Taylor & Stirling (Huonville)

I called not sure if anyone would be able to help me. We purchased a house with existing Outdoor "Security Roller Blinds" and two of them had shut and refused to open. I was concerned that they would tell me that the motors needed replacing, or something extremely expensive would need to happen.....But instead I found a very knowledgeable man who was also very handy with his limited tools in his van (He was only supposed to be having a quick look to see if anything could be done) but instead on a very hot day he got up and quickly rectified the issue on both roller blinds. He also supplied quotes (and great ideas) on issues that I consulted him about - and was very open, transparent and honest in what he suggested (and the reasons why). I will not hesitate to use them again. I am in Geeveston (South of Huonville) and I look forward to visiting their showroom when finances allow the next stage of our homes transformation !!
I found him to be trustworthy, great with dogs and he was respectful of our property and our circumstances.
In short - Awesome service, and at a reasonable price.

We purchased blinds from Taylor & Stirling in Huonville during and Covid and not surprisingly the delivery was very slow. T&S installed the blinds satisfactorily. During the waiting period it was very difficult to get any communication from Roger Lowe at T&S.
We returned to T&S in August 2022 and ordered more blinds for another section of the house. A quote was supplied and accepted with a 50% deposit. There were then some discussions about the details of the install. There was no modification of the quote.
The blinds were delivered and installed in January 2023. One blind was incorrect, and T&S rectified this in March 2023.
When we received the final invoice, it was $824 or 20% greater than the original quote. We queried the change and was told that it was because of an error on the original quote in that one blind had not been included. We offered to meet T&S halfway between the quote and the final price and paid the invoice accordingly.
This is where things got interesting. Roger would accept no responsibility for any errors and in emails was aggressive and insulting. He would not negotiate and insisted that the full invoice be paid. He was unable to provide any evidence of an amended quote and said we were the same as other people who had left negative reviews on T&S in that we were just trying to rip off a hard-working small business. We paid the outstanding amount by the due date as we were away from home and Roger was threatening to break into the house and remove blinds if he was not paid.
We have found Roger Lowe to be a poor communicator who rarely returns phone call or responds to emails. When confronted he resorts to bullying and intimidation rather than negotiation.
I would recommend people shop elsewhere.

We ordered a skylight blind through Taylor and Stirling. The first one that showed up (left outside on the doorstep) was completely wrong, wrong size, wrong side for the electrical component, poor quality workmanship infact not even the brand that was quoted and what we specified we wanted.
We listed all the issues in an email to Taylor and Stirling (Maree and Roger) however their response was very aggressive and it was our fault and we must had damaged it 🙄
After that type of response I quickly asked for a refund and said they can collect their blind.
They continued to refuse and eventually Roger called in to inspect and agreed it was the wrong blind. He took the blind and said he would rectify the problems. After waiting nearly 6 months for the replacement, which was the EXACT same blind, just the electrical component was moved, we again asked for a refund. It was becoming a joke and I filed a civil claim with VCAT.
We had 3 hearings, the first Taylor and Stirling did not provide 'counter evidence', the second, Taylor and Stirling didn't bother to show up, and after looking over our evidence, VCAT ruled in our favour for a refund.
Roger and Maree still refused to provide us with a refund and after 3 months of hassling, I finally went to the sheriff's office to retrieve our money. After this they put an application in with VCAT to re-hear the claim. Maree's excuse for not showing up to the second hearing was that it was her birthday and Roger had been stung by a bee on the face and she had to take him to the doctor.
Thankfully VCAT could see they were just time wasting and refused to re-hear the claim and the original order for full refund and damages was still in place. This whole process started in 2019 and has only nearly been finalised. 4 year's of dealing with this unprofessional, horrible company, particularly the owners Maree and Roger.
I hope this deters anyone using this company again!!!
