The food was really good, plus Susie was so welcoming and friendly! Those eggplants with honey are the best! Will definitely be back to try more of their dishes!

Such a warm and welcoming vibe every time I’ve come here. Susie goes above and beyond to make you not only wholesome flavourful dishes, but she shares some great stories as well. This is a great place for two or a small group for something more intimate.

I read some reviews on the way to this restaurant when getting directions and some are ridiculous and just so nasty!
We had a lovely night in this cute Spanish restaurant. The wine was fab, food was delicious and the service was great. Suzie does all the hosting and cooking and did such a nice job. We were able to chat in a chilled and quiet setting, way better than a huge restaurant where you struggle to hear each other. Great night ! Thank you Suzie !

Thank you for an easy dining experience where we got to have a laugh as Susie and a group were enjoying dining together.

She was very welcoming like we just came over to her house to join dinner and was so easy going.

The food was really well priced, the portions were lovely and both dishes had a nice kick of authentic flavour.

Hopefully will be back in the near future!

All the best in the meantime and thanks again for such a lovely dinner Susie :)

Sid.

I’m so sad that I only figured to try this place out in its last month of trading despite being a frequent Newtowner. Susie, makes all the food herself and she really tried to get to know me and my two Polish mates, where we had some good giggles but some deep chats about life. Really recommend getting the Spanish rice and the potatoes. Hopefully we all get to see Susie prosper in her next venture. These people below giving one star reviews have no empathy whatsoever and don’t know what it’s like to be a sole business owner, ignore them.

It was amazing evening with home made food ranging from spanish bread to grilled prawns. The host spent time explaining the menu and suggesting some dishes ( which were delicious) but more over, the atmosphere of this place was very good - cozy and welcoming. Will recommend this place my friends and family.

We had a wonderful night, came in for my husbands birthday and we had quite a large group. Susie was absolutely amazing, everything she recommended for us was incredible, from the wine to the food, the whole atmosphere Susie created made us feel at home. We couldn’t recommend this place enough and can’t wait to go again.

I'm planning to return here for dinner next week and realised I hadn't written a review about my last visit!
Susie was an awesome host to my friend and I, and being a quiet night we had the chance to have a chat and a glass of wine with her at the end of the evening. The food was fantastic and the vibe of the place was really relaxed and friendly.

Planning to visit again in the coming week!

You feel you are in Spain the same ambience and simplicity in its food. Extremely delicious and good service. Child and dog friendly. The Lady was very accommodating to our dietary restrictions. Will definitely visit again.

Suzi is the warmest host ever. She made us, a group of five hungry people, a massive pan of chicken and seafood paella on short notice even though the menu said it should be preordered 3 hrs prior. I'd recommend getting the grilled octopus and lamb cutlet, we smashed those really quick. We absolutely loved the food, hospitality, and the intimacy of the place. We'd be coming back for sure!

Saturday night we stumbled across this delightful, colourful cute place. We dined on delicious homestyle spanish tapas. The selection of spanish wine was a treat as we had the owner Suzie choose for us. As we ate, we polished off the whole bottle and moved on to some more! and more food.
We shared stories and laughter with another diner, Charlie the Scot, who we invited to our table. We lost track of time until we realised it was after 1am lol!
A great spontaneous night it was! We will be back again very soon for sure GRACIAS!! Frances & Hayden 😍 🍷🍴💖🎻

Outstanding food, beautiful room. Will make you miss Spain, even if you're unfortunate enough to have never been. Susanné is a delight & really encapsulates Spanish hospitality as well as the mañana approach to life. Perfect place for a long, lazy lunch or casual dinner with nowhere to be after. Couldn't recommend the place enough.

Susie, the owner and head chef, ensured that my partner and I had a phenomenal experience when we stumbled across this delicious place a few days ago. A brilliant wine recommendation from her extensive and thoughtful wine list, plus delicious tapas in generous portions (don't miss the eggplant!!), made this a spot that we can't wait to revisit. Thanks, Susie!

Went for our anniversary and really enjoyed all of the dishes! Excellent Paella and beautiful Tapas. The service was fantastic and Susi was doing an excellent job at making all the food, drinks, and waiting on 4 tables all while being really friendly and checking on us throughout the evening. Thanks for an excellent night!!

I'd walked past several times in 2 weeks..took images to drool over till I'd catch this little place that when I did have lunch there last Sunday...the wait was worth it. The images I'd taken were of canned, but pickled, Razor Clam meat. Also a tin of pickled Big Squid Tentacles. I had the option to have them as part of the Tapas servings. I've been to Spain...The Museum of Ham, of parking & traffic snarls where a Siesta is a gr8 alternative being a tourist in a compared to having a big nap. No time to nap folks at Cocina del Barrio...our cooking Hostess gave us a good selection to compliment our wine choices. I had a Malbec that really lubricated my palate. The toasted bread topped with the garlicky Razor Clams was Heaven...then the Big Tentacles within a mixed salad with orange 🍊 segments ...ohh la la..but the real delights were to come...Honey drizzled over slices of Eggplants 🍆 grilled to perfection 🥰 💞 👌.
A true MELT in your mouth experience.
There are so many Tapas selections on the outside and inside menu's...my eye's couldn't focus or decide what to get...but based on what we had...I'll have them all again. Seeing it's winter...the door will be closed...don't hesitate going in..if you don't...you'll miss out. Oh..our Hostess also has Music dedication nights..Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger etc. The Cocina del Barrio survived Covid due to its devoted regulars who supported her. New comers most welcome...it easily accommodates groups of 6 or more(perhaps)..I am a new devoted seat warmer..why not enjoy the delights of Cocina del Barrio !...it's the Paella for me next time...and Honeyed-Eggplant

We’ve been to this restaurant twice now. Each time, we’ve had the tapas menu where a selection of dishes are served. We’ve always left here being full, the dishes themselves are full of flavour and just the right amount. Want to make specific mention of the owner, Suzie who’s been an absolute pleasure in dealing with and has always made us feel comfortable. :) We’ll be back here again.

We stumbled in, no reservation, after a show at nearby New Theatre, a bit late with many places closed, or closed early, because of Covid. We had a great night, the food was lovely including classics like patatas brava, chorizo and garlic prawns. The host was very welcoming, and did a great job on her own cooking serving organising wine seemingly effortlessly.

Lovely venue and gorgeous food - relaxed atmosphere and Suzie is a fantastic lady who really makes dinner a experience rather than just a meal. Will definitely return soon.
