Shalimar Indian Restaurant

The best Indian food I believe I’ve ever had here. It has been open since the 1980’s. My family has enjoyed eating at this wonderful restaurant my whole life. Highly recommend trying it out.

Had the need for some dinner last night and was in the mood for some Indian - Had not been to Shalimar for many years - back in the days when it was heavily curtained and probably under different ownership.
The samosas were beautiful - pastry was just right -not too thick and not "gluggy" . The two sauces were tasty and highly complementary
Raita - huge serving and very very good - perfect combination of ingredients and tasted just right.
The lamb Korma - great flavours - mild was just the right level to complement the tender and high quality lamb. The ONLY disappointment was the quantity of lamb in the dish - for the price, I would have liked a bit more meat included with the very copious amounts of sauce. (I suggest it may have been an oversight - I can not believe it would be a policy to deliberately provide a reduced serving of meat - when everything else was just so exceptional.)
The saffron rice was amazing - just cooked perfectly - no hard bits - just the right consistency.
Best Indian I have had for a long, long time.

We are new to the area and popped in on the off chance as we were passing. Seriously impressed by the food and the warm atmosphere and service. We were advised dishes that could be suited to dietary requirements and they were delicious. The restaurant has really calm and cosy vibes and I can't wait to try again.

Without a doubt I'll be returning here in the near future. Top-notch Indian food, very attentive and helpful staff with a friendly and conversational approach that seems to be lost these days in the restaurant industry.

The waiters knew the food and menu inside out and were obviously very knowledgeable about their dishes. Also the recommendation they offered to me after listening about what sort of thing I go for was spot-on.

You cannot go wrong with this place. Melbourne's longest-running curry house - and you can see why.

My partner and I had dinner. I chose the goat curry in medium and my partner had lamb korma in mild. Originally the first indian restaurant in Melbourne. Food is fresh and cooked with love. We really loved the experience of being able to interact with the chef and it created a fun atmosphere. This restaurant is a gem. Great for parties. The prices are very reasonable. Delighted.

A beautiful family owned restaurant with a wonderful ambiance. Such friendly hosts who showed my friends and I their history of how they came to own it in 1981.. oh and the butter chicken was amazing!
I will definitely be going back, so I would absolutely recommend it

Excellent service and impressive Indian food!
I have been to this wonderful restaurant twice recently and have had great food on both occasions , I asked the charming manager for his recommendation and the chicken was cooked perfectly with a well balanced heat in the curry sauce.
If you're an expat then they will make the curry even hotter if you crave some heat.
We also had a 6 month old guide dog puppy with us and they made him feel safe and very welcome.

Been going here since I was a kid. I am now a dad!
It’s that old ! However, ordered a meal and was missing an item. Something we wanted for a fulfilling meal, if that makes sense. Rang the restaurant. The manager did the investigation. Confirmed it didn’t get delivered. Then it got dropped off. Lovely work. This is why I will go again. Could have been a different story. Also, this is why they have lasted. Food is just great. You can not compare if u know Indian food!! Keep it up guys!!

Fantastic indian restaurant. The staff were very welcoming and the experience was very good. The atmosphere of the whole restaurant was very relaxed and the interior was clean and charming.

The food was also superb. Though I went with a group of friends for a relaxed night out, I would definitely bring others along in the future. Highly recommended.

Lucky enough to stumble upon Shalimar while walking by, my partner and I had a fantastic experience. The vegetarian banquet was great value for money and incredibly fresh and delicious. Definitely exceeded our expectations and will be going back! The lentil Dahl is a must-have.

Thoroughly enjoyed their banquet and the selection range and tastes. Well.looked after as we were a large group of 18 and still kept our water glasses and wine topped up and food coming at the right times and not rushed or not too slow. Highly recommend it 👍😁

The restaurant had a pleasant ambience. The menu offers a large selection of choices, all of which are incredibly fresh/authentic and just delicious. The staff were so lovely, very attentive. Will definitely be visiting again & recommending to others.

I’ve been coming to this amazing establishment for almost 5 years & I’m impressed every time. The staff are super friendly & always go above and beyond. All the dishes I’ve had are full of flavour & so delicious. Very happy to know they grow their own curry leaves & fresh chilies & various other herbs that they use in their dishes. Burra Kebab, Tandoori Cauliflower & Murgh Mumtaz are a must. Looking forward to my next dinner here. Highly recommend.

Went there on a Thursday evening. Wasn't too busy. The ambience was elegant and inviting. Gagan attended us and was a very graceful host in recommending the chefs specials. We enjoyed the palak chicken and the burra kebabs. These guys serve the kind of food that doesn't make you feel heavy afterwards. Something which is almost accepted as common in most Indian restaurants in Australia. The food here is light on the tummy and excellent for the taste buds. Highly recommended to all. Keep it up guys.

An absolutely fabulous restaurant that always goes the extra mile. Gagan and his family are generous and they know how to cook exceptionally well. Would recommend wholeheartedly. Ps. their roti are ace and they actually make their curries spicy, if you ask for Indian style!

The food here is authentic and excellent, although I have only tried the vegetarian dishes. Shalimar has a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere due to the attentive but not overbearing service. Enthusiastically recommended!

Amazing service, delicious food

Came for dinner on Friday night for my Grandmother's birthday and the service was excellent, really made her night with a free drink and ice cream with candle. Food was also great, we will be back
