This place is a 10/10! The chicken bahn mi was unreal and the portion sizes were big. I got the Vietnamese iced coffee as well and it was delicious! Definitely will come here again, awesome little hidden away spot close to south Eveleigh. The man behind the counter was super sweet and friendly as well!

Ok guys so I’m a Banh Mi Boi from way back. Back when the only notable Banh Mi shop was Hong Ha Bakery in Mascot and probably a handful in Cabra.

Anyhow, being back in Sydney I’m pleased to see a lot of new Banh Mi Bangas opened up and always keen to try them all out.

Lit Canteen 🔥 has been reviewed but hey I’m giving my version of appreciation.

Firstly the owner is a cool Viet dude who was preparing brisket cheeks whilst we chatted on Banh Mi. He makes his own sauces including a ripper chilli paste. Their Mayo, Fish Sauce and Hoisin Sauce are self-made and taste just like that…fresh and uniquely tasty. Oh and they also do their own pate!

There is a lot to choose from including, classic cold pork cuts, crackling roast pork, bbq pork, beef brisket and fried chicken lemongrass chick and and brine chicken, with vegan options too. The shop does also do vermicellis, Vietnamese rice paper rolls and pho in the winter. There is a lot to choose from honestly and at very reasonable prices.

I went with the beef brisket which was suggested by the lovely staff at the front counter. I rocked up at 1pm ish and had my roll in my hand literally moments later.

The roll was crispy, warm and super crunchy and edible (could fit my mouth around it easily) but I do have a big mouth! I’m giving it a solid 4.5/5. One of the best rolls I’ve had in a while.

The self pickled carrots and radish were on point, spring onion and beef was also a good helping. And had a good slow cooker taste to it very juicy. Actually had sauce dripping down but that’s kind of standard. The chilli paste was bang on and complimented the beef super well. 4.5/5 from me in the filling department.

I’d hundred percent go back to try the rest of the menu. Being in Alexandria/Redfern. I actually thought it was be more pricey but not at all. It’s a genuine banh mi joint and gets a final result of at least 9/10. Get onto it fellow Banh Mi-nions.

🔥🔥🔥

One of my favourite Vietnamese cafés in Sydney, serving authentic and yummy food. Trust me it's good and I'm a good Vietnamese cook myself. Lovely customer service too and it has 30min parking out front. I always find a space.... Worth a drive by and I live in north Sydney too!!! I will always drive here for my banh mi fix, always hits the spot. Well done

Perfect little spot for great Vietnamese feed. Bahn Mi, Bun warm salad, pho… you name it. Yumminess in a relaxed neighbourhood near South Eveleigh. Love it during work breaks

Food here is delicious. The patê in the pork roll is to die for and the pickled onions in the phở just elevates it above others.

Discovered Lit canteen during a lunch walk which is directly opposite Australian technology park on Mitchell road. It’s not in a prominent location so most people wouldn’t know it exists unless you live or work close by. What grabs your attention from far are they red and yellow colours Of the shop frontage, then the tables and chairs and people. First impressions: when you first walk you will find the food smells nice, second you can see the food being made and third the menu on the board is nice & big on the wall. The internal space is not big and can be tight to move around especially where the soft drink fridge is placed is not in a convenient location. Externally there’s a few tables that can sit a maximum of 8 ppl which will be enjoyable on a nice spring & autumn day. On the menu there’s a good variety from banh mi (bread rolls), paper rolls, vermicelli bowls, snacks and coffee. An extra $3 gets you a combo that includes a snack + coffee, soft drink or water. ‘Return of the crack’ banh mi is delicious and love the crunch of the pork crackle. Ca phe sua da (Vietnamese iced coffee) is nice and has a strong flavour 👍🏻. Verdict: Amazing street food, fast service and excellent pricing. Coffee is the best in Alexandria so far that I’ve tasted.

This cosy cafe offers friendly service and a nice range of Banh Mi.

Located only a few minutes from South Eveleigh. Eat in or take away.

Prices starting from $7 for the Classic Pork Anthem.

Add $3 to any Banh Mi or Bowl for the combo which includes a snack (chicken wing or spring roll or BBQ Grilled Pork pattie) and a drink (375ml can soft drink or 500ml bottle water or small coffee)

Bánh mì or banhmi is the Vietnamese word for bread. In Vietnamese cuisine, also known as Saigon bread (bánh mì Sài Gòn) it also refers to a type of baguette which is often split lengthwise and filled with various savory ingredients as a sandwich and served as a meal.

Choose from the Classic Pork Anthem, Side Chick, Return of the Quack, Pork like it’s Hot and Shroom Side

Recently expanded their hours to 8pm to serve dinner, I popped in after work for a quick pho to warm up. It was quick, serving size is decent and the broth was delicious. I like that the pho is a bit different from your traditional style with pickled not raw onions and some thicker (but smaller) cut slow cooked beef mixed in with the usual thin slices. It was so delicious I drank the whole soup!

It's a small restaurant with a few seating areas (both inside and out), set up for a quick bite.

I'm told the Bánh mì (pork roll) and the noodle salad is good as well. Definitely coming back again.

Food here is brilliant. The banh mi hits the spot every time and the sides (spring rolls etc) and Vietnamese coffee are great too. I like that the menu gets subtle updates or specials every now and again. The main guy is super friendly as well

Yea price wise it now sits in the middle of comparable places nearby (especially considering the rent in this area!) so I think the price is reasonable

Cute local place, enjoy chilling for a moment here

I live and work closeby to this lil neighbourhood gem and I can’t recommend it enough. It’s delicious, buzzing quick service and just a fantastic addition to the area. The guy behind the counter is such a pro - consistent smile on his face (probs because he knows his product is 🔥). I told him I was going to Vietnam and he took the time to talk me through some food things & recommended an app. After visiting Vietnam it’s only made me appreciate what this business makes even more.

I genuinely appreciate this business (now open for dinner too - YES!) and also whole heartedly recommend it to anyone considering it.

Great Bahn Mi! Return of the Crack is our pick, but any are really good. The quality of the produce is the standout, and you'll pay 20% more than the cheapest no-frills place but it's 100% worth every cent. Visit, make it your go-to.
David who owns and runs the place always has a smile and gives excellent service.

Excellent Bahn mi; there are a lot of good ones in the area (like Newtown Pork Roll) but I really do like Lit’s. Crunchy rolls, generous servings, good meats.

Pho is good too.

Service very friendly.

Another serious competitor in the top Banh Mi in Sydney. The difference is the bread. Crunchy exterior, soft interior, fresh and puffy. The fillings are fresh as they should be in a quality Banh mi. Had the Pork Crackling roll. Owner is friendly and passionate about offering quality.

I often pop in for lunch at Lit Canteen.
The guy that runs it is always friendly and quick.
Nothing is too much trouble

The pork rolls are the best !!! And I’ve tried a lot of places. The pate they use is soooo tasty, I’ve been told they make it on site and is a family recipe.
Give them a try!! Get in early as they are so popular things sell out .

Walking by and she was closing up. Still offered bahn mi. So great service off the bat. Now the roll, I ordered the classic. And it was perfect, a classic pork roll done well, perfect filling amount and absolutely delicious. The bread has the optimal crunch to chew ratio. Well done 👏👏👏

Loved the food, lovely little takeaway place with a couple eat-in options indoor and more seats outdoor. Good service and good food. Value for money as well.
