Have bought a new wool jumper and a new cardigan August 2022. The cardigan is sweet as, went well in Sydney when meeting my favourite surfer of all time Tom Carroll over 2 days for personal meditation initiation. Love the style. Thanks BOB.

I’ve had the pleasure of having a couple boards shaped by Bob McTavish. Absolutely stoked with the attention to detail. Thank you Bob, Ben, Nico, Reed, Alonzo and anyone else I’ve missed. Thank you McTavish 🤙🏽

So many beautiful boards attended to by patient and welcoming staff. Even if you just want to have a look and dream of some classic lines. Great spot (for surfboard peeps)

Very happy customer for years. Had the honor of buying a few boards of the Legend that Bob is himself. Awesome boards and clothing. Great customer service in a situation where things didn't work perfectly initially.

I wish I could give more than 5 stars (see below).
Without doubt the most helpful surf shop I’ve ever encountered.

I had been pondering a new board but was unsure of the direction I wanted to go. Tom and Dave bent over backwards to assist my search and I’m rapt with my decision.
There’s something about this surf shop I can’t put my finger on. It’s almost like going over to a mates place and talking about surfing/boards/travel while having a good coffee. It’s also somewhat of a destination surf shop - people travel from all over the world (and Aust) to visit and this makes for great conversations. If I could sum up McTavish Byron in one word it would be genuine (however, soulful also springs to mind).

From a genuine conversation over an early morning perfectly made barista coffee with Saffi, to discussing how I can best improve my surfing and get more stoke with Tommy and Dave, you’re guaranteed to walk away genuinely happy.

Even as busy as Ben was, he also still happily came out of his shaping bay to warmly say hello and have a brief chat to me and my family (including my 6yo).

The craftsmanship and finish of the boards is sublime.

Serious Google rating - 6 stars (and then some). Happiness/stoke factor - 10 stars :-)

PS A big thankyou to my beautiful wife who gifted me my custom ‘grail’ board that will become a generational gift to my son to share the stoke. Photos to come - yew!!!

Had one custom board made and another off the shelf. This has by far been the best customer service experience I've ever had. Tom Dodd gave expert advise which board to chose, then updated me every few days about progress, even sent regular pictures and then moved heaven and earth to get the boards in time send to Melbourne. Best in class responsiveness, pro-active customer service and just thoughtful and friendly all around. Super stoked!

I would like to share my experience with McTavish surf shop and staff at the Byron Bay factory/store. I am 56 years old and been in and out of the surf over the last 45 years. Yesterday I called the store (live in Coffs Harbour) to seek advice about buying a new long board and the latest trend/technology and design. The friendly assistant advised me that the staff member to get the best advice from is Dave and we arranged a time to call back. Dave was experienced, incredibly helpful and polite and we discussed my experience, surf breaks and expectations for some time and he provided technically based advice and best fit choices of board to consider. When my wife Lindy and I I arrived today (Sunday), another experienced staff member -Corey, had two boards already prepared for me plus others in the factory to consider. I really liked the quality and finish of all the boards and there was no hard sell to choose an already stock board. By lunch time I had an order in for them to make me a custom board that had the colours I liked and a modification to the thickness. I am very happy that I am getting what I want and wish to congratulate Dave and Corey on their exceptional service.

McTavish is an excellent company. Apparel is always the very best quality, comfortable, easy to wear and very good attention to detail. Finally I decided to pay the extra dollars and buy a board. The service from Tom was patient, informative and personal. Overall, every experience with McTavish has been the very best. Thankyou!

I have ridden Bob's boards off and on for over 40 years and it was because of his intimate knowledge of surfboard hydronamics, I was able to progress to an almost professional level.
His passion is..... "insanity harnessed" as he gets so excited whenever he talks surfing and boards.
He is one of a kind and anyone that talks with him just gets how special he is.
That said..........
The other reason I'm writing this is to say that I've purchased quite a few clothes from your website and have always found them to be of the highest quality.
They are reasonably priced too.
The speed they have been delivered is phenomenal.
Just keep doing what you do in the way that you do it, as you do it well.

Just bought a new board here 🤙.
Lads at the shop were easy as to deal with, asked and listened to what I needed in a board. Then spent the time to show me and explain each board that would suit my skill level, weight and ambitions.
Great coffee and chill place. Couldn't recommend higher.
Cheers Corey and lads @ Mctavish Surfboards.

Best surf shop in Byron, if not the country!

From the quality of the boards, apparel and the coffee, to the staff. McTavish is for mine the best surf shop in Byron Bay, if not the country.
On the surface, McTavish may seem like any other surf shop/factory on the east coast, but dig a little deeper and you'll find not only a hugely rich history in surfing, but also a deep desire to be sustainable and environmentally conscious. The packaging, the swing tags and even the wrapping of your fresh pair of boardies are all either recycled, recyclable or biodegradable! You can use the string on the tag for your legrope and they also sell hemp products. Their postage bags are even made out of some weird concoction of recycled and biodegradable material. It's companies like this that will stand the test of time and keep loyal customers (such as myself) coming back year after year. Well done guys!

My wife and I came in from the east coast of the United states to visit our son. I have not surfed in years since our boys have grown up. I was not sure about all of the details of longboards today. Tom, a really nice young man, did not treat me like the kook that I am and hooked me up with a beautiful 9'1 Fireball EVO 2. I had no intention of spending $2k on a surfboard, but this board is ART and rides like a dream. These guys are great. I'd buy a lawnmower mower from them if they made one. Thanks Tom.

McTavish is a must visit when in Byron - not only do they have the goods you'll love, their service is second to none. Nothing's too hard for Tom and his team, and if it's not right they'll fix it. 11/10!

If you love all things surf you can't drive by without stopping in to look at all of their surfboards and their range of apparel. Good little spot in the Arts and Industrial Estate to sit for a coffee.
