Southern Rockhole

Nitmiluk is an amazing place, the southern rock pools are only available during the wet season, December to March approximately. Highly recommended doing the hike from the visitors centre (about 2 hours) and getting the boat back, which you need to book.

A great wet season destination, and conveniently connected by Nitmiluk ferry from the Visitor Centre, or an hour hike over moderate terrain. It can get crowded on the weekends, but if you take the 11am ferry in and wait until after the return trip at 12:30pm, you may have the entire swimming hole to yourself (and then just hike back). Also be aware that parts of the river entrance require decent rock scrambling skills and the rocks near the swimming hole can also be slippery and tricky. Take great care, bring a picnic, and enjoy the hike (and wonderful waterfalls).

The hike to Pat's Lookout and Jeddah Rock is easy and well worth the two hours return. Stunning views of the gorge.

It has been a nice walk from the main entrance to the waterfall. Not too steep and not too boring. I could enjoy a few hours of beautiful scenery with my friends.

The outlook is very close to the actual waterfall.

Amazing swimming spot - must visit! It took us about an hour to walk to the rockhole. It has some steep steps to climb down and you need to walk over uneven surfaces. We caught the boat back from the rockhole which was about a 5/10 minute ride and cost around $14 each from memory.

An easy hike in, beautiful area to cool off with a dip, fantastic view of the Gorge from the lookout, plenty of shade once at the Rockhole. Can't comment on the Ferry service as I always hike in and out.

Did the 1.5 Southern Rockhole tour (28 Mar 2021 - eet season) - Nice little croc- free swim hole with a stunning waterfall. Beautiful and breathtaking. It is a 10 minute walk through rocks though, but very doable.

Absolutely lovely, perfect for a dip after a long bushwalk in the heat. In wet season there's a small waterfall running into it too. Don't forget to bring insect repellent and a netted hat or at the very least something to swat the flies with or they'll drive you mad on the walk there.

The Southern Rock Hole was probably my favourite waterfall out of Litchfield, Edith Falls and Katherine Gorge.
You can catch a ferry there and back for $15 one way. Or you can walk which is a couple of hours. Or you can walk one way and ferry back.
It has heaps of shade and places to sit down and relax. It doesnt really get that hot, even in the hottest part of the day!
The water is clear and is so refreshing to swim in.
I went in the wet season and it wasnt busy at all. I imagine that it would be extremely busy in the dry. BUT! definitely worth seeing!!
I will be visiting again for sure.

Went for a hike then swim under the waterfall today. Magical!

You appreciate this swimming hole a lot more after doing the walk/hike to get there. You can ferry either way though.

Popular spot to enjoy the crystal clear rock pools and cascading waterfalls that flow into ea rock pool as it makes its way downstream.

Absolutely beautiful place, bit of a hike in. Pick your times as it doesn't run all year round. Almost stopped for the year.

Worth the effort to walk from the lookout to Jeddas rock but be prepared for a range of conditions & some sections are quite rough.

Reasonably difficult walk in over rocky terrain but we'll worth the effort. Magnificent!!

Hands down the best spot to go while hiking through the Katherine gorge. I went during the dry season and it was only a puddle of water. Went back during the wet after some decent rains and it was magnificent. Definitely worth the hike there
