This would have to be the best Australian heritage centre I have ever visited, the amount of history held here from all over Queensland and Australia is astronomical, from local history to major Australian history, was so much fun for the family, and even spotted my wife in the museum, kids had alot of fun and even has a playground for them, the staff are so lovely and made the tour so pleasurable. Thank you very much to the staff today. We will be back for sure.

Really worth the 2.5 hrs spent here!
You walk through early century original train carriages, police station, school buildings furnished with all the early school slates and memorabilia of the era.
Ots is a really large group of buildings surrounding a shady lake setting with seating.
Watch video of people and stories back in time of the shearing strike and origins of the labour party.
A new entry to the Heritage Museum is just about finished in the main street.

The Australian Workers Heritage Centre which is the only national attraction dedicated to celebrating the extraordinary legacy of working Australians. The Centre is spread across over two hectares of beautifully landscaped gardens surrounding a tranquil billabong, which presents exhibits capturing the spirit our nation's workers. Including the Story of the Great Shearer’s Strike 1891, 'Working Women' Project, a 'One Teacher School', 'Working for Health' exhibition, 'Kunwarara' Railway Station and the original Australian Workers Union Hall plus the original Celebrations Theatre from the Bicentennial Tour.
Add this to your adventure list, you won’t be disappointed.

Very interesting look into the history of the outback. Displays are well done and set out nicely over 5.5 acres. Lovely park area. We thought it was worth the admission fee of $20. Allow 1.5 - 2hrs to have a good look.

There's also a spacious coffee shop if you're just looking for somewhere to stop for a break.

Certainly worth a visit with a wide variety of displays even if you don’t think unions are worthwhile. Allow between 1-2hrs to see the well presented displays.

Entrance ticket was valid for 7 days. So we broke up the visit into 2 days. Very interesting place.

Loved this history. Lovely staff so helpful. Needs more signage for those who have mobility issues like myself. I wasn't aware of ramps to some exhibits. Staff very happy to hear about this and it will be fixed.

finally had time to spend in Barcaldine and tour this raved about facility. An absolutely amazing facility with such a variety of displays. A large area with police force, school, workers rights, women in the workforce, railways heritage displays in vintage builds. I was so happy to finally tour this fine facility and am in absolute awe of the dedication of the staff and the people of Barcaldine who put this together.

To the young lady who looked after us our sincere thanks for your courtesy and welcome. You were looking after this extremely interesting centre, selling tickets and explaining everything to potential visitors, being the icecream girl, the shop assistant and whatever was needed! You are a treasure!
We spent a couple of hours here and could have spent longer except the little ones wanted to head off. We explained how this Centre celebrates the people who helped improve living standards for all workers.
Surprised to see the lockup from Toogoolawah feature there, a long trip from the Brisbane Valley! Working Women, History of the Shearers' Strike, St Helena Jail, the Young Un, all set in beautifully landscaped grounds. Forget about your political allegiances and go and visit this wonderful walk back in time.

The area we went to was new to us (we had left a few years back). But everything about it was wonderful, the gift shop has some marvellous varieties of items, the staff were very friendly and helpful, the whole area was spacious and comfortable AND the food was delicious yummo 👍🧡
