Red Drum Music Studios

We love Red Drum Music Studios. We have two boys, one who learns drums, and one who learns acoustic guitar, both with Darren. Darren is a skilled, highly qualified teacher with the experience and expertise to teach students at all levels, from beginner to advanced. The annual concert, where students get to experience playing in a band setting, is a highlight.

Being largely self taught over the last 20 years or so I didn't know how much I didn't know about playing drums until I started taking lessons with Darren at Red Drum a few years ago. Now I know a lot more about playing drums and I practice smarter and can play stuff I didn't know I could play. I still have a long way to go but I confident I will get there now. I have a sometimes erratic work schedule but Darren is always able to accommodate me by shuffling things around so I can continue with my study. A great friendly place to become a better drummer!!

Red drum have just been truly wonderful. From the very start when I called to ask about lessons Sarah was incredibly positive, friendly and gave off a wonderful vibe.

When I started the lessons themselves, Darren was just great. It’s always nerve wracking to do a new thing but within a few minutes I was at ease. All the other teachers I’ve met have been similarly friendly and I have no hesitation in declaring all of them awesome.

When I first bought my kit I assumed that I could learn how to play from the internet, and while I managed a little progress, there’s just no substitute for someone highly skilled showing you the way.

If you are looking to learn drums I cannot recommend Red Drum highly enough. It’s been incredible fun so far and I can’t wait to learn more!

Darren is a true veteran in the music industry, and specifically in drum teaching. His deep knowledge and mastery of multiple musical instruments is not the only thing I take away each lesson. His approach to instructing, or as he rightfully puts it "guidance" , has truly helped me to make great progress in my drumming.

I love my drum lesson every week! Darren is a fantastic teacher, super knowledgeable about all things music, brilliant drummer and a funny guy. He runs the studio really well and keeps the place neat and tidy.

Tristan is my teacher and is patient, keeps lessons fun and have found my skills develop well. I had never picked up an instrument and decided to at work he middle of my life. I would recommend getting lessons even if only to have a hobby that is fulfilling and keeps your mind in the moment. It is great to learn something new at this point in my life!

Daz packs in so much for each lesson that It’s wonderful to see that he has thought of you through the week and planned those 60min with you, while making it all seem fun and enjoyable and even making it sound effortless when he says “I don’t really teach anyone, I only guide you or gently nudge you towards your goals” !!

All the instructors at the studio are really approachable with amazing command over the instrument and lovely Sarah who’s ever so meticulous and always available to answer queries, all of who make Red Drum one big happy family.

No regrets about having joined Red Drum Music Studio. The instructors know what they are doing from a musical but also from an educational perspective. Different approaches to improving on the players' technique and speed over all styles of music, paired with great people in a friendly atmosphere. Good laughs can be had, and various group activities are taking place throughout the year, where it's great to link up with the other students.

Darren and his team cater to everyone from beginners to old hands that want to brush up on some of that good RLRR LRLL. The student body is made up of virtually all age groups, from young future rockstars starting out, to more mature players that might want to get into a new hobby.

I have been having drum lessons once a week with Tristan for nearly a year. Tristan is a fantastic, inspiring teacher and I really like his approach. Red Drum studios is a great place to learn in an encouraging, positive and professional environment.

This place has welcomed and inspired Deon "bonham" to grow into a 5yr old stick breaking drummer into a contemporary 'copeland' teenager with real drumming attitude. I do thank D at Red Drum for his patience. Guitar didn't do it for me, then piano and the same result BUT now I have found the DRUMS. Where have you been all my life?! I have made more progress in the past couple of months than ever before with other instruments and the smile I have on my face is now permanent. 😆

Been learning drums with Darren for over a year now, was a beginner when I started and can't believe how far I've come! Would definitely recommend to anyone with a passion for drums, lessons are always productive and fun.

I've learnt guitar with Darren for over 8 years and have enjoyed every minute of it. Darrens personalised aproach has meant that i have developed my skills on a level that i could not have with other approaches. Not only is he a world class player, but more importantly understands how people learn and develop. I highly recommend Darren and Red Drum to any one from complete beginner to experienced proffesional.

An hour with Darren each week these last few years is close to my favourite time of the week, don't tell my wife! It's awesome how tuned in he is to figuring out, and then working with the unique way that I learn (rather than imposing some template on everyone) - it's an amazing teaching style, he's endlessly patient and very insightful. I Have learnt piano and keyboards for the last 10 years with Darren. His knowledge passion and expertise on core fundamentals develops a real understanding of music. This has enabled me to develop my own creativity in expression through playing and an ability to confidently write my own work.
