apple turnover, while very yummy, has always be of a residue always being left on my pallet.. . The apple turnover from the Old Fernvale Bakery & Cafe was not only the right amount of sweetness, but it left absolutely no residue on my palette. I wish I had thought about doing this review before I ate it so I could have taken a couple of photos but it was that more-ish, my taste buds took over and it was no longer in my hands. If you're an apple turnover lover, I urge you to take a drive to Fernvale and grab yourself a feed at the Old Fernvale Bakery & Cafe, they won't disappoint, no matter what you end up choosing to satisfy your taste buds.
