Salty Dog Cafe Coolongolook

Fantastic little pit stop! I was very impressed with my seafood basket - some of the juiciest prawn cutlets I've ever had, and the calamari was nice and tender, not chewy at all. The service was super friendly, and food came out super quickly. The outside dining area looked relaxing but we didn't have time to eat in.

Stopped on our way to Forster and we were very happy with the food. It is not very visible from the main road, we almost missed it. Fresh fish and variety of options, due to time we only tried the Hoki and Whiting. Will definitely come back to try more.

Great stop for lunch. Still on the highway so you dont have to veer off. Nice ambience with tables and chairs outside and under cover with a fire for when it's colder. Nice grass area so the kids can run around. Friendly staff and best of all great food. Definitely a good stop on your way up the coast.

Really enjoyable fish and chips. Tasty and beautifully cooked. Great rustic seating area. Friendly service. Clean toilets.

(June 2021) Edit: Sadly it appears that this lovely precinct is now closed. We were passing through & looking forward to calling in. I truly hope that it is not a permanent closure!

😁😋 What a lovely spot to break on a long drive! Not only is the food delish & sizeable servings, the tables out on the grassed area, under the shade of the umbrellas & trees🌳, makes for a refreshing breather. Wonderful friendly smiley staff make you feel welcome!

I’ve stopped here on many occasions and the seafood is excellent! If you need a rest and a snack or some good food on your trip, stop here, there’s no crowds! Just good food

Big Dog - 2 fish, 3 prawn cutlets, 5 calamari & great chips with lemon & tartare sauce delicious. Take the driveway to the parking bay for a hamlet of 4 cafes to stretch your legs, walk the puppy, visit the bathroom & of course a delicious meal

On a holiday don’t die getting there and back! Stop with the kids and dogs!!! Home cooked big meals with a fire place… Great choice All day Breakfast Burger Fish and chips. Room for kitties to run safely, dog friendly. Do not miss it I am not a sweet tooth but lots to offer…

The Salty Dog is a wonderful cafe at Coolongolook with plenty of parking, grass area and toilets. It has outdoor seating areas and a open fireplace. The Salty Dog serves top quality meals and the seafood is fresh and they also serve alcohol in a relaxed friendly atmosphere. The fish and chips are the freshest Iv had in a while,also the meals are value for money. There is a great little gallery next door. I would highly recommend The Salty Dog.$$ to $$$

The warm chicken salad was moist and tender, a very satisfying lunch in a very quaint location.

Recommended to stop at Salty Dog by a friend while on a recent road trip. Glad we did! Much better than service station options and right on main road (parking around the back). My children loved the zucchini and corn fritters made by Lee their new chef. Awesome pitstop.

Seriously the best fish and Chips ever! So fresh and tasty, will definitely come back next time we pass through!

Great good (especially the calamari), friendly staff, great space for the kids to enjoy with a pet rabbit and clean!! Highly recommend.

I don't even know where to begin with this review!

We just left there and had popped in just before closing time (I didn't even realise)

My family and I arrived at 750 (I didn't look at the time) and asked if they were closing and these beautiful ladies said no not at all we're just cleaning while we have the chance, not making me feel like I had put them out in any way at all!

I ordered fish and chips for my partner, 5 kids and I, just a little something to get us through till we get home and the servings we recieved were massive, I'm glad I only bought 3!!
We got the fish and chips, a coffee and a couple nuggets and it was UNDER $50.

My kids were very impressed and although young a couple went and expressed their appreciation for the very yummy food they received.

Upon our departure(nearly an hour later) I asked what time they closed and the lady said eight o'clock, I was mortified and apologised for holding them up and they were so lovely, bubbly and super friendly and even stopped to talk to my kids.

Will absolutely be back when we head back down and will be sure to pass on the details of this little hidden restaurant to those I know travelling through.

Thank you so much for such a delightful experience and exceptionally tasty food at AMAZING prices.

If you are in the area go and call in, you will be 110% satisfied.

Enjoyed lunch here Monday 28/3/22. Between us we tried the Fish and Chips, the Big Dog, the lime & chilli prawns and the salt & pepper calamari. All were sensational! Good value for money, lovely staff and Pet friendly. Plenty of space between tables, we enjoyed having our dog tethered near our table without her being able to reach other diners. Can't wait to visit again.

Beautiful little spot right off the highway. Their sign said best pies on the mid north coast and we agree! Lovely people, lovely food. Support them if you can.
