Yuraygir coastal walk

Just did the very start near Angourie lookout. Nice and shady. Easy track for my elderly (late 80s) father in law.

Fantastic coastal nature

My son asked me to take up the challenge in completing this walk. In the end I was glad I’d done a bit of training beforehand. The first leg from angourie to brooms head was very enjoyable with Shelly campground making a pretty lunchtime rest stop. The lovely manager at brooms bowling club made us most welcome and the meal there was great value. Day two was a little more challenging. Crossing sandon river by boat was easier than the planned swim. Track markings get non existent leaving sandon so back tracking happens often I expect. Illaroo campground at Minnie water made a welcome break at the days end. Fresh water is now available here. Minnie shop is a great place for breaky and great coffee. The walk to Minnie back beach through the heath land is delightfull. Arriving at a long set of steps at Wilson’s headland was not delightfull. The stretch of beach from here to Wooli seemed to go on forever. The staff at Wooli bowling club looked after our thirst most admirably. A boat ride across the river saw us stumble upon the perfect camp for night three. Fire beers and the sound of rain on the roof , magic. The first few kms from here are very difficult. Sturdy foot ware is essential here. Soon the lovely pebbly beach appears and a wade through the creek sees you onto the final stretch of beach to red rock and the swim across corindi creek for a feed of fish and chips for lunch and a well earned rest.
