Pound Cafe South Yarra

I spent some quality time at The Pound (AKA lb) some years back, escaping the Como Cinema between films at festival time. Back then I’d have been after a caffeine fix. A more recent visit was for breakfast, starting with that obligatory cappuccino and moving on to fruit toast and porridge, washing it down with hot chocolate. Glad to reconnect!

Nick who runs the cafe seems like a great guy, and cares about his customers, and owns the coffee roasters that supplies the coffee. Highly recommend you pop in :)

Food and cocktails amazing! Meatballs and beautiful home made focaccia a highlight. Coffee in the mornings also a so good. Great local.

Friendly staff, amazing food and the best hollandaise sauce Ive ever had!

Owners are super kind and welcoming. I got myself their signature toastie, it was so good for something so simple. The dijon mustard really helps amplify and balance out the flavours of a regular ham and cheese toastie by cutting out the “greasiness” one might expect. The bread they use also really good and has the right amount of chew and crunch, acting as the carrier for the other elements. I also had a strong mocha to go with this and can attest to the fact they make great coffee as well. Highly recommended if you happen to be in South Yarra.

This cafe became our morning regular over our trip to Melbourne. From our first morning we were welcomed with open arms and warm smiles, not just from staff but other guests in the venue. Did not hesitate to come back every morning during our stay. Every staff member was friendly and charismatic. Loved the outside seating, especially when the doggies were out for their morning walks and joined us for coffee. Cosy and good vibes, thanks for looking after us! Ps. they have the creamiest milk I’ve ever tasted.

Had such an amazing experience and was welcomed with open arms right from the word go. The vibe at Pound was infectious, warm and inviting. My group tried the grazing menu on a Friday night and we loved the meatballs and the focaccia. All menu items were reasonably priced and honestly we can’t wait to go back for more after work drinks and nibbles. Would recommend Pound to any and all.

My absolute favourite local! Beautiful coffee and always amazing service. It’s quieter than the main drag on Chapel Street meaning we can take our doggo to sit outside with us. Must try the ham and cheese toastie with Dijon!

The Pound Cafe is a great place for breakfast. The omelette with smoked salmon is excellent, and the coffee is good. The service is polite and the prices are reasonable.

Absolutely loved this place! Fantastic coffee and delicious eggs Benedict. I had the ham and my partner had the bacon which was absolutely delicious. The service was warm and friendly, making us feel very welcome. Will definitely be back.

This is a well kept secret. Delightful cafe and the charred broccolini salad was so delicious as was the coffee. Friendly staff too. Highly recommend.

Went last night for a few drinks and some share plates. What a delightful experience. Drinks were on point, food was unbelievable. Great spot for an after work drink or two on a Friday!

I have spent quite a few hours at The Pound. I used to live in Toorak and a friend, who lived in South Yarra, would meet up at The Pound. Its on a nice little lane just off Chapel St and so you can watch the busy Saturday shopping crowds walking past but they don't bother you. The reception at the Pound was always welcoming and the on sit dining always adds something special to a get together. Well worth dropping in.

I decided to try out this cafe, it’s right next to my place but never took the leap to try it till now, I’m glad I did.

Had Spanish omelettes and crumpets, the crumpets were awesome with amazing flavours, when I took the first bite I could taste each bit of flavour but then it would melt all together, like it was two seperate experiences/dishes in one, was incredible,

Spanish omelettes didn’t have much flavour at first until I stopped biting the edges and got right into the thick of it, again I could taste each distinct ingredient then it all melted into each other all over again, incredible.

Ontop of that my experience with Shaun and another lady who’s name I didn’t catch were fantastic, it’s not often I have employees at a cafe that had a genuine smile, enjoyed serving me and felt happy to be there, the atmosphere was very welcoming, I felt happy and comfortable being there, thanks guys 👍

Staff were incredibly friendly, went for my dads birthday, the staff went above and beyond to make us feel accommodated. Most certainly will be my new local from now on 10/10

Great local Friday night spot for a beer or cocktail, super affordable menu with great food. Meatballs 10/10

I come here every second day or so. Always order the smoked salmon omelette and have never been let down. Staff are always super friendly and am greeted on the way in.

Don’t know what the other reviewers are talking about referring to the staff not being friendly. Try going to one of the cafe’s up the road on a busy day and even getting eye contact, let alone service.

Great place for business meetings too - tuck yourself in the back corner you’ll get the privacy and comfort you’re looking for.

The food here is amazing, great options for breakfast and lunch and the coffee is awesome.
