Portee Homestead

Historic home on a side channel of the river. Built 1873 and restored in 1995. It's a massive old home with a large number of rooms all with their own bathrooms. Large commercial kitchen on gas and huge dining area. We had a party of 10. Bedding, pillows, towels provided. Air-conditioning and heating. Bring your own food. TV with access to catch up tv but no regular channels. No Wi-Fi and no mobile reception unless you go back up the hiil. The lawns have suffered because of the flooding but these will come good. Canoes provided. Take your fishing rod if interested. The host came and explained the working of the kitchen and air-conditioning. Very friendly. It was all extraordinarily clean. I hope to return.

This gem is hidden just off the Sturt Highway and nestled next to a creek off the Murray River. A beautiful location and facilities were magnificent. Each room having its own ensuite and some even having their own sitting rooms. We were a group of 14 and fitted perfectly. It was winter but this place had a fab fireplace in the dining room and all the bedrooms had heating and electric blankets. We self-catered and the kitchen was a great place to work in with pots, pans, and all the utensils you could possibly need. We were pleasantly surprised with the coffee machine and a comprehensive supply of teas. The grounds were well kept with flowers, shrubs and trees. Everyone enjoyed the dog "Max" that came to visit on Sunday. Altogether a great place to take a group and the owners were pleasant and easy to deal with. Loved it!

We held a retreat with our team from work at Portee Station. The homestead was a delight, with lovely character bedrooms and ensuites. The setting is wonderful - quiet and restful, with a lovely soft green lawn stretching down to the river, and surrounded by huge old gumtrees. The kitchen is well-equipped, and the dining and lounge area suited our group of 12 perfectly.

Today is our 15th wedding anniversary and our kids were asking us about our honeymoon and I was fondly telling them about our stay at Portee way back in 2004. We had a wonderful time which we'll never forget and hope to revisit again some day (we live overseas at present). We especially appreciated you accommodating our dog in your kernel which was an unusual request for honeymooners!

Thanks Paul and Kim our family had an amazing . Place had everthing. We would highly recommend great place for family holidays. Lovely friendly dog too who came to play each day. Neither him or my dog worried about each other.

Beautiful place, great sized bedrooms with its own bathroom and great dining tables and a great kitchen. Needs a bit of mantance with roof and entrance to the site drive way very rough.
It is roughing it. Water is not drinkable that you shower in. Smells like creek water. Take your own fresh water to drink take lots of it, Told to limit water usage. It's a shallow creek where you can't swim in only good for canoeing and under sized yabbies not good for fishing If you want to swim it's a 20 minute drive to the Murray River, there is a rain water tap in the kitchen. The kitchen is great big rooms with bathrooms The dining area is big. There is a friendly dog. The beds are not good for people that have back issues.
