Amazing service from midwives, especially Effat who showed my wife how to efficiently feed our newborn daughter as it had been difficult in the first 2 days. The midwives definitely go above and beyond in providing service to the mum, baby and even husband (helping husband with caring for the baby).

The views are amazing too.

After a very average experience having my first baby at a public hospital, I decided to book into Mater Hospital for my second back in 2022. Best decision ever.

I had the best care from the midwives and all gave wonderful advice that I could pick and choose from. The overnight nursery is amazing and I've honestly never felt so well rested. It was like a mini-holiday with me and my newborn and it was perfect.

Thank you Mater for a lovely stay!

PS. The room service menu is such a treat - recommend you order the Asian food as I felt it tasted better than the other dishes ;)

What an exceptional service given to me as a patient by Mater Hospital particularly the Hutchinson Ward. With all the mixed feeling inside me having to go through a medical procedure they keep me at ease with very Professional service and care which I can consider over & beyond the call of duty. Big big shout to Eimear and Laureen (Staff Nurse on duty) for their dedication on their chosen field and to Mater Hospital institution as a whole. Thank you once again.

My experience at Mater Maternity was very positive from the management of my birth (particularly the support of Midwife Jeanette during my labour), to post delivery (Midwives Jen and Penny) and the team at special care when our baby needed to be treated for jaundice. There were breastfeeding, physio and going home classes and the whole midwife team was so helpful in teaching us how to look after our baby. I was well looked after straight after birth which aided my recovery and confidence in going home. Thank you Mater Maternity team, I hope to be back one day!

My father James was treated in this hospital recently.
The doctors/surgeons are gifted and skillfull
He kept the food menu to show people how great the meals are
He said ‘if you ever gotta stay in a hospital. That’s the one you want to be in’
He spoke extremely highly of all nurses that worked there
He was in a good mood when I picked him up. This is after a serious surgery procedure
Sounds like a wonderful bunch of people that work there

I’ve always liked the Mater, ever since I first went there when my surgical team had temporary rooms there. It’s in a very quiet and serene area, and doesn’t even look like a typical hospital. It’s not crowded, is modern and clean, and generally has a positive feel to it. Also, back in 2020 while I was having radiation treatment in the city, there was only one nurse who knew how to apply the Mepitel dressing correctly to protect me from burns, and she told me she’d learnt that at the Mater and sounded like she loved working there. These are all the reasons I chose this hospital for my reconstruction surgery almost 3 weeks ago.
I am more than happy with how the whole experience went, and this is coming from someone who is absolutely terrified of surgery. The pre-admissions nurse (either Celine or Selina) managed to stop me crying and calmed me down significantly with her absolutely lovely nature, same as the anaesthetics nurse. Then Dr Georgie Prassas, the anaesthetist, also calmed me down and reassured me just by being the confident, skilled and great person that she is. And when I finally saw my surgeon, the brilliant and wonderful Dr Eva Nagy, I was actually ready for the surgery because I felt so safe and looked after (which hasn’t always been the case with other surgical teams). The relief at feeling so confident before surgery is enormous. When I woke up in recovery, my beautiful surgeon was there and I was also looked after by Mick, who was really gentle and caring. My room was private, bright, clean and comfortable, with an ensuite close by. There was a tv, and a phone to order meals whenever I wanted. The meals were delicious and much healthier than what I’ve seen in other hospitals. I was then looked after by very kind, patient and caring nurses: Jin, Maureen and Swazi. They were lovely and gorgeous, and I honestly can’t fault anyone. Everyone just knew their job and they did it fantastically. I was discharged the next day, and came back two weeks later to have my drains removed. I had another wonderful nurse do this for me, Heather, who made the whole thing stress and pain free. Therefore, all in all, I would definitely recommend the Mater to anyone needing hospital assistance or stay. They do deliver excellent service.

I had an absolutely incredible experience that I will be forever grateful for. The staff members were not only extremely kind, but also incredibly knowledgeable in their field. I want to give a special thanks to the midwives Michelle and Hayley, who were not only amazing people, but also true professionals in every sense of the word.

On a side note, the food provided throughout our stay was exceptional, making every day a delightful culinary experience, so thank so much for the people that we couldn’t see cooking for us, but we could definitely taste their care.

An absolutely wonderful private hospital, with fantastic care, facilities, food, and Catholic pastoral care (for those who want it).

The birthing suites are new and well equipped, including a large tub for those who would like a water birth.

During our stay, we were accommodated in the older and newer parts of the hospital, including the premium suite that has a double bed and city views. All of our rooms were clean and well sized, with generous ensuites.

We stayed during a COVID-19 lockdown, so we were encouraged to remain in our room. The lovely nurses helped to make this a peaceful and pleasant experience, despite the isolation, as well as the ability to order quality food at any time from 6.30am to 7pm from a large, generous and delicious menu.

Highly recommended.

Had our first baby here last week, what an amazing hospital. The maternity ward was out standing, fantastic nurses and midwives who go above and beyond despite their patient load (special shout out to Maree, Anne Marie and Yvette!)
For a hospital, the food was quite good - you order on demand and meals are made fresh. Overall, I had a great experience especially as a first time mother. Thank you again.

We had our baby girl (first child) last week at Mater and the experience was wonderful. First of all the birthing suite were very newly renovated (some pictures included) and the hospital rooms were nice too. We were unfortunately placed on level 2 (rooms are a tad older and no flat beds for dad but I did manage to get a lie flat sofa chair ) instead of level 3 maternity floor but the experience was equally good.

The midwives were awesome! They were knowledgeable, experienced, friendly and professional ! They looked after my wife so well and I couldn’t thank them enough. Thank you again Mater Maternity !!!

I cannot recommend this hospital's birthing team, unit, and maternity highly enough. From antenatal check ups to delivery, all the way through to recovery, the entire experience was exemplary.

I have never met such dedicated, informed, warm, competent, and skilled midwives, nurses, and doctors as those we came across throughout our pregnancy journey, and highly recommend them all to anyone looking to have a positive birth experience.

We absolutely loved our stay there - so much so that we were sad to have to leave and go home at the end of our recovery. The maternity suite made recovery more like a hotel/resort staycation, and the food was superb. We felt so at home, and left feeling so much more prepared for parenthood than we did when we first went in.

Thank you, to all the staff, from SanMich and Luca. We can't wait to see you all again hopefully for baby number 2!

My daughter was admitted for an elective surgery and we received the most amazing, caring and genuine care from the start at admission right through to discharge. The meal options were fabulous, the staff were friendly, helpful and treated my daughter beautifully; putting my mind at ease. The facilities were clean and well maintained. I have no hesitation to recommend the Mater to anyone looking for this type of care and service.

What a beautiful experience I was able to have here. Such a wonderful atmosphere and so taken care of by the endless new faces of the midwives in the ward I was in for my 5 day stay after my cesarean. My fiancé and I were extremely warmed by the level of service and the care that went into ensuring that we and our beautiful baby girl, Aurora, received was the highest and most professional. Who knew the struggles of breastfeeding as a first time mum! Thank you to all the midwives that coached me into every understanding of what my body is capable of and how it works with the needs of our beautiful Aurora.
I can say that a woman’s dignity goes straight out the window after having a baby but it’s all worth it. There was no judgement, there was a great deal of trust and nothing else that I say could actually translate what this all meant to our little family.
I tried remembering all the midwives names, sorry if I left anyone out (I didn’t write your names down so there will be many that I’ve forgotten)!! A huge thank you to Rachel and Antra for your immediate care around me going into theatre and coming straight out. Thank you to Anna, Louise, Marie, Kelly, Nikki, Iveta, Alana (a wonderful lactation consultant), the beautiful midwife with the pink tinted aviation reading glasses, the incredible Egyptian midwife (thank you for your personal touch and humour), oh my goodness and probably like 20 more midwives ☺ The biggest thank you of all will be going out to the precious Jill. What a treasure you absolutely are. Thank you for your care, wisdom and experience. For a woman that was still kicking it at 82 and a half years of age, you’re one in a million. Every midwife that heard I was attended to by Jill during the late hours, completing a 12 hour shift, all the ladies had nothing but incredible things to say about you dear girl. I hope your next adventure with wires treats you well and you recover to your best self. Those little possums are going to love you just as we absolutely loved being cared for by you. Thanks again The Mater! Your care and quality was incredible.

I was admitted for an elective surgery and could not recommend my stay at the Mater enough! What really shines at Mater is the thoughtfulness and care that the nurses and staff provided to me throughout my stay. I would like to thank Tomika, Heather, Kenny and Alyssia for their incredible assistance and the care that they provided to me. The nurses really take the time to explain what they are doing and are attentive and helpful during their shifts (even during late nights or early mornings). The little gestures that they do just to get you to be a little more comfortable really leave a mark on you. Additionally the room service offered at the Mater provides a wider selection of meal options to choose from compared to other hospitals and the ability to order a variety of meals or snacks during the day when needed. The kitchen staff are accommodating and can assist in scheduling your meals as well. Highly recommend the Mater!

It is hard to write a review of the Mater in North Sydney that does justice to the level of care and excellence at every part of this remarkable hospital. I was admitted after a life-threatening cardiac event and firstly was impressed that even late on a Friday afternoon, the whole team was on the job and provided the best evaluation and care. The remarkable thing is that from the wardsmen, to the nursing staff, cleaners, doctors and those involved in imaging, I received top quality care, compassion and interventions that saved my life. It is hard to build a system where every part of it is outstanding: those who greet you, volunteers who visit, chaplains, cleaning staff who take pride in their work and the nurses, doctors and professional staff who clearly have a mission of excellence in care. All this has not come about by chance but from a long-standing commitment to the hospital's mission. This is simply stated on the hospital website: "We bring God's love to those in need through the healing ministry of Jesus." Truly, this mission is one that is being achieved by this hospital every day.

My mother in law was in The Mater for 3 weeks receiving cancer treatment and I can't say enough good things about this hospital.

The grounds are beautiful, including 'the healing garden' where you can sit with your family or friends outside but in privacy.

The food isn't like regular hospital food.. it's on demand like in a 5 star hotel. There are no set meal times. You just choose food off the menu and it's made fresh for you and delivered. Family can eat meals with you for $22 which is very reasonable considering the quality of the food.

The nurses are fantastic, so kind and seem to go above and beyond for make a patient smile.. like when we were allowed to bring our dog into see his "Nana".

Our experience at Mater was fantastic. The care provided by the midwives and nurses was beyond our expectation.
The midwives at the birthing suites were so calming and reassuring.

I highly recommend going to the classes. The baby bath class helped increase our confidence in bathing our baby once we were back home. The night nursery was so helpful too!

Our breastfeeding journey would not have been what it was without the guidance of the lactation consultant Trish. Special shout out to Karen in special care nursery who made such a difference in our short stay there.

I went in to have my hip replaced mid June, I was impressed by the exceptional staff I encountered. From reception till being discharged everyone I met were not only very professional but showed genuine care, and all with a friendly smile. They made the whole experience a lot less stressful.
Thank you.
