Timeless Dixon Street Chinatown restaurant with all the classic Cantonese classics. We arrived after 8:30pm on a Sunday and they were reasonably busy, friendly efficient service and nice to sit outside. It felt like we were in old Hong Kong. We ordered and the food arrived in less than 10 minutes.

We always talk about comfort food. This one might be the best of the best - congee. Eating congee always triggers some level of healing nostalgia for me. Congee is what my parents used to cook when my brothers and I were sick. When they themselves were growing up back in their home country, mum and dad used to eat congee everyday for breakfast.
They weren't particularly wealthy growing up, so as a child I had thought congee was a poor man's food. But over time, you realise how good congee is as an aid to digestion, as a medium for hydration (because of the water absorbed in the rice grains), and to reduce inflammation. That's why congee was always whipped out when we were sick, and that's why plain rice congee is the breakfast of choice by many in eastern Asia!
Super Bowl in Chinatown has for years been a go-to for congee outside of home! Morning, lunch, supper, you name it. They do plain congee, but there's many other types that you can try here including seafood, beef, kidney and liver, and pork blood jelly. My favourites though would be the century egg and lean pork, and the fish fillet congee (which we ordered this time). It comes with a deep fried dough stick 'youtiao' to dip with. My tip would be to not dip the whole thing in at once. Maybe just the tip. That way, you get a bit of the stick softened by the congee, soaking up the flavour, and the rest of the stick remaining crispy. Textural excellence.
They have a nice sweet and sour pork as well - classic. They also do crispy pork intestines, though I do think you'll find better intestines elsewhere. Super Bowl's one of many Chinatown restaurants that leave you wondering about how long they're going to be around for. These are the institutions that keep you coming in every time you walk past, "just because". And if there's one thing that will always be on my table here, it's the congee!

Service was great even when busy. Was delicious - would highly recommend the congee with youtiao, XO pipis, salt and pepper calamari, Szechuan chicken and Crispy combination noodles. Generous portions too! Will definitely be coming back again.

Whenever I'm in Sydney I make sure to come here. Look at the congee, it is silky smooth. Service is minimal, and the place is run down. Food is cheap and comes out fast. But remember, this restaurant has been in business for years and they have loyal customers like me. I don't care about the service, or the decor. You come to a restaurant like this for food, not for the experience or the atmosphere. And the food is excellent.

Weird name, fantastic food. Ordered the sweet and sour pork and it was done so well. Each piece was super crunchy and the vegetables were crispy. Went back two times during my stay in Sydney. Strongly recommend for authentic

A true Sydney institution. The service here is not going to be for everyone; there is a dragon lady who demands to see your vaccination passport upon arrival, the way she talks may seem aggressive to some, but that’s just the Hong Kong style and she means no harm.

The congee here I believe is one of their best dishes. Always get it with the fried donut. The hor fun noodles are also worth a try, and all dishes are nice big portions.

This is my first time eating here. I’ve ordered 3 menus (congee with pig intestines, oyster omelette & sweet and sour pork) and non of them failed. I even bring the prawn salted egg duck for take away and turn out it’s gewd as well! I’ll be back for sure.

Inexpensive and very good food. I usually have the rice or noodles because it's my go-to place when I travel to Sydney alone. The beef offal noodle soup, beef brisket noodle soup, wan tan noodles are safe bets. Their dishes are all very good too and I've tried most of the things on the menu whenever I travel with others.

One of the best Sampan congee ever. The rice congee itself is fragrant that is topped with various toppings such as crunchy wonton skins, peanuts, stomach, mince meat, etc. The stir egg noodles with roast duck is also good with in terms of portion size and goes well with the plum sauce provided on the side. The service is quick and efficient and they don’t charge extra for credit cards payment which is better than other places. Highly recommend when you’re in the cbd.

Perfect definition of cheap and cheerful - can never go wrong at Super Bowl! Open until late (2 am, if I’m not mistaken) and deeeelicious Chinese food.

I may be biased but this has been my go-to HK style supper restaurant for over 20 years. Pipis , stir-fry beef rice noodle and congee with fried donut is my staple. Don't come here for a first date, not that kind of place! I regularly visit with friends over the years. Please stay open for many more decades

My favourite late-night dinner place. Must orders are the pippies in XO sauce, the fried dough stick, scallop congee, roast duck, and special fried rice.

Very authentic Cantonese food. BBQ pork is my partner's favorite. Tofu with stuffed meat is the best in town.
