An absolutely sublime dinner. The wait staff were exceptional. I was overwhelmed by the sophistication of all the dishes. So delicious, yet they were not over engineered. It literally was a high-quality meal, with fantastic ingredients -all executed exceptionally well. A dining experience I would go back again again to enjoy! Well done Matteo's 🙌🏻💥

Pretty good over all. The menu did some really lovely modern takes on Italian food. The entrees especially stood out. Best quail and zucchini flowers I have had for a long time. Service was good, really happy and friendly staff trying to keep it professional but up for a laugh. Also nice and calm ambience, It would be a really romantic date night.

Excellent modern Italian food, the pasta was great, very good wine list, plenty of wines by the gladd, also set menu and wine pairing options available.

The service was fantastic, will come again for sure!

Firstly, it must be said, before choosing a restaurant for our wedding anniversary, like many I undertook a Google review & I delved deeper into the few poor reviews of Matteo’s only to note that these same reviewers gave their local McDonald’s five stars.

Now, about Matteo’s.

Oh my, what an experience in 5 star dining. Our thanks to both Massimo and Marcus for your attention to detail and extraordinary customer service. Our wedding anniversary celebration was the five course tasting menu paired with wines. Most unusual to have such wines at the (low) prices paid. This comes with detailed research and a commitment by Matteo to his customers. As someone who knows their cocktails, I’d recommend cocktail lovers visit Matteo’s.

We added to our 5 course tasting menu, the cheese platter and additional dessert wines (Thank you again Marcus your recommendations were spot on). What can we say? It’s worth a visit to Matteo’s just for these.

And now we are home, my husband and I have jumped onto 10 play to re-watch “Hungry” - (we’d highly recommend episode 2 in 2022) as a reminder of what our extraordinary Melbourne food culture and restauranteurs have to offer to the world.

Had the 5 course tasting menu for $160 and enjoyed a good range of foods. I usually have to eat more after having a tasting menu because the meals aren't overly large but this was a good amount of very nice food. Everyone in Melbourne seems to know Matteo's as its been around for a long time and it's for good reason because we had a fantastic night. The service was fantastic, wait staff that had a chat and were just friendly and welcoming. I do recommend

We had a family function at Matteo's on a Sunday 18th February afternoon. We had the private room. Service, food and ambience impeccable. Great selection of wines. Would definitely go again and highly recommend. Thanks to Marcus our waiter - great service.

Absolutely fantastic experience. The food was exceptional with utmost attention to details, elegantly presented and "satisfying all your senses".To start with the tempura Zucchini flower &Teleggio, heirloom tomatoes, dried black olives &basil oil and Duck confit & mushroom pithivier, stinging nettle puree, creamed spinach, porcini sauce ...They were all just exquisite.
The main courses we chose were utterly scrumptious.
We had Pan-fried Humpty Doo barramundi, grilled bok choy, brandade fritters, sea lettuce sauce and Char grilled Victorian Black Angus beef surloin, smoked potato puree, sauteed kale, Bordelaise sauce..Wow..delicious or what.😘👍
To finish our "culinary sensory extravaganza" the sublime Citron Yuzu gelato with strawberry-guava sorbet and coconut cream were to die for..
We absolutely loved it..We are definitely going back..If you are in town i would strongly recommend to dive in this extraordinary gourmet pampering for all your senses.

Matteo’s in Fitzroy is a first class restaurant.

We attended the Sanguine Wine Estate Family dinner as a group of 6.

The service start to finish was excellent.

The starter plate was superb with a great selection of beautifully prepared morsels.

The entree was a Risotto with a delicate mushroom sauce - delicious.

The main was a fillet of perfectly cooked duck.

The dessert a beautiful chocolate mousse.

The accompaniment of Sanguine wine was the perfect way to enjoy such a beautiful dinner.

Highly recommended.

We went here for our anniversary dinner and oh man the ambience itself feels so warm and perfect for a date! We went for the tasting menu and oh my each dish simply blew us over one by one!
Our favorites were definitely the oysters, beef tartare, crudo, toothfish and dessert! Their wine selection was fantastic as well along with a great variety of alcoholic and non alcoholic cocktails. Their service on top of everything was impeccable!! Highly recommend!! PS: I personally am a big fan of dishes with great complementary sauces! Matteo's definitely pleased my fussy palate! The chefs really know what they are doing💯💯!

Food is very tasty and service is excellent. Better for a two or four people experience than any more though (see below). The food was inventive and there was great attention to detail. All the wait staff knew the dishes and drinks inside out.Cocktails were delicious.

Only thing to be mindful of is how noisy the restaurant is in the upstairs section - we struggled to hear what the people opposite and one further along the table were saying, which was frustrating to say the least. They need to install some acoustic treatment to ameliorate this.

I was there for an engagement dinner celebration last night for Ed and Emily. Excellent atmosphere in our roomy private area. First thing I noticed was the exceptional level of service that continued to excel throughout the evening. My risotto entree was delicious and my barramundi main course was no lesser in a taste sensation. The Beechworth red wine was a perfect match. Not all restaurants do well with large groups, however Mattel’s disappointed no one last night. Thank you for doing it perfectly for a family celebration.

This may be the very pinnacle of fine dining. So much so I look forward to coming back to this place because my experience there was truly amazing.

My partner and I went as we have heard nothing but great things and we were prepared for an amazing night of fine dining.

What a time to come because they had their 25th anniversary menu which consisted of the chef's favourite dishes over the last 25 years. Seemed as if the universe had aligned for ourselves or we just struck gold.

So let's get into it. Matteo's is such a popular place but what makes it even better is the ease of finding parking upon arrival and being 6 hour parking you don't feel like you need to rush to avoid a parking fine especially in the City of Yarra.

We were warmly greeted at the door and ushered to our table. Matteo's is immaculate when you enter. The staff are dressed formally and the cleanliness of the restaurant is second to none. Everything is meticulously maintained and the spacing of the tables makes your evening/night one to remember as you don't feel like you're competing with other tables to converse.

So upon sitting we were given the drinks menu and the menu for the evening. Which we had already viewed online. When we dine we normally stick with the tasting menu and sure enough it didn't disappoint at Matteo's. Also I probably should have taken a photo of the menu to show what we had but excitement for great tasting food always gets the better of me.

So I won't bore you with the details and I'll sum our evening up in one word.... Phenomenal!!

Matteo's truly is a beautiful place and if you love fine dining then it's a must try.

I had a wedding there with small number of people.

The food there was really yum. Fish was juicy and delicious, matching really well with the butter dressing source. Wagyu beef was perfect. All my guests love the food.

The restaurant looks way more fancy than pictures on google and Zomato. The owner set up the venue really well. We had a semi-private area and we all sit in one table where we had really good conversation.

Everyone loved the night. What we paid for really worth the price. Thanks a lot for making my wedding special Matteo! Highly recommended!

Always reliable fine dining experience in the north. Calm ambience delivered with great service

The opening bread and butter was delightful, always a baseline barometer for me.
Google labels the rehearsing as Asian modern fusion, who knows why? Its modern Italian Australian.

We had a wonderful time here for a 30th birthday. I very much appreciate the availability of the vegetarian and vegan tasting menus, thanks for that :) I think the menu should be put on the table along with the others because I had to specifically request it. Seems a shame for the chefs to prepare all the food and customers to not even know it’s available!

Both tasting menus were lovely and we left full which is great. Surprisingly, the tomato and macadamia cigar was an awesome little stand out to me and the yuzu dessert was so zesty and delicious. Porcini semolina pasta was tasty too!

I’d have loved a little more creativity with the asparagus dish which was a bit plain. Some extra char.. something interesting in a sauce maybe like earl grey or lavender. :)
The cauliflower dish I think had too much of the pickled component on top because the vinegar was overpowering. The black garlic sauce was very interesting and enjoyable.
My partner’s favourite of his tastings was the crudo.. lovely sauce. Oh! And the sauce with the toothfish said sea lettuce on the menu but tasted a bit of burnt butter caramel and was divinnnne.
Service was professional and the owner was very welcoming and funny. :) thank you for a nice night.

The tasting menu is such a luxury. The vegetarian and vegan menus are not an afterthought; they are just as special and carefully selected as the non-veg option. Great wine pairing with knowledgeable staff. Save room for the dessert!
