Zafferano Trattoria Mediterranea

Absolutely best meal and experience ever! We were told the chef was born and raised in Sicily, I am also Sicilian, and the food was unbelievable. So traditional and authentic, we felt like we were back in Italy. This sort of quality of food and flavours is so hard to find, and have never had anything like it in Sydney. The prices seem expensive, but the value that you get for your money is so worth it. The restaurant itself is so cute, quaint, and charming, and very intimate. The waiters were so friendly, and service was perfect. Amazing night and would recommend to everyone. Perfect for an intimate date night. Will definitely be returning!

Great small Italian restaurant! It’s like eating in Italy, but with the lovely Australian friendliness!

Only reason for the 4 start review of their food is due to the combination of main dish with swordfish. The starter was great (5/5 stars).

I cannot recommend this place enough. Simonè cooks with so much love and Bella and all the beautiful waitstaff bring the place to life. The food is unbelievably good and so authentically Sicilian. We are always blown away by the quality of produce and sense of connectedness you experience at Zafferano

Amazing! I absolutely love this place. The food is authentic and the staff are lovely. I’ve been twice and loved the Saffron prawn risotto, eggplant parmigiana, snapper special and you must have the home made bread with your Negroni. It’s like being in Italy, a little slice of Sicily in Paddington.

Loved the food, wine and atmosphere. We sat outside for a relaxing Sunday lunch and I had one of the special pasta with eggplant and swordfish, it was simply delicious! Highly recommended, I'll be back!

Wonderfully authentic experience. Delicious fresh pasta. I had the calamarata special with cuttlefish, friends had the bucatini special with pork ragú, paccheri with seafood and the seafood risotto- all were fantastic. I’m allergic to dairy and in Australia that can limit my pasta options, but here (to my delight) I was spoiled for choice! I wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone who loves great food and service. And for dessert there are cannolis. Love the Sicilian crockery too. Grazie Zafferano Trattoria!

The food at Zafferano Trattoria Mediterranea is excellent. The restaurant is small, however it has a great atmosphere and the staff are friendly.

We had a number of delicious dishes and its hard to choose a favourite, so I'll mention a couple of highlights. We loved the Panelle and had never had it before. They are Sicilian fritters made with chickpea flour. I'd recommend a blackboard special if it is available again: Ziti ragu d'agnello- which is Ziti pasta with rich lamb ragu.

We had the most delicious dinner here!! The staff were lovely and super friendly and made it a great experience! The food was incredible, shout out to panelle and carrots - divine!! This restaurant is a must visit!

This place is a wonderful date night for anyone missing Italy. The restaurant is intimate, beautifully appointed and the staff are sweet and attentive. Food was delicious, incredibly filling and authentic, the wine well selected and well priced. Great espresso, great evening. Can't recommend highly enough for a post lockdown evening.

Beautiful little spot with amazing food and a very sweet vibe.
We are vegan and the chef/owner was extremely accomodating, he used to work in a vegan restaurant so knows how to create great plant based flavours if that’s what you’re after.
Staff were very attentive and lovely as well.

Spotted Zafferano as we walked past from our Airbnb. This is the kind of place we like. Local, with small menu and atmosphere. We asked the previous night in passing, if we could sit outside the next night. Young lady was so welcoming as she was when we had dinner the next night. We had a seafood pasta from the menu and Nero di sepia pasta from specials. Our friends did the same. So delicious and beautifully flavoured and accompanied by Sicilian wine. Our lovely young lady recommended desserts to share - a perfect ending to a lovely dinner. The balmy night made us feel we were in Sicily and was a special last night for our holiday here. Thank you Zafferano. Our friends are locals and will be back. We will too the next time we visit from Fremantle.

Roberto is an excellent host, this was our 3rd visit and each time the experience has been fantastic.
All the way from Australia and to visit pre show on Christmas Eve Roberto and his team made our experience most enjoyable.
We shall return on our next visit to New York

Cute, cosy little spot with a warm, intimate `la famiglia` vibe - we love Zafferano. Our pasta was cooked to perfection and the Sicilian dishes on offer are imaginative and delicious.
The floor staff are exceptional : genuine, caring, passionate, with excellent product knowledge.
Zafferano offers a dining experience that is steeped in Love.
Highly recommended.

This is the best Italian restaurant in Darlinghurst. Absolutely loved the chef Simone and his beautiful family and the food was excellent. 10/10

If you want traditional Sicilian food, you must book a table at Zafferano. Our entire experience from the moment we walked in to the very end was beautiful, and the food is divine. Thank you Simone and Bella, we will be back!

The food was phenomenal, fresh seasonal produce cooked and prepared to perfection. We asked the amazing hostess to order on our behalf and she did not disappoint. An exquisite mix of vegetarian and seafood dishes, with each one exceeding our expectations. We even had the wine selected for us and it was delicious. We left extremely satisfied and full but a nice stroll down the street is all that was needed.
The staff were amazing, we were greeted with warm smiles, the service was fast without being rushed and the dishes was timed to perfection.
