Best hike in South East Tassie!!
- 5-6hrs return (leisurely pace with plenty of photo ops)
- The Gap (2nd last lookout) has the best view and make sure to continue onto Seal Lookout to catch some seals sunbathing on the bottom of the pillars. We saw rockclimbers there too!
- Plenty of parking (we went during PH), trail starts at Cape Raoul Trailhead Carpark
- About 10% of it are steps, rest are all gradual slope - suitable for trail runners and more senior folks (no scrambling)
- Slightly fewer people than Cape Huay, but still popular!
- Optional detour on the way back to Shipstern Bluff lookout if you have the time!
- If you are deciding between Cape Huay and Cape Raoul, Cape Raoul definitely has the better view!! We did both back-to-back days, and also felt Cape Raoul was easier despite being longer
Give this a thumbs up if it helps! Enjoy your lovely hike!! :)

A lovely view of Cape Raoul. It was about 3.5 years return back to the campsite to the end after the lookout so keep this in mind. The track was well marked throughout and not particularly tough.

Don't follow the Google map instruction when u choose cape raoul lookout. We need to arrive at the cape Raoul carpark and walk around 35 mins to the cape lookout. We also can combine to walk to another one shipstern bluff lookout if we have time. Need a national park ticket for your car.

Cape Raoul lookout was only a 35 min walk, really quite an easy walk, barely any stairs. The payoff is huge with views of the southern Tasmanian coastline, shipsterns bluff and whales and sea lions. The walk down to the gap is atleast another 1hours hike in so prepare to spend 4 hours on this hike to return back to the car park.
There is a bathroom at the start of the trail. Please pack out all rubbish you hike in with.

Our favourite hike on this trip! It was about 17km, took around 3.5hrs walking time with side tracks and maybe just over 4hours with stops. Beautifully picturesque and while there were a few uphills and downhills it wasn't as demanding on the knees as other hikes with lots of stairs.
Would definitely recommend this hike, try to get out early to avoid the heat! We saw lots of wallabies, beautiful birds, lizards and a couple of snakes so keep your eyes open

A 45 minute mainly uphill walk from the carpark . The view is worth the effort

Fairly easy to get to and a nice shaded walk through a large gym tree forest. I saw wallabies in and out and a snake (don’t worry they are much more scared of us and take off far before you walk near them).
Only about a 30 min walk with rewarding views up the coast. I recommend going further up the coast to cape raoul but it is another 3 hours return.
You will need a parks pass fyi

Well maintained and clearly marked trail. Great views of Cape Raoul along the trail. Walking to the very end took around two hours with frequent stops and walk back wasn't bad at all. Saw some Tasmanian pademelons along the way too!. The second lookout is probably the best. The final one at the cape doesn't have as good as a view. Seal point is worth the 5 min side track

Search for "Cape Raoul Trailhead Carpark" to get to the start of the track. If you drive following this location it will get you to a fenced gate and you won't be able to get anywhere. There's public toilet at the trailhead. It's about 5 hours return hike to Cape Raoul and it's about 3 hours return hike to Cape Raoul lookout. (If you walk fast you could do it in about 2 hours return) it's a relatively easy walk and the view is absolutely amazing. We spotted an wild echidna and a tiny snake along the way 🐍

Started off seeing a 1.5m tiger snake 5 minutes into the full walk so was a little sceptical. But turned out to be one of the best walks I've ever done. Pretty easy just long, most is flat or downhill with only one longer part of uphill on the way back. If you're scared of wind+cliff-face don't worry the walks pretty sheltered until the last 20 minutes. The walk goes through multiple diffrent types of forestry as well as having many species of wildlife. Saw hundreds of lizards from skinks to mountain dragons. A tiger snake and a whipet. Lots of echidna markings as well as owl pellets and a few pademelons. Absolutely gorgeous walk however recommended doing it early morning as it gets quite popular through out the day.

Amazing walks with spectacular views.
Anyone with minimal hiking experience can do the two lookouts (Cape Raoul & Ship Sterns Bluff) takes about 2 hours return and minimal steps, plus a few seats along the way to rest if needed. Very much worth the views! Lots of parking and toilets at the car park.
Cape Raoul full walk takes about 6 hours return and is more for the experienced hiker, definitely a grade 4 trail but mostly flat and easy going.
Ship sterns bluff full walk is also a good grade 4 hike trail, about 4-5 hours return (depending on how you go uphill) Would recommend doing the longer ones over two different days.

Very nice walk. Long but easy. Walk ways were very well maintained. Breath of fresh air, magnificent view. Absolutely nothing to fault.

Good track, easy to moderate 16km return walk. Stunning views and 2 good lookout points.

Get ready for an adventure meandering through the bush, up and down the paths, over logs until the Cape appears before you. Yes it was hard (for me) but such an impressive view at the end.

Involves a 9 kilometres gravel road to reach the trail head. The trail to Cape Raoul is 7 klm one way. The Lookout is roughly halfway and although designated a Grade 4 Walk, the path is well maintained and although a little steep in places very doable with a moderate level of fitness if you take your time. The prize is certainly worth the time and effort. Stunning coastal scenes, cliffs and rugged coastline. Parks and wildlife are constructing new viewing platforms and the photo opportunities are brilliant. Unique echidna chair also to be found along the track.

The photos can't do justice to the place. Spectacular++ It's a long walk. In my 60's and it took 5 1/2 hours but worth it. Take food, drink and wet weather gear and a strong man to carry it! Go early. Do a pee before you leave.

Incredible views for the 45 minute walk (one way). One of the most memorable views in our lap of Tas trip.

This is one of favorite hikes that I've done in Australia and the views on the cliff edge are absolutely amazing. I'd advise anyone to do this hike and it will take approximately 3.5 hours to do the round trip back to the car park depending on your hiking ability

1.5hr return Hike was worth it. Especially sunset seems very beautiful and mesmerising. Easy track, adventurous, little bit of gravel route and easy parking space.
