I love grilled cheese sandwiches and this place absolutely stole my heart. We had the pimento and reuben. I wasn't too big of a fan of the reuben but it was very different to that of traditional grilled sandwiches. The pimento was absolutely divine. Cheese was gooey and the crunchy exterior held eveything inside very well. 10/10 would go back again to try the other ones 😋

I had been eyeing this cheese shop everything I visited the Prahran Market & I finally decided to get the Special Fondue Grilled Cheese Sandwich. Perfect--delicious blend of cheeses, great balance of other ingredients, and perfrct bread to filling ratio.

The place to try for Grilled Cheese Sandwich 🥪🥪

They have a vast variety of cheeses and you can always stop there and grab a grilled cheese sandwich. I tried the Fondue Special and it was spectacular! 🤤 It's the perfect side when you go to the market and grab a coffee ☕

I definitely need to go try all the other flavours they offer.

Why? The only French toastie place I know that exists in Melbourne and they’re tasty AF

When? go to on cold Sunday morning, hangover or when I am dependant on a tasty bite.

Date? Will you Brie mine? Nice little place for a quiet easy date to take for a small bite and cup of coffee. 10/10 datetastic

What?
Toasties are sold along side French cheese from their deli with great customer service at decent prices considering your toastie contains incredible French cheese. Seasons, Meat and vegetarian options. Get there early before popular toasties sell out. They also have a special sandwich which I did as takeaway to eat later. Long time deli customer of their excellent range and well priced cheeses.

How?
Weekends I go - There’s a bit of a queue at peak times but not a long wait. I grab coffee from Market lane right across while waiting for the toastie (excellent coffee by the way).

Cheese fondue is to die for! Reuben sandwich is somehow too heavy, every component is actually good but also rather punchy so when eaten together it’s like a fireworks.

Really live up to their name! We had the fondue toast and it was phenomenal. The right amount of salt was added into the toast which most places fail to do but this place, nail it.

The best cheese shop I’ve come across. Their selection of French cheeses is extraordinary and their staff warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable.

What an experience - talented and knowledgeable staff coupled with amazing toasties in a foodie paradise! 😋
Located deep inside the Prahran market, is this artisan oasis - I enjoyed the Mac Attack and it was cooked to perfection and lived up to its name. Part of the Friends of Fromage series - Anthony Femia's creation is mot to be missed. They may be a tad pricey but worth every bit! This place truly is the "Chapel of Cheese!"

Best Toastie I’ve ever had!

I don’t know what it is but the bread, the cheese everything included just makes their toasties worth every cent. I had the americano with onion, parsley and cheddar and it was to die for. It was everything I needed on a cold day at the market. Not o it that but the connected cheese shop has a massive variety so you can make your own at home.

Wonderful little set up too inside the market and if you’re in the area I would give these guys a try. Very worth your while to check them out.

Without doubt the All American is the best toasted cheese sandwich I’ve ever had, topping Borough Market in London. Crispy outside, gooey flavourful inside and not so hot that you don’t burn the inside of your mouth with molten cheese, it’s perfect. The only problem is all the seating has been closed off at Prahran Market so there I am standing up whilst eating the world’s best toasted cheese sandwich. Looking forward to trying the Rueben

The best cheese toasties ever! Don't take my words for it. Please please please go and try them for yourself. A selection of different cheeses, each just as delicious as the next. Crisped yet soft buttery bread rounds up this amazing creation.

The cheese selection is curated and great quality, but it’s the staff that make the difference.

They’re knowledgeable on the product AND how to use it. Went to get some ricotta for a ravioli recipe, got chatting with one of the crew who suggested a stracciatella/ricotta recipe blend for similar lightness but extra cheesy stretchiness. (Spoilers: the changed recipe was a hit).

My unabashed favourite cheese emporium in that wonderful market!

Generally speaking, I don't like toasties. Too cheesy or greasy most of the time. 0 flavours other than just cheese. I've always viewed it as a slightly better alternative to fast foods. Nothing more than that.

Now, that was until I tried the toasties from Maker & Monger. Their toasties were of a different dimension. Arguably the best cheese toasties in Melbourne. We grabbed All American and Truffle Mushroom toasties but definitely liked All American much more. The quality of the cheese was out of this world. Fresh, gooey melted cheese oozing out of thick toasted breads. Just delicious. A must-try place. Can't wait to go back and try their other signature toasties!

Superb cheeses, amazing variety, fabulous staff. Very competitive prices. This is now our go to place for cheese. It was well worth the trip to Melbourne to discover this little gem.

Review: everybody who visits Prahran market MUST eat this grilled cheese sandwich. while the store opens at 7:30am on a Friday, cheese sandwiches are only available from 8am onwards on account of ovens needing time to heat up.

Logistics aside, this is a classic example of simple but hearty brunch options in a melbourne! I always pay a little extra to go for the fondue special ($15) which includes ham. The melted cheese complements the ham and toasted bread - the types of cheese included makes it taste distinctly different from the ones you make at home.

If you have a smaller appetite like me, it’s possible to share the sandwich with your partner (this also gives you the opportunity to eat other things in the market!). A little tip: always add a bit of Tabasco sauce for that added “kick”. In the past year, I’ve come here at least once a month. A clear #citaymusteat 🤩

Finally got to visit this place. The cheese sandwiches are superb.

We had the Reuben Sandwich and the Swiss Fondue Special Sandwich.

The Reuben tastes very savoury and the sauerkraut nicely offsets the richness of the cheese.

The Swiss Fondue is made from gruyere and is very flavourful and rich.

Its so adorable how people who give Maker and Monger 1 star want to keep the place under wraps. I know buy posting this review I will literally be telling Melbourne and possibly the world how AMAZING and TASTY Maker and Monger toasties are but honestly i just can't keep this tasty secret to myself. Now I'm lucky enough to live in the city of Melbourne and indulge in these crispy, salty and hangover cure treats often, but if you happen to find yourself near (make an effort people) to Parhran Markets seriously you WILL be missing out if you don't taste one of these delectable delights of the senses. Also Maker and Monger are my go to for delighting party guests with a "whipped up platter of my own making", aka sure I made this ;). So now the secret its out I'm sorry not sorry cause we all deserve a little bit of tasty in our lives. xx

I visited for International Grilled Cheese Day and received a free Mac Attack toastie + Capi drink. It was absolutely incredible. Despite the fact they were giving these away to 100 people, they made each of them with love and care.

The sandwich was perfect in every respect, from the creamy, flavoursome Mac & cheeses, to the sprinkling of salt flakes to finish. The blue cheese dipping sauce was impeccable – not overly strong, yet still flavoursome.

The staff were absolutely lovely and welcoming too. They have made it onto my Favourites list!

I had my Xmas present a day earlier!
I bought some Fontina valdostana yesterday and they charged ne extra by mistake.
So, I returned today. Everyone was so busy....but they paused.
They were truly apologetic.
They refunded me and gave the fontina for free.
My Xmas present? no, no..not the Fontina.
It is their honesty.
Buon Natale Maker and Monger!
(...and yes the best cheese in the country)
