Waxlyrical Studio of Music

I selected this school on the basis of Bernadette Mather's qualifications and experience. I had specific goals in mind, and I found Bernadette very receptive and helpful. As a total beginner of fairly advanced age, I was nervous on arriving for my first lesson, but Bernadette immediately put me at ease, was very understanding of my personal limitations, and had plenty of practical suggestions for addressing them. I enjoyed the lessons and the assigned exercises very much, and I appreciated the opportunity to have input into what types of music I preferred to work on. While the sessions were relaxed, the feedback was astute, honest and genuinely helpful. Very positive experience.

I’ve been taking singing lessons with Bernadette for more than 4 years as an adult student (over 55!). This was a first for me for both singing lessons and exams and it is Bernadette’s teaching style and encouragement that has got me this far (Grade VII this year). She has customised techniques and exercises that work for me, chooses pieces that best suit my voice and communicates with language and imagery to help me produce the best sound possible. When “the dog ate my homework”, there are no reprimands - just understanding. And we laugh a lot.
