I lived in this hostel for almost two months.
It was absolutely worth it.
Not only did the owner get me working very quickly, but I could always contact him if I had any problems. The kitchen, living and dining area as well as the bedrooms are in good condition.
Is it a 5 star hotel? No. But that's not what you expect or need. For 170 dollars a week you even get cars free of charge, which you only have to fill up yourself.

But what makes the hostel special are the people there. I felt at home there for two months and would advise anyone who has to do the 88 days to go there.

My four-month stay at Red Cliffs Backpackers felt like home away from home. The hostel exudes a warm and positive atmosphere, making it a delightful place to reside. Michael, the manager, goes above and beyond to assist backpackers in finding work opportunities, which greatly enhances the overall experience. I highly recommend Red Cliffs Backpackers to anyone seeking a welcoming environment and a supportive community during their travels.

I spent 2 months at redcliffs backpackers and I loved every second! Like most backpackers in the hostel, I was there for work purposes as I had to complete my 88 days. Within 2 days, Michael the owner of the hostel organized me a job on a melon farm . Michael is amazing, he puts so much effort into finding a good job for everyone in the hostel, nobody had to wait for a long time. There are plenty of cars available, which are part of the hostel, which we used to go to our jobs.

The hostel has everything you need to live and the people you meet at the hostel make it an unforgettable time. There are plenty of outdoor areas to chill out and some entertainment games such as table tennis, basketball, a pool table and an outdoor swimming pool is only 2 minutes away from the hostel. I can recommend this hostel 100%!

One of the loveliest places I have ever been. I was nearly two months in this working hostel and I made more than friends, every person in this hostel is such a family member for me.
Enjoyed every single minute in this hostel, great kitchen facilities, A/C rooms, free car use available (you just have to fill up the fuel when you use the car to the way to work and back). The manager is trying everything to organize a job for you, he is definitely not a psychopath or anything else. Every job is valid for the 88 days (check the postcode to be sure!)
I am normally a really critical person when it comes to reviews, but I just can give 5/5 stars because this time here was one of my best experiences in Australia so far.

So pack your stuff together and come here, you will enjoy it! I’m to sad that I have to leave tomorrow.. cheers to everyone!

I came to red Cliff backpackers with the intention of only staying to complete my 88 days but I ended up calling this place home for 7 months. I found it very easy to settle into here, it feels more like a shared house rather than a hostel. The size of the hostel is not that big and I found this really nice as it means you can get to know everyone there and form close bonds.

During my time here I had several jobs that Michael found for me and I was never waiting long in between jobs. Maybe just a few days. There are plenty of cars that can be used to get to work.

The hostel itself is not the most fancy place but it does what it needs to do. Michael is proactive when it comes to finding us work as well as efficient and reliable when dealing with any issues you might have.

Nice place, if you are a backpacker this is a place for you. Michael the manager is a kind guy, he also helps you with car rental, he even finds you a job if you don't have one. if you are on a work and holiday visa, you will feel safe in this place and you will be able to enjoy the experience of traveling and doing your 88 days of farm

I really enjoyed staying here, the atmosphere in the hostel was great, it had everything you could need and more; pool table, smart TV, games, books, table tennis.

I found work my myself by networking with other lodgers, I find that this is always the best way to find work. I always saw Michael (the owner) making an effort to find work for the people staying here, which isn't always easy as farm work depends on the weather and the farmers, who can be erratic at times.

There are vehicles provided for getting to work for FREE! All you need to do is re-fuel when they run low. The laundry machines are modern, large and well priced. The kitchen is well equipped and there are many social spaces.

Cleanliness very much depends on the people staying there, the hostel is cleaned regularly but if people are messy, there's only so much that management can do. Luckily, most people were respectful when I was staying there.

Respect is key, here and in life. If you are a responsible adult, you'll have a great time; if you're going to disrespect, cause trouble or mess about, life will treat you the same way.

I can't speak highly enough of Michael himself. He's a good, honest dude with a very interesting life experience and an outlook on life that I truly appreciate but if you mess him about, he won't suffer your foolishness. He honestly does not deserve the disrespect and dishonest reviews left here (I can see that there are many false reviews, written while I was staying there by people who weren't at the property). I was happy to meet him and I'd like to keep in touch. I'll put it this way; I met multiple people - including a couple of solo-travelling girls - who had returned to this hostel. If it was so bad and Michael was so terrible, would people come back?

At the end of the day, this is a budget-price hostel in a small country town: insects and rodents are just a part of life. If you expect luxury and for your responsibilities to be taken care of for you while making little-to-no effort and giving no respect; maybe this isn't the place for you. If you're willing to make an effort, be a decent and responsible human being and have realistic expectations; you'll be good.

I was confused when I read many bad comments about the accommodation and owner. But I have to say negative comments were totally wrong. I have been living here now and every things is very good, especially the Owner - Michael who is a good man, he tries to help us everything he can do, he gave us the car for working, he also teaches me how to drive the car properly in Australia. So I highly recommend for anyone who wants to come and live here.

Great place. Cheap rent and good infrastructure at the hostel. The owner is a gem. He provided a car so I could go to work and he provides work if you've got none. Don't listen to the sour grapes on this site. red cliffs backpackers is great. The people complaining would complain about anything.

Michael will do his best to help you to find a job ( like borrow you a car or rent one for a very cheap price). Thank You Michael.

I can’t believe this hostel is still there! I stayed at this backpackers in 1999. It was a working hostel and we picked fruit the majority of the time we were there. It was pretty good back then, sure the guys name was Bruce? Lol blast from the past 😂

Better than the average working hostel. Rocco, the owner and manager, won't lie about the work situation and will only tell you to come in when he's actually got a job that he thinks can suit you. Place quite clean, kitchen and coomon areas are cleaned daily during the week and WiFi connection works pretty good. Probably the best joice in the area.
