Highland Getaway, Tasmania

We did the highland cow and alpaca tour today and the level of effort Julie has put into this place is phenomenal and the animals provided such a beautiful experience for the both of us. Everything was run so smoothly and Julie’s accumulated knowledge of farming and caring for her animals offered wonderful insight into what makes these stunning creatures tick. It’s absolutely made our trip down here and what we’ve seen of the accomodation on offer says that you’d be crazy not to stay here as well to get some more time brushing these beauties. We visited the farm yesterday and had a unforgettable experience with the highland cows. Julie the owner is amazing. The cows were gorgeous and loved to be brushed. Julie took photos while we were brushing the cows which I really appreciated. Julie also has prints for sale and I couldn't resist buying a few.I highly recommend a visit.

We enjoyed feeding the calves, the alpacas, and patting the herd of pregnant cows. We even got to help move the steers, a healthy 1000kg each, into another field.

We cannot recommend this place highly enough and can't wait to come back!!

Truly an amazing place that everyone needs to visit! Julie (and her parents!) has turned a group of grassy green paddocks into a place that is like no other experience in Tasmanian and shows that with determination, passion and drive that you can achieve your dreams no matter what life throws in your path! The love she has for the Highland Cows she cares for can be seen just from listening to her talk about them but then you get a tour around to pat, brush and play with these adorable gentle giants. The Spa suite is sensational, never thought we would love sitting in a 38deg hot tub at 10pm at night while being 2deg outside haha! An experience like no other, thank you so much for looking after us on our stay

WOW, what a fantastic weekend away at Highland Getaway heaven. The host Family Val, Dereck and Julie were such a delight to chat with and loved talking about their farm and all the animals. The history of how this all came about is a story of perseverance and dedication and true family love. We did the farm tour and had an amazing up close encounter with the lovable highland cows and Alpacas. We could not get enough of these majestic and friendly animals and had more walks on the farm just to see them again. We stayed in the Spa Suite and had an enjoyable time soaking in the hot tub outside at night. We had the best sourdough bread i had ever tasted and other great options for breakfast. We used the BBQ to cook our dinner and had the best time. We highly reccomend this farmstay or just come on down for the tour. Thanks so much guys

Our family of two adults and three teen boys LOVED the farm tour! Brushing and patting the Highland cows, and feeding the alpacas and chickens whilst chatting to Julie was brilliant. She is so passionate about her animals! Four of the cows were pregnant and ready to give birth any day, and one of the mum’s had a nine day-old calf who ran playfully alongside us while we were brushing mum. So cute 😍 A highlight of our Tassie trip.

Did a farm tour at Highland Getaway, Julie and her team were amazing and the experience was incredible. Such a beautiful view, coupled with the very personal experience of brushing the Highland cattle and feeding the Alpacas. Would recommend to anyone visiting Hobart with access to a car 🐮

We stayed with Julie for a long weekend and couldn’t have had a better time. The property was perfect, so well and thoughtfully appointed. Her cows are so lovely and meeting them was a highlight of the trip. Would recommend to anyone spending time in the Huon Valley.

This is a must do. Even if you don’t stay you have to do the farm tour and brush the highland cows. 400-600kg puppies. They love being brushed. Julie’s story is inspirational and the farm is a credit to her ingenuity, tenaciousness, and determination. Must see when in Huon valley

An experience we won’t forget! This really is a must do if your in Tassie. We just loved our stay in the spa suite from meeting and talking with Julie, Derek and Val upon our check in. Waking up to the most amazing view and spending the chilly afternoons in the hot spa. Julie has created such an amazing experience all round even if you can’t stay, a farm tour is a must being around and brushing these beautiful highland cows is a real joy and appreciating the back story behind the hard work that has gone into its

Fantastic morning spent touring Highland Gateway and their amazing animals and scenic property. I enjoyed the drive around the property and hearing about how it is being maintained and the journey to create this special place as much as brushing the cows. I toured with my 3 year old daughter who fortunately was well behaved for the duration. Although this is a great experience for children it will make the entire experience better for everyone if you ensure you have proper adult supervision. You will be on an extensive
venture across the property amongst the cows in a variety of paddocks. Even though these lovely cows move slowly their horns are large and their body weight and tails with even the gentlest move carry some force. Absolutely great experience and highly recommend to anyone with a spare few hours visiting Hobart, Tasmania.

I took my mum to Highland Getaway for a simple farm tour as a little day activity/something really fun to do locally. Julie (owner) has a lot of educational knowledge about her animals, not only do you get to encounter with the animals but you also get to learn about her story and how it all started. She incorporates knowledge with the encounters and is very soft spoken and patient. The animals are the most gorgeous things ever. The farm tour includes seeing the land, getting up close with Highland cattle including brushing & petting them, lots of opportunities for photos, feeding alpacas and the little chickens/ roosters. Plus some light refreshments afterwards. Super fun day & highly recommend!

This is one of the best experiences you can ever have. The highland cows are simply gorgeous. The accommodation top notch with everything you need at your finger tips and hospitality was wonderful.

We plan to make this our annual getaway and would highly recommend to anyone that loves tranquillity, nature and can appreciate the comforts that this experience provides

My partner and I did the farm tour and it was such a great experience. Absolutely loved learning about Julie’s story and getting amongst her beautiful Highland Cattle! They are such amazing creatures, and getting to pat and brush them was such a unique and enjoyable experience. I highly recommend this tour!

Julie the owner is one incredible woman. What she has created and allowed tourists like us to enjoy is nothing short of amazing. Worth the $85 plus alot more. The farm is so impressive and the highland cows are cutier and more charismatic than you could have ever imagined. To be able to cuddle, pat, brush and photograph highland cows for almost 2hrs was the best. Highlight of our 2wk trip to tazzy. Definately will do again next time and will even stay at the farm, the accommodation looks so tranquil. Thank you Julie and all the cows and calf's. Ginger is still my fav 😍❤

Absolutely amazing experience from start to finish. Wish we could have stayed longer ! The property is unreal and so well maintained, it’s so impressive to see how much hard work Julie has put into this place. Her work ethic is truely impressive.

Joined Julie for a farm tour this morning along with family and another couple.
Lovely welcome with some background on how the farm has evolved as well as safety for ourselves and taking the cues from the cows before loading into the ATV to go and visit the different paddocks. Julie is very forthcoming about her experience as she's learnt along the way.
