Wow. So lucky to have tried this Japanese restaurant. It came highly recommended by a friend and I now know why.

The food is fresh and absolutely the best tasting Japanese I've had in a long time.

Great menu options available. Lots of vegetarian options available. I really enjoyed the Kamikaze rolls. Will be back to enjoy the poke bowls and the fried salmon rolls.

We loved this cosy spot in Freo! Lots to choose from on the menu and perfect for sharing with big group of people, or by yourself for a yummy lunch! We really loved the kamekaze roll, and salmon aburi poke bowl!! I'm keen to come back and try the other dishes. Their bentos also looked so good.

Cannot believe this place has been in Freo for 6 years!!!
I have been coming and going through here for years and have never stopped in. This is seriously my loss.
The modern eatery is Japan. Pure and simple. So glad we found it. Can't wait to go again!

Amazing food and service. The food is prepared in creative way with affordable prices. We tried three different dishes and they were all very delicious.

service is so good. for some reason their meat never misses - we got wagyu bento and unagi don and damnnn th meats were hitting

Great service and food. Dining in its busy so book ahead. Many choices on the menu. Bento boxes are lunch menu only. We enjoyed Sapporo beer, which is on tap, and some warm sake. This was followed by some share plates including tempura vegetables and lightly seated salmon sashimi. The venue has an urban japanese feel. It's busy. There are stools for eating at the bar (now with covid partitions). The only negative was other patrons continuously going out the side door for the WC. We were sested nearby and the draft coming in was ridiculous.

I will definitely recommend this fantastic restaurant. I am travelling to Perth from Melbourne. They provided us the best service and quality of food. You can definitely tell how much efforts they spent behind these dishes. Food are fresh and special! Wish I could travel to Perth another time and visits this restaurant when I have a chance!! Well done The Mordern Eatery!!

Lovely little place! Everything is so light and fresh- loved the crunchy salad, aburi nigiris and the katsu chicken roll. The poke bowl was quite average though. Even so, great place and will definitely be going back!

Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Clean and crisp decor. Food was fresh and tasty. food came out quick, however prices are above average - be prepared to spend $20pp minimum.

Modern style Japanese food, very delicious and special ! A lot of people come at dinner time, also most of the tables reserved, can call them first.

Delightful Wednesday night dinner. Staff were super helpful and the food was wonderful.

This place was so so so good. The place was being run all by women when my partner and I enjoyed lunch here in February. We were so happy with all the dishes we selected. They were all very tasty and the chefs took our allergy very seriously. We felt like we were taken care of very well. Even though the place looks casual on the inside you are treated a bit more formal. It was really nice. And we were so happy to have chosen to eat here for lunch on a whim.

The best Sushi I have tried in Australia so far

My favorite sushi place in this city. I have been here several times and everything is always so tasty and perfect. The service is impeccable, anytime you ask a server for suggestions they never disappoint, always surprises me what they recommend as it is usually not something I would try. For example yesterday my MIL and SIL went with me for lunch and they let me order everything since I know the menu. I asked our lovely waitress for a recommendation on a plate and she suggested this hot eggplant appetizer. I am not a huge fan of eggplant so it would not have been something I would have ordered. But it came out piping hot with some amazing sauce that sweetened it a little. It was amazing.

I chose a few rolls that are my go-to. Fry Me to the Moon roll is deep fried to a crisp and has smooth cream cheese and salmon in the middle. It melts in your mouth. We shared the Signature aburi nigiri which was a good selection of the different types of aburi nigiri on their menu. My favorite is the kingfish (yellowtail). We also shared the old favorite Spicy tuna roll which is always a nice spicy fresh one.

This is the first time I've tried the Green leaf roll and wow it is really something! There is no fish in it but don't ignore this one. It has cream cheese and cucumber, and a very interesting orange sauce. Our oink fest was complete with an order of creamy croquette which is mashed potato and I think cheese. It is really delicious.

Definitely try one of the aburi nigiri when you are here. I highly recommend the salmon aburi nigiri. Charred just perfectly on top and your taste buds will thank you.

The restaurant is small and intimate, very cute decor. Probably not the best for a big group as there is not much seating. It is great for an individual or couples, maybe up to four people comfortably. They also have outdoor seating. I think you get better service inside. This place is also on Uber Eats and I have ordered many times via the app.

We have been here a number of times over the years. The food is always fresh and presented so wonderfully.... and...more importantly, the food has never failed to be delicious!!

Amazing food in a modern and clean restaurant with friendly service. The sashimi is so fresh and tasty. The salmon belly in the Miso Aburi Poke Bowl is just amazing. Nearby 1-hour parking available. Highly recommended.

I always love eating at this venue, the food is always such a treat and the atmosphere is consistently comfortable and intimate even when it’s busy. I made a booking over the Christmas period which needed to be chopped and changed quite a bit and the Manager made it all happen, she communicated with me even during the public holidays to accommodate my high maintenance table! Don’t abuse this but how amazing is that?! The staff on the night were amazing and the food was delicious. Thank you team!

Crunchy salad is a must. The chefs have perfected their craft and are putting out some seriously delicious food. Dine here urgently.
