I am Chinese. I have eaten so much Chinese food in my life that it is rare that a restaurant makes me rethink what I know about Chinese food. But first, the restaurant.

This is the sister restaurant to Jade Kew. Jade Kew is a more luxurious dining experience, Supreme J is more approachable. The menu items are similar, but not the same. For example, the Supreme J version of "stir fried vegetables with bamboo fungus and conpoy" lacks the conpoy. However, what is the same is the quality of cooking.

This is Hong Kong style Cantonese cuisine, meaning that seasoning is kept light and the natural flavour and texture of the food is what you are meant to experience.

My partner insisted that we should order the "Siew Yok" (crispy skin roast pork). I don't get excited about Siew Yok any more, I know how to make it myself and nearly every Chinese restaurant in town serves it - so I think it's a bit boring. But THIS Siew Yok was amazing, nothing short of perfect. The meat was tender and still juicy. Pick it up and give it a wiggle with your chopsticks and it wiggles (it's not a stiff dried out piece of meat like most other places). It does not rely on the fat from the pork belly to keep it juicy, in fact the fat content of the cut we received was quite low. I can write an entire essay on cooking this dish, but eating this made me rethink everything I thought I knew about making Siew Yok. I mentioned this to the boss on my way out, and I was told "we have a hot oven, you don't have that at home".

The congee here is also different to other places. This is another dish I know how to make (and so does almost every Chinese person), but I haven't had it like this before. It is loaded up with ingredients, much more than other restaurants. The Century egg was kept in large slices, large enough that the yolk didn't seperate from the jelly. I could even see the abundant snowflake crystals on the century egg (an indicator of quality), so I wonder where they get theirs from because I can't buy eggs like that.

The "Teng Jai Jook" (艇仔粥, another type of congee) had fresh roasted peanuts, jellyfish, cuttlefish, ground pork, and roasted duck in it, which is also different to other restaurants. It is a luxury interpretation of a homely congee that was served on boats.

The texture of both congees was smooth and refined, but both were underseasoned. This is typical HK preference but that's what the salt and pepper on the table are for.

The red bean pancake is the same as Jade Kew's. Meaning, this is probably the best red bean pancake in Melbourne.

Also unlike other Chinese restaurants - this one is clean and the staff are actually friendly.

These guys are totally nailing it. Highly recommended.

I have had only taken away crispy roast pork, coz I was driving past the shop. Honestly, the best crispiest roast pork ever, with juicy meat ! I reheated the leftovers in oven this morning, amazingly, there is NO porky smell. Still very good and crispy. Will book in for dinner next. Keep up the great work.

Excellent food and service, we sat near the entrance so it was quite busy and noisy due to all the crockery being stacked up next to us. Will be back.

Supreme J has the best roast pork - skin is crispy and meat melts in your mouth. All the dishes we ordered were really good - authentic Cantonese. Staff were very friendly and efficient, dishes came out pretty quick. Overall food/dining experience was excellent.

A fabulous restaurant. Excellent menu, the meal, service, atmosphere and really everything else is superb. A large selection of fish and crab from the tanks. I think their specialty is the Peking Duck and it's brilliant. We've ordered takeaway many times from this restaurant (because of lockdown) and tonight was the first time we've been seated inside - it was beyond expectations.

Absolutely fantastic. High quality ingredients, clean, authentic dishes and flavours.

Those in the know realise it is one of the few restaurants that is spot on with authentic Chinese flavours. Even more surprising is that their *insert protein* in black bean sauce is just as delicious as the more traditional whole steamed eel.

This is my folk’s go-to restaurant and they really looked after their customers during the lockdowns. On the service front, the team, from owner to delivery driver are friendly and accommodating.

We had dinner at Supreme J (7 hungry gym junkies after a sweat session). We were all first timers at this restaurants. First observations - clean, good lighting, great spacing and maybe 75% full. We ordered a serve of char siew pork, roast pork, steamed pork with salt fish, Chinese broccoli with beef, clay pot eggplant, chicken ribs with salted egg, ma po tofu. The food was fantastic, portions were generous, tasty and served quite fast. Requests for chillies and tea were quickly dispatched. While most dishes were good the char siew pork is to die. We will be back to sample their other dishes.

Very nice Cantonese restaurant with a range of roasted meats. The beef and black bean is fantastic, tender beef and very generous serving. They have a large range of roast meat including soy chicken ($17 half, $30 whole), roast duck ($24 half, $42 whole), roast pork ($42/kg). Main dishes are all good, we consistently order beef and black bean, sweet and sour pork and short/wonton soup. The standard of food is very high. We ordered dinner ahead over the phone and food was ready for collection in 20 minutes. Note EFTPOS minimum $30 and % fee.

The interior dining room is quite formal with tablecloths and high backed chairs. This is reflected in quite a steep price increase from takeaway to dine in.

Edit: typo in the price, thanks for restaurant for reply!

Love the takeaway crispy pork and rice. Have never tried dining in but not sure about the service you would get...

Our favourite Cantonese restaurant, they serve some of the best roast ducks and seafood in Boroondara/ Whitehorse. Their free delivery service was a literal life (and sanity) saver during the various lockdown periods. Highly recommended.
