Fantastic venue, huge beer garden , wonderful food . Friendly staff and punters .
Only downside Security Mum and her magic torch standing on the stage and scolding the kids for dancing too rough while the main band played.
Otherwise a fabulous night.

We went there on Saturday, we ordered burgers and beer and it was amazing. And they had different species including indoor and outdoor.

The smell in the band room was a bit funky but this is a great venue and supporting awesome local bands & a good menu.

Cosy 'inner-city suburbs' pub... with a nice homely-ish atmosphere, good food & drinks and friendly staff.

There is a small performing area, a beer-garden and, I think, a function space for hire, too.

Worth a visit! 👍

Love the gigs they had there. Astrovillain was the best this Wednesday night. I hope we get to see more of them at the Retreat.

Didn't have dinner there, but the menu looked really exciting to me. Will try some sometime.

A fantastic selection of beers can be found at the retreat hotel Sydney Road. They have live music events all throughout the week and it is all round a great place to invite people passing through Melbourne as it is a quintessential Brunswick institution

It's a fantastic venue the people are nice and it is clean, the music is good and the bar is fast and accurate. The ONLY issue is there "beef" burger (I only put in quotation makes because I highly doubt it has beef in it) tasted like a vegi paddy. Two staff members said it's because of the spices but it's as yellow as the chips and had no taste of beef AT ALL. I think it might have a single percent of beef so they can say that it's a beer burger and charge 25 bucks but I doubt it would pass anywhere for it. (Added after going through the menu) just orded a steak tgey DO NOT KNOW HOW TO COOK IT TO REQUEST AND CHARGE 40 BUCKS WHAT A JOKE. Will be adhusting the stars because thats so unexeptable for the price and such a limited menu at least know what you are doing in the kitchen. Please everything else has been excellent but to be tricked like that was extremely disappointing.

Great place, played some gigs here and had a few pints. Even saw Bailey Smith on the bags here a little while back. It’s a popular joint and for good reason

Amazing pub for a afternoon meal. Or go Friday or Saturday and they normally have a band playing till late. As well as one of the best beer gardens iv found.

Great food - got the schnitzel with gravy. Was HUGE! And delicious. Drinks are good - service was great and epic live music always a bonus! 🩷

Good sound. Good atmosphere. Serve 0% beer which is always a plus.

Great place for a drink at anytime, can sit on the street watch the world go by, or find a cosy corner.

The mushroom burger was ok, but the Brussel sprouts weee absolutely next level. Definitely order those.

This place has probably the most “Brunswick” vibe you can imagine, in a lovely way.
