THE BIG ROOT

We arrived just as the kitchen was closing, but the staff were lovely and kind enough to toast some focaccia and serve some drinks. Very reasonably priced and some great wood work in the area at the back. Indoor and outdoor seating available, and great for takeaways.

This is about the Big Root (er..rrr actual tree root 😏). The Cafe attached is called Mingling Waters Caravan Park & Cafe - so my review for Cafe is separate. This is a quirky retail space with crystals & one man's hobby possibly business of carving & shaping massive trees roots into eye-catching sculptures. It is on the left of the entry into Cafe. The most elaborate & stunning huge root sculpture is housed in a corrugated double pyramid. Prices for crystal & sculptures are displayed but it is just a great exhibition to view. Check it out👍🏼👍🏼

Amazing cafe with awesome massive pie and muffins with a cup of Tasty hotchocolate. Please make sure to explore their lovely collection of amazing rocks and root carvings. Dont fotget to have a peak of the sun god wood root sit outside through the cafe.

We were driving through town and stopped for burgers and chips. The burgers were some of the best we've ever had. There was a generous amount of meat in the two patties. The toppings were a little unusual for our American taste but were delicious. The chips that came with the burger were crisp and well seasoned. The amount of chips was also very generous. We would highly recommend stopping at The Big Root and enjoy! The added surprise was the actual "Big Root" display which was impressive!

We had lunch before we went to visit the Old Gippstown Heritage Village.

Stopped for lunch. Outstanding food. Got a lot burger with rosemary chips. Had toys and a high chair for the kids which was a bonus. Worth a stop

Hands down this is one of the best burgers I have ever had. If you are driving by, make sure you stop for a meal.
The fried jalapenos are the end of the world too, friendly service, nice vibe and some art on exhibition too.

We had work in Lake Tyers for a few days and went to The Big Root for lunch. I had the Japanese Burger. This thing is to kill for!!!! Easily the MOST flavorsome burger I've had for a long long time! Lovely owners who took the time to chat and shared the recipe for the mayo. Highly recommend you stop and have a feed.

Great place to stop for lunch. We ordered burgers and they were delicious! Service was quick. The natural tree root sculptures were great to see. Definitely stopping there again next time I'm around.

Major contendor for best burger I've ever had; honestly. It was MASSIVE and so delicious I would 10/10 recommend! I live in the metro area of Melbourne and would drive all the way there just for the burgers at The Big Root

One of the best pies I've ever tested. If you are looking for a moist pie but not soggy this is the place. Their tasty pies is a must try if you travelling towards Lakes entrance.

We only found this place through a recommendation from the owner of the Water Wheel Beach Tavern at Lakes Entrance and I'm so glad that he made the effort. For most place having excellent coffee, food and service would be enough, but this place has The Big Root to set it apart from the competition. I'm not going to post any pictures of The Root because it needs to be seen in person to appreciate its splendor and awe. It is amazing, I kid you not. In fact, it being on the big thing list belittles its grandeur.

A GREAT place to stop, rest, grab a coffee and learn about some incredible natural creations (trees and various rock/crystal formations).

A great stopover just near the heighway for top coffee, bacon and egg rolls and scretching the legs. Friendly service. Will come again!
