Carroll’s is a Old School Hardware store.

Many people may be offended by old’s Peter sarcasm, but he is sure a good heart person and a very wise man to get an advise.

The store is and old fashioned looking one, but it has plenty of tools and general stuff.

I highly recommend and Im sure theres no other place near Darlinghurst which you will get better advices.

I prefer purchasing from Carroll's, instead of wondering aimlessly at Bunnings looking for assistance to find a simple item in the endless sea of merchandise.
I have always found Peter to be entertaining and friendly but above all very experienced and informative. I live in Darlinghurst and can recommend Carroll's as a practical destination in inner Sydney for most of your needs.

Yes Carroll can first appear a bit of an 'old school crank'... but i tend to disagree.The customers who call him rude have no sense of humour. If you can meet his sarcasm with a bit of sarcasm of your own you will soon see a wry smile on his mug...and gain his respect and good knowledge of hardware as well.He won't win any awards for traditional 'customer service' but if you don't mind a bit of sarcastic banter...this guy has it in spades.Btw I believe he also stocks spades if you happen to need one.

I was helped by a charming man and can't understand what all these bad reviews are about. I went in with a towel rail that i hadn't even bought there. I asked if the guy could cut it to size. He cut it with a small hacksaw and wouldn't even take any money for the job. Couldn't have been nicer!! I would recommend to give this place a go and don't be put off by what you read online. These people are really nice and the shop looked well stocked.

Great selection of tools and garden supplies. The owner seems to get a lot of stick from the reviewers here but he actually is a helpful and friendly guy.

Went here today for the first time today. Needed some stuff and could mot be bothered to drive to Bunnings. Googled hardware stores and it was a 400m from my house.
Good range and was helped.
Old school small business. Will be back.

I’ve been here several times and yes at times he may come across a bit rude and cheeky but he is certainly not unhelpful nor is he as unpleasant as all these people writing one star reviews try to make him out to be. It’s a hardware store not a hotel.

This shop is worth a visit.....it has a mix of hardware and home stuff....the manager is an interesting character...enjoys a chat...and likes to serve. He is honest on what he can and cannot provide....as his sign says behind the counter....if you are respectful you are welcome if you are not respectful you are not. Sometimes he's cheaper than the major places....some times he is not....

Come on guys, the guy has a very dry sense of humour. Plenty of robots out there towing the company line. The conglomerates have killed off business's like his..think about how many dumb questions he may get in a day; so he needs to unwind somehow. He knows his stuff, end of story. I have been mocked many times and deservedly so however because of him I have become a better handy man.

It's great to have a locsl, non bunnings option! It's a bit of an aladins cave but they ways have what I need. Owner is quirky and humorous.

A local hardware store not owned by Woolworths, Coles or some other giant! I don't know what all the bad reviews are about, have been here countless times and always walked out with the right gear after friendly advice. You want the full Bunnings range to get the cheapest and nastiest product, go to Bunnings... Selection is obviously smaller as its a small shop but its well curated and they do not sell cheap BS. Support local business, please don't let any of these reviews put you off!

Knows what you need to get the job done and probably has it in stock. I've always found the staff to be friendly and courteous. Just saved myself a long trip to get sticky cockroach traps - and their price is the same as the Bigbox hardware. Shop local!

Ahhh, he's not so bad.
He just doesn't have a contemporary "butt smooching" attitude.
But his knowledge of the vast stock, and the correct solution to your problem, is faultless.
The sheer convenience of Carroll's Hardware outweighs the risk for the thin skinned.
If you are baffled at how to consume his disarming manner ... just laugh at his wicked sense of humour.

It's pretty convenient to have a hardware store in Darlinghurst and the selection and pricing is reasonable for the size of the store.

I didn't find the guys working there rude or unhelpful. They are just a bit surly and old school - nothing wrong with that!

I give 5 stars for the entertainment these reviews provide. I go to Corrolls hardware because I find his rudeness very amusing, something you don't get at Bunnings.

Very friendly and helpful man greeted me and showed me to the item I was looking for.

I'd heard stories about poor service but I want to counter-balance any of them with my pleasant experience.

People don't seem to get his rye sense of humour. I have dealt with this gentleman for many years as a nut & bolt client. I find his abrasive quips quite amusing. Have you ever considered stand-up comedy? : )

It's a hardware shop. They have hardware. You bloody whinging gen Y's want amazing customer service every where you go? The bloke owns a hardware store on William St. If you want a flamin' welcome committee at the front door with a big fake smile, go to Bunnings.
