The Great Southern Hotel Melbourne

Absolutely fantastic place to stay! Rooms very clean, spacious bathroom & even complimentary 2min noodles.

Location is central with plenty of food options around & places to have a drink on the boardwalk or even go to Southbank/the Casino. 7eleven is just down the street so you can grab treats to get you through the day/night. Close to Southern Cross Station for transportation, food & a bit of retail therapy. Rooms were clean & staff very friendly. You can have a late check out option.

A huge shout out to the staff in the Restaurant who were super friendly & so accomadating. Happy Hour is between 5pm-7pm which includes great pricing on both food ($10-15) & drink ($5-$12)! Normal pricing for meals after 7pm ranging from approx. $25-$40. Food was exceptional & worth the money. $15 big hot breakfast which includes coffee/tea & juice is a great value.

Room was just want we needed, nice and clean with a bar fridge and bathroom. Staff went out of their way to look after us. Location is great

Stayed here from the 19/10/23 through to 22/10/10/23. Check in was smooth & easy. Our room was #342 which was a disabled access room & it was fantastic for one of our traveling companions was using a wheel chair. Location from Southern Cross Station is perfect (200mtr walk) from hotel.
Room was clean & climate control operation was perfect. Beds comfortable & both of them where queen's. We dined at the adjoining restaurant

For the price you pay, this is well worth it. The location is very close to southern cross and multiple tram lines. If all you need is a comfy bed, desk, toilet and shower and a mini fridge, consider this place, it's nothing flash, but you're not paying top dollar for it either.

As always our stay at the great southern hotel was perfect! It was a last minute booking and they were able to accomodate us with ease. Staff are always super friendly and helpful. Can’t wait for our next stay there

Thank you to Taroshi, staff in the kitchen for helping me, other staff refuse to help. I am glad of the cleaners staff assign in my room, they always maintain the cleanliness.
The beds are big my kids are happy though we have problems with the tv. It wont turn on a few times.

I have stayed here a number of times over the years .
The quality of service and professionalism of the staff is bar none very friendly and always service with a smile.
Checking in and out is very quick and hassle free.
Each time I have stayed it’s been on a different level, I have found each time it was always quiet with only a small amount of noise from other guests, definitely worth your money.
The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance to Southern Cross station, flinders street station also close to tram stops as well as Southbank, marvel stadium, Crown, Exhibition Centre, supermarket & a lot of restaurants and close walking distance to the cbd.
The room I stayed in was on the first floor the room was Clean, tidy bed, clean towels, soap and shampoo and was more than big enough for two people.
It was the first time I have had breakfast in the restaurant it was very clean, food was piping hot and the coffee was great again service and professionalism of the staff in the restaurant was bar none.
I found my whole stay here very enjoyable.
I highly recommend the Great Southern Hotel.

The highlight of this place is really the quality of service and professionalism of the staff. Shout out to Michelle for helping me with kind of a complicated issue right in the middle of the busiest and noisiest time of the morning with a bus full of tourists in the lobby. That level of service is greatly appreciated especially since at that moment going above and beyond was particularly challenging.

Found myself in Melbourne unexpectedly a day early, and got on to booking dot com

A two bed room for $112 a night, how bad could it be, by being in Melbourne, it'd have to be of a certain standard.

Absolutely STOKED at the obviously standby rate because the room was absolutely top notch and it was really an extra day tacked on to the start of the holiday.

I've only even been in Melbourne for three days of my 58 years alive, but I'd definitely go back to the Great Southern next time I go to Melbourne, for sure.

What a little gem of a hotel in the city of Melbourne, just steps away from Southern Cross Station and where the Airport Bus stop is located. I always stay at this little hotel when I visit Melbourne. The staff are friendly and the rooms are clean and very affordably priced. Highly recommend! AAA +!!!!

My crew and I stayed from Tuesday 9/1/24 to Sunday 14/1/24 in rooms 341 - 345 under the first name "Batiraishe"

As someone staying in room 342, I have to say that I was quite happy with the care received from reception and cleaners in the hotel. From issues such as overflowing bins or lost key cards, the hotel staff was efficient and patient in providing us with all the help needed. The beds were comfy, and rooms were spacious

Special mention to my guy Patrik from Slovakia! - Making sure we were ok and seeing me off for my morning jogs!

I had a lovely stay. Staff were very helpful, nice clean room and it's in very convenient location for southern cross station.

Mum and I were more than happy with our stay here. It's not 5 minutes from Southern Cross station and very close to a convenient store (7-Eleven). The gentlemen who served was very helpful and kind while checking us in and happily downgraded our room to a two bed instead of three as a third person fell sick the of our stay and three beds were no longer needed. The room was lovely, reasonably priced and came with everything needed for a nights stay. our check was easy and the lady who did so was lovely as well. would definitely stay here again and highly recommend to anyone looking for a good hotel.

AMAZING find, excellent location. A very sweet and low key place to stay. After our 7 month booked in advance accommodation cancelled on us 2 hours before we flew to Melbourne, we were frantic as PAXAUS was on and we knew any decent accommodation would be gone. Booked this place on the way to airport. The staff were amazing and very understanding to our last minute booking and needs (we wanted 2 room next to each other)

Also the Pizza place next door is fab !!!

Absolutely loved my stay here. Checked in two hours early without any extra payment ❤ and surprisingly got a great room with a view of the main Street. They need to do little more maintenance on the plumbing but other than that I have no complaints. The hotel staff were all very nice and accommodating.

I just stayed two nights. Great location with friendly, attentive and accommodating staff. Next time I need accommodation in the CBD this will be my first choice.

Rooms and facilities were spotless, bedding configuration was completed with no issue which we appreciate. Breakfast was good for $15.00. Location is great with onsite parking.
