The Apprentice Restaurant Sydney

Incredible food for the price! Entry and mains were stand out, desert was a little dry however. You can feel a little “watched” as there are a bunch of apprentices training and it’s a pretty small space, but you’ve gotta expect that. Food was on point so decent trade off.

Great value for the food you get! It was a very interesting experience to be in a training restaurant. Food and service were great.

My only note, however, is that the menu seemed to slightly differ from what was actually served. I would suggest that anyone with allergies state all of them, even if an allergen wasn’t spotted in the menu. The dishes of the day were as follows:

Entrée: Tea-smoked kangaroo with sweet potato and macerated dates

Main: Beef cheek with fondant potatoes, warrigal greens and truss tomatoes

Dessert: Baked wattle seed cheesecake with Davidson plum and pear crisps

While the main seemed to be accurate, the entrée was served with edamame instead of macerated dates, and the dessert was served with strawberry instead of Davidson plum. No issues with me personally as I have no allergies but just concerned for anyone who may.

It was overall still a great dining experience, and there were even special wines of the day where you could get a whole bottle for $20!

I just had an unforgettable experience at The Apprentice. If you want to be part of something great and help unleash the new generation of chefs and hospitality professionals to the World, I strongly recommend being part of this dining experience. When I found them on google, I saw that people typically reserve way in advance. Given that I was only in Sydney for two nights, on my way back from New Zealand to California I decided to show up anyway hoping for the best, but having a plan B dining option, as I was prepared to be turned away. As I entered this roof top training establishment, I was immediately blown away by the view and the professionalism of the hospitality management teacher who greeted me very nicely at the door. He explained the reservation requirement (they ration meals in accordance with reservations since this is not a commercial restaurant), and as I was prepared to walk away, he graciously said (like they show in movies) “just give me a second to check with the chef” Well, it was my lucky day, as one of the attendees couldn’t make it. As a result, I experienced a fabulous three course dinner, had a wonderful chat with the teacher who even showed me their professional kitchen, I also learned more about this amazing development program and met the awesome students who chose the perfect menu, cooked and served our dinner under the guidance and supervision of the professional chef and the hospitality manager. And the cherry on top is the entire three-course meal with the cheese platter after dessert, sparkling wine and a hot tea was only $51 AUD!
This was definitely a highlight of my trip before I head back to California. I wish all these wonderful students a very bright future and rewarding career in hospitality and want to thank their amazing teachers for all the work they’ve put in this program!

Highly recommended a visit. This restaurant serves amazing food by tafe students and is priced very well. We had the 6 course degustation menu for lunch at $39pp

You need to book advanced using open table and it's always fully booked!

Lovely people (both students and supervisors), great food, nice ambience. A fine dining experience that doesn't come with a hefty price tag. We had 6 course degustation and every dish tasted and looked amazing. Highly recommended. We'll be back.

I always done at this training restaurant. Firstly for the price value.
But as enticingly... the excitement of fine dining and the surprise package of not knowing how the dish would be presented. I rate Taste as generally between 7-9 out of 10. Not bad for a cooking training school really.

Awesome service, awesome food, easy location to get to by transport. Apprentices create culinary dishes, and serve in at atmosphere of fine dining. It was honestly one of the best meals I've eaten. It's great to see these young people hone their craft with such enthusiasm. For that alone it's 5 star. Just brilliant!

My first time at this training restaurant and it it was a lot of fun. Our server was Liam who seemed like a great guy who was happy and motivated to provide people with great service. On arrival, we were surprised with complimentary wine (we were not aware it was the current special for Tuesday services.) On top of this, the pricing adds great value for what you get. The restaurant is on the 7th floor offering views of the area with the opportunity to see the sky change with the sunset as you eat. The food was great, service was great, the overall experience was great. This is definitely a place you want to check out in Sydney.

The selection of dishes covered all tastes. The dish had a well chosen complication of glorious memorable products. Superbly cooked by students. Real cloth table cloths and cloth serviettes and good quality cutlery & crockery. An array of drinks. The students were superb well mannered people that lift your spirits and make you feel 5 star special. The view is spectacular. Everything is so clean. Easy access & lift. A short walk from central station. I will go again.

The apprentice restaurant at Ultimo TAFE is a great place to dine! I highly recommend it the food is delicious and very reasonably priced. All the staff are very friendly and the ambiance great!

More than worth the money. This was an absolute great date night! Service was fantastic and the dishes looked amazing. Of course there is some room for improvement in terms of dishes (e.g. Cooking time, seasoning etc) but we were more than happy with the overall experience

Nice friendly service and good tasting food in a cool environment where the students are learning. I would recommend this for a work team lunch or even a date at night.

I was with the Active Care group 17/10. A great experience, everything from the table setting to the food and the friendly staff. Thank you, will definitely visit again.

What a great concept to ensure students receive that experience before joining the workforce

Been here twice now and the value for money is unbeatable. Definitely worth the try. However only available on weekdays. Otherwise I would be here more often!

Only learnt about this place when I attended the Tafe open day. Booked a last minute Lunch & the Students did a great job. Could do with more advertising as I was impressed & I'm sure others would be too
