Absolute marvel of nature… Fascinating to know that these areas were undersea circa 400 million years ago. The guide was top notch in knowledge. Due to water damage, the usual entrance was closed. So we entered from exit and went all the way to front and returned back. Slightly longer than usual tour with around ~300 steps.
Inside temperature is a steady 17C but due to humidity, you’re better off without jumper, etc.

Online bookings only and it must be booked 24-48 hours in advance. I guess this depends on the availability. But we went during summer holidays so it was busier.

Great experience for both kids and adults.
It’s a must see if you’re in Buchan.
For families with a toddler, it’ll be lots of carrying as there are stairs and tight walking spaces. There are areas that are about 140cm height (I think!).

Overall this discovery is worth a visit!

I have been living in Melbourne for almost 16 years now and this is my first time to see the cave which was a magnificent experience. Our tour guide is knowledgeable and I believe this is on my top ten places to visit.

Had Graham as our guide this morning through the Royal Cave Tour! He is a wealth of information, answered everyone's questions in fantastic detail.
Kids had a great time too! Thanks Graham for making our day and our visit special.

500m of pure magic! Who would guess what beauty lies below their feet.... apparently a few clever people as early as the mid 1800s. A gentle decline by concrete ramp into the cave. A fair bit if ducking required and some narrow sections. From the end of the ramp, along the entire walk there are stunning scenes. Stalagmites, stalactites, helictites (looks like noodles on the roof), flowstone and shawls everywhere. 'Fairy Dust' that glitters. Even some old steps are turning into flowstone. One of the most impressive caves we have visited. Truly worth a visit!

Love the caves. A pity there was so much wire preventing the same photographic quality I took 13 years ago. Guess this is what comes from inconsiderate people doing what they're told NOT to 😥🤬 Still, extremely beautiful and a very informative and entertaining guide in Dale. Thanks Dale for answering every single one of my kids'questions about the holes, fairy dust and whatever else they came up with this past Saturday.

We visited the Royal Cave at Buchan just prior to Christmas, it is truly beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed the tour and the information provided throughout. Being claustrophobic I was really worried how I personally would go in the cave however Pete the guide could not have been more helpful & reassured me I could easily return to the top at any time . All the staff were friendly & helpful . Would highly recommend & the area itself is great for a picnic afterwards

Royal Cave is easily accessed from the car park along Caves Rd about 500 metres from the information / ticket office. The cave is still active & has some really great structures to see. We drove up from Lakes Entrance and it's a easy 1 hour drive to the park entrance. The drive is scenic and enjoyable with very little traffic on the road. The Royal Cave tour is about an hour long, it's relaxed and the cave guide Andrew was informative and happy to answer any questions. Our tour only had 5 on it & this was a bonus,I'm sure if there were a larger group hearing some of the information & seeing some of the features would have been restricted.

Amazing caves my kids loved it. The path of the cave is narrow I’m not sure if oversized people can fit or no!! Tall people will struggle as well as you need to bend a lot. Toilets are clean too.

Beautiful & stunning!
Our guide was informative & really helped us to understand the context of how long it took these caves to form.

What a wonderful experience my family had yesterday. The tour guide was informative and held our attention the whole way through. We were talking about what we learned for hours afterward. The 450 million year old oyster shell fossil was fascinating to see.
I highly recommended visiting this cave as it really is a wonder to behold. The photos just can't show the true beauty of the place. Everything sparkles too, which the kids loved.

The Royal Cave in Australia is a fascinating underground wonder filled with stunning rock formations like icicles and pillars. Exploring it with a guide was exciting, learning about how these formations were made over a very long time. The lights made everything look amazing, and it was clear that they take good care of the cave. Visiting here is like stepping into a magical world hidden beneath the ground—a truly incredible experience!

The caves are incredible. I’m so glad I went! The guide I went in with was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. An amazing experience. Definitely buy your tickets online a couple of days before you want to go - it can sell out.

We had a wonderful time exploring the cave! It was fairly easy even with dodgy knees…..the stand out for us, apart from the natural beauty of this really special place was our tour guide Twila, so knowledgeable about the caves, she explained about how the caves are so special and how long it takes for the formations to grow, and how easily damaged they are by touching them absolutely engaging, we are coming back to do the fairy cave. 🧚🏻‍♀

Amazing to think how long these caves have been here. Sad that there wasn't more indigenous history spoken about.

Great tour of Royal cave. It's not very large, but beautiful. Can cover within one hour. Maintains about 17 degrees Celsius throughout the year.
