Macrossan Park Camping Area

Great big area for people to freecamp, bit of a walk to the Burdekin River but it's nice. There are toilets, cold showers and garbage bins. Area big enough to hold 100 of more vans, top spot

Went to see if we could stay off grid with our deep cycle battery.

Awesome area which is massive! About 100 setups here last night, but very spacious if you're not part of the sardine pack and could fit another 200 more. Everyone was super quiet and respectful.
Flushing toilets and gravity fed tap water, BYO paper.
Bout a dozen wheely bins almost full so common sense tells you to take with you what wont fit.
Beautiful sunset and sunrise with the cloud cover and some tiny roos dotted around at dusk.

In terms of free camping this can’t be beat, cold showers, toilets, bins and the ability to have camp fires, all beside the shores of the Burdekin River and the railway bridges.

Tip: Some people parked underneath the bridges to camp, it looks cool but probably isn’t so great at 5am when a freight train comes rolling through!

Nice place to visit, toilets were clean and tidy as was the showers.

We did FWD in the sand up to the Railway Crossing. Was a fun day.

Non-potable water on site. Some shelters with concrete picnic tables and wood fire barbecues. Toilet block has no lights, and cold only showers.

For all that, it has absolutely amazing night skies. Minimal light pollution gives you phenomenal views of the stars, particularly with no moon.

You can swim in the river, but make sure it isn't stagnant.

Service station 1km across the bridge towards Charters Towers has unleaded and diesel, ice, cold drinks, hot food, some essentials (coffee, sugar etc).

Lots of space, handy to Charters Towers. Good for an overnight stop.

Found this an ideal spot to free camp. 30 other vans 22 July 18 but lots of space for people to spread out. Picnic tables scattered around, ladies had 3 loos and a cold shower for those brave enough. Telstra mobile reception outside toilet block one bar, bit erratic but could still use, then found wasnt bad further down along the lower area running alongside the river at our van site. Set back from the highway but of course still some traffic noise as located between highway and train crossing, but was ok.

Great place for a free camp. It's a shame some people pull branches off trees or cut them off for open fires. Bring your own wood and do the right thing please

Camped there one night. Really enjoyed the sunset. We also watched numerous lightening in the distance during the night. Warm and quiet camp site and there were no flies or mosquitoes!!

It's quiet with a fantastic view into the bushland if you camp away from the river where most people are. Facilities are ok, it's free so be happy with what you get.
