What a lovely collection of items, and all pretty reasonably priced.

A lady staff was so rude and racist to my friends. This happened a few weeks ago.

My friend was taking photos of the antiques in the shop. She did it because there wasn’t no photo sign or otherwise she didn’t do it.

The lady was serving other customers and when she was done with them, she asked my friend “how’s your English?”

My friend was surprised and didn’t know what to react because she didn’t know why she was asked how her English is. My other friend then answered that both of them speak English, and the lady asked another question “which of you speaks better English?”

She then said to my friend “Then you should know how to ask me for a permission for photos in English before taking photos”.

My friend apologised and responded that she’d be more than happy to delete the photos. And the lady said “oh no it’s fine, I just wanted to teach you how to ask if you can take photos in English” in a very rude way.

Maybe it wasn’t good to take a photo in the shop. However, all she should’ve said was “I’m sorry but no photos in the shop” and my friend would’ve stopped and deleted the photos. But the staff’s racist attitude toward international people - judging someone’s English ability and trying to “teach” you - made me so angry. It was just so rude and disrespectful. There’s no need to be like that. I don’t think any non-English native speakers should be treated like this.
