We absolutely loved the hotel, which has been undergoing a loving restoration.
Brilliant and tasteful styling has returned the old hotel to its former glory.
Rooms are enormous and very comfortable. We revelled in sitting on the expansive deck overlooking Argent Street.
We had the pleasure of being shown through the hotel by the owners - gorgeous!

The dinner and dessert was exceptional. I recommend the Astra, over the Broken Hill pub, which wasn't very nice at all. Meals all came out reasonably together, serving 9 people. Only one cook,1 waiter, and 1 bar attendant Saturday dinner.Considering the number of customers the staff did exceptionally well.

Astra – Broken Hill

We stayed here for 3 nights in the Deluxe Suite. People have noted the car park here as being small and it is smaller than small. It fits 4 to 5 cars. However, I had no issue with parking in the street which at times I did during the day and after 5 pm it’s easy to park nearer the hotel. We were lucky though and managed to get a park in the actual car park every night later in the afternoon. It has to be considered this is an old property and it’s not like there is land to expand the car park. We also did not feel concerned about parking in the street. Always felt safe. There is secure access and the door always needs to be shut behind you.

You do have to use stairs to get into the rooms, so it’s a consideration.

The room was clean and refurbished some time ago, but it was perfect. The shower pressure etc is fantastic. There was tea, coffee, milk etc. The hair dryer was great. The pillows and mattress I could not fault. There was plenty of cupboard space, a couch, a desk and also a split system. The balcony is a large old pub balcony that once may have hosted many people but it’s a little rickety and dusty. We did see a tradie there so perhaps there will be a refurbishment in the future. There was outdoor furniture and a wonderful place for a cup of tea in the morning or a glass of wine at night.

Plenty of power points. The Internet was okay and no signing in every time you came back to your room. You could even access it downstairs in the public areas and outside when having a drink.

It was a quiet place. The location was fantastic and easy to walk everywhere.

We did have dinner at Trinders. It looks extremely grand and once again excellent service. I had the best porterhouse and my husband had the gnocchi. Everything is pricey but that's the way it is everywhere.

I had a salad at the adjacent café and it cost me a small fortune. It was tasty.

I have to say the staff here are so worked off their feet, some of the bar staff are doing two shifts a day due to lack of staff. No fault of the hotel. I want to say to all the staff, you are amazing and thank you for your service.

Lovely relaxed place with friendly staff. Great mix of food choices, we had a nice coffee and breakfast snack in the morning and good pizzas with cold beer and nice dry rosé in the evening. Highly recommend.

A last minute NYE dinner choice for my husband and I, along with our two dogs. We were met with great hospitality from David who was just spectacular! He made us feel very welcomed (even gave our dogs some sausages when they were a bit restless). Thank you so much!! Food was delicious, we’ll be back!

The cafe is great. Great for lunch or dinner or just a coffee and cake in the afternoon. We became regulars there while spending one week in Broken Hill. Although a bit dearer, the attached more formal restaurant Tinders is also excellent for that “ better” dinner experience. Being right in the middle of town was very convenient and the Astra is a joy to go to at anytime.

Stayed at the Astra for 4 nights on business.
Accommodation was generous and comfortable - biggest hotel rooms I've stayed in for a long time with a spa and Foxtel.
Everything you need is at the Astra - breakfast at Soul Cafe with great coffee and Dinner at Trinders Restuarant - best steak I've had in a long time. Or you can have something more casual at Spargo's Cafe like a nice gourmet pizza - something for everyone.
The owners and staff are very accommodating.
Would highly recommend staying at the Astra for any purposes - business or personal. Looking forward to return.

Firstly and most importantly to us, it has a really nice pet friendly area with glass petitioning to keep out the cool breeze. The staff, particularly the older female who served us, were very friendly and welcoming. The food especially the pork belly was delicious. Would recommend to anyone staying in BrokenHill. Will also be recommended to the ‘traveling with pets’ social media groups I follow. All round a lovely experience

The Astra restaurant was outstanding! Best meal we've had in a very long time. We did not stay at their hotel though.

Really friendly and helpful staff. Dogs allowed at outdoor tables so was really nice that my dog didn't have to wait in the car yet again after travelling. I chose the BBQ chicken pizza which was loaded with toppings and really delicious.

We visited Broken Hill on 27th Dec and found hardly anyone open for Business, The cafe (part of the astra complex) was buzzing with people having everything from coffee to full blown breakfasts. We had a simple breakfast and left, we then came back for lunch in their Astra Restaurant which had the A/C on as it was 38 degrees outside excellent service and their burger & chips was great. We them met up with friends for dinner and decided to have a drink at Red Lush with our main meal again at the restaurant at the Astra. The place was a hive of activity again with walkin's and booked people. The staff did an amazing job as Im sure they did not expect that many people. We had the Salmon & the Pork Belly which were both served so excellently. I only saw two chefs in the kitchen so they did an amazing job cooking for that many people from 5.30 through to 8pm when we left. Congratulations to all at the Astra complex and a big THANK YOU for being open when many others were not.

My review is for the cafe as I can’t find what it’s called on google. The ladies serving us were very friendly and went out of their way to get us coffee before their 7am start as we were already there.
The coffee was great and so was the food. The mushroom Ravi deserves special mention. Highly recommend and made our stay in Broken Hill that much better!

We liked the Astra cafe' and restaurant so much that we had dinner there on two of four nights of our stay in Broken Hill. The vegan food options were very good. The staff was lovely, had great advice about our questions in terms of the menu and made us feel so welcome. I appreciated being able to get nice coffee late and also enjoyed some yummy cocktails. The seating ranges from bar over cafe to fine dining options. We loved it!

Centrally situated and modern. Interior is very stylish. Small but adequate range of beers on tap. Food was amazing. It was so good I was genuinely shocked. One of the nicest meals I've ever had. Staff are helpful, courteous and prompt with their service.

The Astra at Broken Hill is a beautifully decorated venue. The food was exquisite. Wonderful work, Chef. The wait staff are friendly, helpful and fun, without overdoing it. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and will visit again when next in Broken Hill.
