Love the old sandwash area, especially in summer!

It is a 6 minute drive from the last roundabout heading to Tharwa. Once you have passed Tharwa Bridge about 2 kms down the road, you will cross a small one lane section of the road, the turn-off is about 1 km up the hill on your left-hand side and you will see a old shearing shed...

Once you have made that turn, there are a couple of tight corners onto another one lane bridge, and across the other side, you will see a dirt road on your left, and you are all most there,

Around about km of dirt to the small parking area which can hold about 8-10 cars

There is only one table here and in summer it's usually taken so it's best to bring a small table and chairs for yourself

Swimming here is a great way to cool off, and you take the time to notice that if you sit still in the shallow part of the water, you have little freshwater shrimp come out and start cleaning the dead skin off you, you come out looking and feel brand new...

There's an old road that starts at the locked gate that eventually turns into a track that takes you to a little sandy beach when the water isn't so high!

You can spot some wildlife here along with the odd wild cat or two. Be very careful as sometimes in summer you can find large eastern brown snakes under the bottom stepjust beforeyouget into the water. Unfortunately, fishing is off limit's and also bringing your dog here for a walk.

South of Canberra about 40 minutes drive from the city and you are already in a dark place and if you are like me who loves shooting the Milkyway you Will definable love this place. Ocassionaly you have cars running up and down but doesn't really disturb much. Nearby you will aslo see a beautiful Cuppacumbalong Shed as well. You can take a dip in the river while it is hot in summer. I have seen many people but I haven't done it may be sooner.
