We had an absolutely great time on our tour !! Our tour guide Sid was very knowledgeable and kept us interested the whole time, We learnt so many things about the submarine and the crew we had no idea about. Highly recommend going on the tour of the HMAS Ovens

An amazing experience, the guide actually served on the sub and was very knowledgeable.
I would recommend buying tickets well in advance, but you might get lucky on a quiet day.
Not recommended for those who have mobility issues, or are not fond of tight spaces, as it can be a challenge to get into and out of the sub.

As close as anyone will probably get to being in a submarine on this tour, it's extremely informative and is around 2hours long. Definitely worth the time to check it out.

My son and I had Garry as our guide who had formally sailed on the sub. The tour was extremely interesting and hearing stories of what it was like to serve on the sub was great. Highly recommended!

A very interesting submarine tour! It was a little adventure to explore the interior of a submarine. The Submarine tour was led by a knowledgeable and friendly tour guide and lasted approximately 30-40 minutes.

The amount of pax per tour is kept at not more than ten people at the same time. Overall experience was very informative with detailed explanations by the tour guide.

*disclaimer - my visit was actually a while ago before Covid. This tour may be closed due to Covid so check in advance*
HMAS Ovens is an Oberon Class submarine of the Royal Australian Navy.
You access the HMAS Ovens through the WA Maritime Museum by booking a tour which is an additional cost to the museum entry fee. The tour last about 90mins and I'd advise you were comfortable, warm clothing and footwear. It's not suitable for people with less than minor mobility restrictions, or for large framed people, as you'll be climbing up and down steep ladders and squeezing through narrow entry points and doorways.
I really enjoyed the tour, as the guide was a former Navy serviceman and was extremely knowledgeable and ready with answers to any questions.

Great experience guided by Ron. The complexity in a system as a submarine is a proof of the big things humans can achieve when cooperating.

My husband and I went for a tour at the Maritime Museum to see HMAS Ovens.

You meet at the museum and walk over to the decommissioned submarine. We were led by Peter who went through each section and answered our questions. You can have a maximum of ten people per tour.

It’s a confined space and you need to be able to climb up and down ladders and steps. There is a practice door near the meeting spot for the tour. If you can’t do that, then you definitely should given this a miss. Not for the claustrophobic or the very young (babies, toddlers and kids under 5yo).

It’s a beautiful piece of Australian history. At the very end, our guide, asked about the symbol on HMAS Ovens. I believe the “O” stands for the Oberon class of submarines which has a red boomerang because boomerangs always come back and so do our submarines.

At the time of writing this, it cost my husband and I $15.00 each for a 1-1.5hour tour. Wear warm clothes and comfortable shoes.
