Stawell's New Hong Kong Chinese and Malaysian Restaurant

An experience that takes you back to the 80s with small town charm and big tasty dishes. Grab a 6 pack of Melbourne stubbies and dine in the dynasty of Stawell’s finest dining experience. I will be back and I will take my mate Shane with me. 5 stars!

This venue is indubitably the shining gem in the cultural crown that is the Stawell town centre. The decor, though minimalist, accentuates the natural acoustics of the building; there's no difficulty in hearing the conversation at your table, or any other table for that matter! A truly social communal dining experience.

The food has a very authentic home- cooked feel to it. Asian inspired cuisine, with a strong Aussie influence that is sure to not alienate any who might have a more sensitive palate.

So far, this has been the undisputed highlight of my visit to Stawell, and I'll be talking about the unique charm of this little eatery for some time to come.

If I had to give any notes, I would perhaps suggest the bathroom could be enhanced with some way to dry one's hands. A toilet door that is capable of closing would also be a boon, but maybe this place is just ahead of the times on eschewing primitive cultural taboos. I applaud their brave stance.

Love the Chinese food in Stawell’s New Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant! Authentic dishes with good prices. The food was great, I love the won ton soup, like the highest quality home cooked meals without the over the top insta ready presentation. Service was fast, attentive and friendly. Highly recommend!

This is by far the best Chinese food I've ever had & I've sampled Chinese food all over Australia! The restaurant itself looks slightly run-down but looks are deceiving- the food is absolutely amazing! It was packed full in the restaurant, there were other customers lining up at the counter & the phone was ringing off the hook. My order of pork with vegetables & fried rice was so good I burnt my tongue because I ate it so quickly! Definitely worth the wait & highly recommend!

Food was tasty! Dare I say, reminiscent of my time growing up in South East Asia.

We ordered their special fried rice, fried kway teow, lemon chicken, sweet & sour fish (I’d give them an extra star just for this dish!) and garlic prawns (pictured).

As you’ll read in the ratings, their deco hasn’t been updated in a long time...unless they are going for the late 80s, early to mid 90s look and vibe.

Would visit again.

Additional note: It was chilly in there. It would have been a nice touch had they had an extra heater (or two) turned on.

Gotta be the best Chinese food I've ever had!! Had takeaway. Restaurant looked a bit run down when I picked it up. No atmosphere- but man... can they cook!! 10/10. Would recommend 👌

Really friendly people, fast food service and a bit to quiet and Comfortable chairs.

We had smorgasbord .. I think they only do on Sundays. It was really good. I had never tried rainbow beef that was nice. BYO drinks. Take away was very busy.

Delicious and the service was fantastic. Definitely recommend even though it was busy due to mothers day and the phone was constantly ringing the staff all had smiles on their faces and well mannered.

Really not bad for “remote” Chinese restaurant. Maybe we are tired and hungry from Grampians whole day exploring. The food and Taste were up to standard. Happy tummies we had.
